Chapter 224: The Secret of the Incense Meeting

~7 min read 1,352 words

It was half past seven in the evening.

Gu Su Cheng, who was running a seafood shop, closed the shop and pulled down the rolling shutter.

Then, holding a cigarette, he walked into the alley beside the shop.

After walking a short distance, going up a few steps and turning right leads to his home.

Already a middle-aged man of years old, Gu Su Cheng remained single.

He had once been married.

Within two years of marriage, his good‑looking wife secretly took up with a refined‑looking pale‑faced man.

Three days after he discovered them, the pale‑faced man and his wife drank too much alcohol and drove the car into the sea.

His wife never found out, even to her death, that her husband Gu Su Cheng was no ordinary seafood shop owner.

Thirty years ago, Gu Su Cheng had a well‑known nickname: Ghost‑Face Insect.

The number of people who died at his hand was no less than thirty.

These people either died accidentally or went missing; beneath a vegetable plot, several meters deep in the soil layer, ten corpses were buried.

As for the cases of these people's disappearances, it's possible the police files could no longer be found.

Back then, computers were not yet in widespread use.

Before the files on these cases could be entered into the computer, someone had already taken them away.

For Gu Su Cheng, whether the seafood shop's business was good or bad didn't matter; what mattered was having something to do.

His main income was still the money that his former boss gave him each month.

When he walked into the alley, Gu Su Cheng took out his phone and dialed a number.

A moment later, a sultry voice came from the phone: 'Hey~'

"It's me, come over tonight!"

Gu Su Cheng chuckled and said.

"Old timer, can you still do it?!"

"If you're not coming, I'll find someone else."

"I can't, I have business tonight and can't come; I'm really sorry!"

After hanging up, Gu Su Cheng was so angry he almost smashed his phone on the ground.

He felt a sense of humiliation.

He also felt the melancholy of a hero in his twilight years.

Returning home, Gu Su Cheng closed the door and then bolted it.

As he turned around, he jumped in surprise.

Because a man in black clothing, with a cloak covering his head and his face unseen, had suddenly appeared on the sofa.

"Who are you?!"

Gu Su Cheng, leaning against the door, moved his hand behind it, pierced a thin layer of white ash on the back of the door, and felt around inside.

The result was empty!

"Are you looking for this gun?"

The man in black raised his hand and pointed a left revolver at Gu Su Cheng.

Gu Su Cheng immediately raised his hands: "Brother, don't shoot—let's talk!"

"Come over and sit down!"

The man in black said.

Gu Su Cheng walked to the opposite side of the man in black and sat down across a coffee table.

The man in black placed the left revolver on the coffee table.

"Huh~"

Gu Su Cheng reached out, snatched the gun into his hand, and aimed it at the man in black.

Without thinking, he pulled the trigger.

"Click~"

It wasn't a gunshot, but the empty click of the gun's mechanism.

Turns out the gun had no bullets!

"At this age, your reflexes are still pretty good!"

The man in black flung back the cloak covering his head, removed his mask, and revealed a handsome face.

"Who are you?"

Gu Su Cheng exclaimed in surprise.

Lin Feng smiled and said: "You don't need to know who I am; you only need to know what I tell you to do, and then do it—your life will be spared."

As he spoke, Lin Feng pointed a silver‑white Colt pistol at Gu Su Cheng's head.

Lin Feng smiled and said: "Because I think your boss and his crew are going to hold an Incense Meeting, and there's more than a hundred percent chance they'll call on you—after all, you're the person they trust most."

"Holding an Incense Meeting—it hasn't been held for many years…"

Gu Su Cheng muttered.

"Then let's just sit here and wait! After nine o'clock tonight, if you still haven't received a call, I'll leave."

Having said that, Lin Feng glanced at the wall clock.

It was almost eight o'clock.

Lin Feng said nothing, and Gu Su Cheng also said nothing.

The room was silent; beside the shrine, the red lamp in front of the statue of Guan Yu flickered on and off.

A moment later, cold sweat appeared on Gu Sucheng's forehead.

It was still the first time he had been pointed at with a gun for so long.

Suddenly, he lifted his head to look behind Lin Feng, his face filled with shock.

Lin Feng, however, remained unmoved.

"Did you see a ghost?"

Lin Feng asked with a smile.

Gu Sucheng chuckled, "I'm seeing things, I'm seeing things!"

Lin Feng's lips curled, "Don't play tricks in front of me; be careful, if I get nervous I might pull the trigger and kill you."

Gu Sucheng raised his hand and wiped the sweat from his forehead.

"If you're thirsty, you can go get some water to drink."

Lin Feng pointed his gun at the water dispenser.

Gu Sucheng was about to get up when his pocket phone rang.

It was an unfamiliar phone number.

Lin Feng waved his hand.

Gu Sucheng immediately got up and walked to the corner of the living room.

After the call connected, a woman's voice came from the phone, "Is this Mr. Gu?"

"It's me!" Gu Sucheng said.

The woman said, "Tonight at 10 o'clock, go to xx District xx Street No. 14 to attend the incense meeting; any problems?"

Gu Sucheng was about to say 'no problem' twice to indicate there was a problem, when he suddenly realized Lin Feng had already come up behind him, with something hard pressing against the back of his head.

No need to guess; it was obviously the gun muzzle.

"No problem!"

Gu Sucheng said.

The woman immediately hung up.

"Not bad, being honest! Saying 'no problem' twice means you can't go. If you add something like 'I'll definitely go then,' it means you're being threatened."

After saying that, Lin Feng lowered his gun.

Gu Sucheng turned around, looking at Lin Feng with a shocked expression.

I never expected Lin Feng to understand their secret code so clearly.

Lin Feng sat down on the sofa, smiling as he asked, "Tell me, what's the deal with the incense meeting?"

"You, you don't know?"

Gu Sucheng then sat down opposite Lin Feng, asking somewhat nervously.

Lin Feng scratched his head, "I have some information, but I'm not clear on the specific details; tell me!"

Gu Sucheng said, "Thirty years ago, incense meetings were often held, usually in temples. But later… the time and place of the incense meetings kept changing."

You know nowadays there's high-tech stuff; the big shots don't want the incense meeting proceedings to be livestreamed by others.

The incense meeting is where the big shots from all of Xiangjiang gather to discuss major matters; we little brothers usually just go to help hold down the fort…

Gu Sucheng spoke for over ten minutes straight.

He didn't know whether Lin Feng had heard the location when it was reported over the phone earlier… probably not!

After all, the voice was very low.

"When, what time?"

Lin Feng pretended not to know, frowning as he asked.

"Ten o'clock tomorrow night."

Gu Sucheng replied cautiously.

Lin Feng smiled slightly and stood up.

Gu Sucheng chuckled.

Suddenly, he saw a shadow flash past before his eyes.

Immediately after, a sharp pain shot through his neck, making it impossible to breathe.

"Ugh~"

Gu Sucheng covered his neck with his hand, and large amounts of blood poured from his mouth, nose, and between his fingers.

"I hate being deceived the most……"

Lin Feng muttered, taking out a cigarette and lighting it.

Then he opened the door and walked out.
