Chapter 111: The Rainstorm is Coming

~7 min read 1,337 words

At 11:00 AM on April 24, 2016, Cuba, Guantanamo Bay Naval Base.

Above the sea level, a Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter was rapidly approaching the coast amidst a hurricane-like roar.

A few minutes later, the helicopter landed at McCalla Airfield, which should have been closed years ago.

Subsequently, a team of elite soldiers exuding an imposing and rugged aura stepped off the helicopter one after another, were picked up by two military Humvees, and drove toward the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base headquarters, 2.5 kilometers away from McCalla Airfield.

"The people you wanted are here..."

After hanging up the phone, the person in charge of Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Rear Admiral Utre Olster, said in a low voice to another office behind him with a serious expression.

Through the ajar door, one could clearly see a burly black man sitting in the office, leisurely tasting rum, a specialty of Cuba, "General, the CIA thanks you for your assistance..."

A few minutes later, following a burst of heavy footsteps, a burly, muscular, and mighty soldier walked to the door of Major General Utre Olster's office while smoking a cigar.

The Major General, who had been waiting at the door, hurriedly greeted him with a smile, "You look very energetic, Major Daqi!"

The burly soldier smoking the cigar reached out to shake his hand, his tone flat: "Long time no see, General!"

"Let's go inside and talk..."

The Major General tightened his grip on his hand and immediately signaled for him to follow him into the office to talk in detail.

After the two walked into the office, the Major General straightforwardly invited Major Daqi to his desk, spread out a map, pointed to an island on it, and said: "About 12 hours ago, we lost a plane here, carrying several American soldiers... The final signal shows that their location is roughly in this vicinity..."

Major Daqi lowered his head and leaned toward the map to take a closer look, his brows slightly furrowed: "Nublar Island? This should be within the territory of Costa Rica, right! Do these soldiers like to travel everywhere?"

During the Cold War, the United States operated thousands of military bases around the world, but with the recent anti-American waves in various countries, in the vicinity of Central America, apart from this Guantanamo Base, which they still forcibly occupy and which should have belonged to Cuba, there are no other military bases left.

Therefore, his habitual political sensitivity made Major Daqi immediately realize that the General's words were not only vague but perhaps not entirely true.

The Major General was silent for a moment before replying: "They deviated from their course. I received notification from above that Nublar Island is now a private island, belonging to an American businessman—John Hammond!"

"Americans..."

Major Daqi immediately raised his head to look at him, "Since there is an island near the incident site and the owner is an American, why not notify the island directly to assist in the search and rescue? Why specifically call in us special forces?"

The Major General's eyes flickered, and he dared not meet his gaze.

Just at this moment, a voice came from the inner compartment of the office: "Because some idiot thinks you are the best, so he specifically requested you!"

Upon hearing this familiar provocative voice, Major Daqi immediately shifted his suspicious gaze away from the Major General, turned around with a straight face, looking like he wanted to pick a fight, but if one looked closely at his eyes, they would find them filled with joy and a smile.

The burly black man who walked out of the office was named Dilong, who had once been a close comrade-in-arms with Major Daqi. Ever since Dilong voluntarily joined the CIA, the two had not been in contact for a long time due to the special nature of his new job.

The reminiscing lasted only a short while before Major Daqi quickly asked the Major General again: "So, what is our mission this time?"

"Those soldiers are very important to us..."

The Major General had just answered when he was interrupted by Dilong, "Daqi, we received a weather forecast that a rainstorm will hit the waters near Nublar Island in eight hours. Because the incident happened suddenly, we don't know the situation on the island, and we don't know if there is enough fresh water and medicine there to ensure the safety of the missing personnel. Therefore, we need the best search and rescue team, which is why you were summoned here!"

Major Daqi looked at him, and although he still suspected that he was hiding something from him, out of trust for his old friend, he reluctantly nodded, "Continue..."

"This is a very simple mission, it can be done in a day! We need you and your team to head to the incident waters, find the missing personnel, and we can be back before the rainstorm hits..."

"'We'—what does that mean?" Major Daqi keenly captured the meaning in his words.

Dilong looked at him with a smile, "I'm going with you!"

These words undoubtedly deepened Major Daqi's suspicion about the true purpose of this mission. He looked at his somewhat unfamiliar old friend Dilong, then looked squarely at the Major General: "General, you know my team always operates independently!"

The Major General looked at Dilong before saying: "This is a requirement from above, Major. When necessary, Dilong will take over this operation!"

The weight of this sentence undoubtedly made Major Daqi's heart sink.

He smoked his cigar in silence, inhaling and exhaling puff after puff, until after a long silence, he slowly nodded, then saluted the Major General, "General, I will go notify the team to set off now!"

After saying this, he didn't even greet his old friend Dilong again, turned around, and was about to leave the office to notify the team members to prepare for departure.

Although Dilong looked awkward, he was familiar with his temperament, so he shook his head bitterly at the Major General and chased after him.

"Hey, Daqi. Don't be angry, I was forced to have to go with you..."

The CIA's reputation among American soldiers is not good, mainly because during the Cold War, the CIA planned too many coups, invasions, and wars around the world, and the ones who always cleaned up the mess for them were the American soldiers and American taxpayers.

Therefore, few people like the CIA, especially when an official from the CIA has to go on a mission with them.

Major Daqi kept a cold face and said nothing, but he did stop not far outside the General's office and started smoking his cigar.

Seeing that there was a chance, Dilong hurriedly stepped forward and softened his tone, whispering: "There is a CIA agent on the list of missing persons, and the higher-ups suspect they may have obtained some important intelligence, which is why they sent me here. Don't worry, unless it's absolutely necessary, I will never interfere with your team's operations!"

Seeing that he had softened his stance and given a promise, Major Daqi finally took the cigar from his mouth and lightly exhaled a huge smoke ring, "Nothing else you're hiding from me?"

Dilong shook his head, "I've said everything I can say. You know, the CIA has rules!"

"Let's go!"

Major Daqi looked at him, not entirely believing his explanation, but he didn't delay any further and took the lead to head toward his team members.

A gust of sea breeze carrying water vapor blew out and hit Dilong's face, and even his eyelashes condensed into water droplets.

He followed behind Major Daqi, occasionally looking up at the endless clear sky, and shook his head inadvertently.

With such a clear sky, how many people could imagine that on the East Pacific Ocean across the Caribbean Sea, a rainstorm was about to strike soon?!
