Chapter 117: Monster Attack

~8 min read 1,449 words

"Something's happening..."

Following a gesture from the most burly man in front of Sun Cheng, the tall, sturdy black soldier blocking his path immediately nodded. He first shot Sun Cheng a sideways glance, then immediately shielded him behind his own body and raised his rifle to stand guard.

Sun Cheng noticed that although he had exposed his back to him, two other soldiers had simultaneously crouched to his left and right. While they were also guarding with rifles raised, their muzzles only needed to be raised slightly to gun him down.

This level of alertness and attitude undoubtedly verified his previous thought once again: this group of people was by no means any ordinary poachers; they were very likely active-duty soldiers or even special forces.

Clearly, the other party did not trust him.

Seeing that the other party was exceptionally well-equipped, with both light and heavy weapons, they were even sufficient to fight a small-scale assault on a stronghold.

Sun Cheng was happy to hide to the side, no longer making a sound or resisting, quietly watching them act.

After the roar of the beast rang out, the group of people quickly crouched down and stood guard.

It was just that after about three to five minutes, no other sounds came, and they couldn't help but cast their gazes in unison toward the most burly man in the team.

"Boss, it might be a snowy owl..."

The first to speak was the thin, bespectacled white soldier from just a moment ago. He impatiently nudged the military cap on his head with his muzzle. The storm on the island was extremely heavy; even though they were hiding under the trees, rainwater was constantly pouring down on them, which was very uncomfortable.

The snowy owl is a large owl widely distributed in North America with a strange and peculiar call. If it didn't look relatively pleasing, its social acceptance probably wouldn't be much better than a crow's.

The burly man suspected to be the Captain thought for a moment before whispering orders to the two young soldiers beside him: "Luobi, Aifei, go to the front and take a look. Bili, Bin, pay attention to covering them..."

"Yes, Major..."

Several soldiers received the order, cautiously walked out from under the tree canopy, and slowly moved toward the direction where the sound had come from while standing guard.

The dust curtain wrapped around Sun Cheng had already been soaked through by the water, feeling wet and very uncomfortable. He had just moved his body when he suddenly felt his back being pressed against by something hard.

"Don't move..."

Subsequently, a cold, threatening voice came from behind him.

Sun Cheng turned his head to look, and sure enough, it was one of the soldiers crouching beside him to stand guard who had pressed a gun against him.

He protested to the soldier with a very dissatisfied expression: "Buddy, it's one thing for you to illegally trespass on a private island, but now you want to restrict my movements? Surely you can't even forbid me from wringing the rainwater out of my clothes? Also, I've warned you, you need to leave here immediately. Damn it, what is Hammond thinking, actually resurrecting dinosaurs!"

Sun Cheng deliberately made his protest loud, so as soon as he opened his mouth, all the dissatisfied gazes in the entire team were focused on him.

However, he had also learned to be smart, continuing to feign an inadvertent demeanor, revealing information about the island to them bit by bit in exchange for the attention of these soldiers of unknown identity, and attempting to erase their distrust and hostility toward him.

The burly soldier called Major indeed looked over with a sullen face. His cold gaze lingered on Sun Cheng for a moment before he shook his head slightly at the soldier holding the gun against him, "Halun..."

"Alright, Major..."

The soldier Halun moved the muzzle away again to point at the ground, but looking at his vigilant eyes, it was clear that as long as Sun Cheng made any threatening move, the muzzle would point at him again.

The expression on Sun Cheng's face finally relaxed. He squeezed out some friendly smiles, nodded at the Major, and then took off the curtain draped over his body and wrung it out with force.

"You said there are dinosaurs on the island?"

The Major stared at his actions for a while, then scanned his body and surroundings for a moment. Not detecting where a weapon might be hidden, he withdrew his cold, piercing gaze and asked him.

"I've already warned you..." Sun Cheng said while wringing the curtain, looking up and meeting his eyes with some unease: "Hammond invited us to the island to talk business. His International Genetic Technologies wants financing, but damn it, this bastard never told us that his company had actually resurrected dinosaurs, and there are even carnivorous dinosaurs among them. Damn it, it's cursed..."

He cursed as he spoke, his tone urgent and fast, with the expression of someone who had been frightened.

"This madman, can you imagine? He didn't just resurrect velociraptors; he even resurrected prehistoric overlords like the Tyrannosaurus rex. Damn it, does he think that kind of monster can be kept in a zoo? That thing eats an adult Angus cow a day..."

After finishing, seeing that these people were still half-believing his words, Sun Cheng simply picked up the Camera hanging in front of his chest, fiddled with it for a moment, brought up the photos he had taken earlier using Frenzy, and handed the camera over, signaling him to look.

The Major indeed took it and looked, his brows furrowing involuntarily. After seeing only the first photo, he looked up at Sun Cheng with an expression of utter disbelief.

"These are photos I took this afternoon. I was originally planning to take them back to the company to convince the board of directors..."

Seeing that the other soldiers were also craning their necks to look at the camera out of curiosity, Sun Cheng stepped forward to show the Major how to flip through the other photos. Realizing that no one was coming to stop him this time, he finally felt relieved.

"Safe for now..." Sun Cheng let out a long sigh of relief in his heart.

However, he had set his mind at ease.

But the close-up photos of dinosaurs kept in the camera gave the Major and his men a real fright.

"My God, what kind of monster is this?!"

"My heavens, this guy must weigh a hundred tons..."

"What kind of hellish place is this? Damn it, are there really nothing but these monsters on the island?"

The photos stored inside the camera that Frenzy had turned into clearly terrified this team of soldiers. Exclamations were constant; at first, everyone was careful to lower their voices, but later, no one cared about that anymore. Even the most burly Major, who looked taciturn, couldn't help but curse a few times, which showed the impact the dinosaurs had on them.

There were only a little over a hundred photos taken in the camera, so they finished looking through them very quickly.

After finishing, the Major cursed with a look of bad luck, "Damn it!"

He immediately shot a sideways glance at another black soldier with a handlebar mustache who had squeezed to his side at some point and was staring fixedly at the camera in his hand, and snorted coldly, "Your plane really crashed in quite the place..."

The black soldier's facial muscles twitched slightly upon hearing this. Sun Cheng followed the sound and looked over curiously, clearly seeing his Adam's apple moving incessantly, and his eyes were also somewhat shifty and flickering, but he said nothing.

Seeing that everyone had finished looking and the goal of proving his identity had been achieved, Sun Cheng was thinking about asking the Major for his camera back.

Suddenly, a shrill warning cry came from not far away, "Aifei, watch out..."

The next moment, a burst of dense gunfire rang out!

The team, who had been somewhat lax in their vigilance due to the shock of those dinosaur photos, all changed their expressions. They followed the sound to where the gunfire had erupted. Amidst the muzzle flashes of the bullets, the figures of several long-necked beasts about two or three meters tall loomed in the darkness.

PS:

For the past two days after work, I've been meeting friends for dinner, bragging, and playing games. My mindset has been adjusted back, and updates will resume tomorrow. I did a count; I owe 43 chapters, and I'll strive to pay them off before the end of the month.
