Chapter 123: Ghost Hunter
A hideous humanoid monster suddenly appeared out of thin air from above the partition and fell down, slamming heavily onto Sun Cheng.
Stung by this pain, and with the disgusting, fishy stench of the monster rushing into his nose, he was given a real fright. Once he regained his senses, his first reaction was to push it away with all his might, then, fueled by the ferocity in his chest, he struggled to jump up and claw at its throat!
"Master, it is already dead!"
Revenge had been keeping watch in mid-air for a while, and only after confirming that this humanoid monster no longer showed any signs of life did it float before him to remind him.
"Dead?" Sun Cheng, his face still pale, continued to stare neurotically at the tall humanoid monster he was tightly strangling.
"My blowdart pierced directly into its body; the potent toxin will cause its organs to fail and lead to death!"
Only then did he recall that the blowdart inside Revenge had been crafted by himself while in the other world. Its surface was plated with a highly toxic metal capable of causing an elephant's organs to fail and kill it within seconds—extremely vicious. However, this thing was very troublesome to make, and even Atlas had only made a dozen or so while they were in the other world.
Upon realizing this, Sun Cheng's face flushed slightly.
Fortunately, there were no outsiders here, and he also realized at this moment that his own conduct and mindset were not as steady as he had imagined.
Although Revenge did not have much self-awareness, Sun Cheng often did not treat it as an outsider, yet being seen in such a flustered state still made him feel embarrassed.
He immediately composed himself and looked at the humanoid monster that was thoroughly dead. Beyond the expression of being disgusted by the fishy stench all over its body, he felt more curiosity. "What on earth is this thing? An alien?"
Knowing it was dead, Sun Cheng's courage suddenly grew, and he reached out to rummage through its body.
This was a humanoid monster with an extremely hideous appearance; it looked to be no less than 2.2 or 2.3 meters tall, and its burly frame likely weighed no less than 200 jin.
Its body was draped in a layer of strange armor that could not fully protect it. Just seeing that it could use 'Optical Camouflage' was enough to know this guy was definitely not simple and likely came from a civilization with technology more advanced than Earth's.
The possibility of such a civilization hiding on Earth was extremely small; the possibility of it coming from outside the star system was, conversely, much higher.
However, after roughly looking it over for a while, Sun Cheng's confusion began to grow.
"Strange... truly strange..."
There were too many unreasonable things about this humanoid monster!
It possessed Optical Camouflage equipment, yet the armor on its body appeared to have no defensive power; let alone full-body armor, it didn't even count as half-body armor.
Sun Cheng noticed that only the left side of its chest had armor protection, while the right side was covered only by some strange, grid-like material. No wonder it couldn't defend against Revenge's blowdart.
Searching further, he was surprised to find that he couldn't find a single advanced weapon on the humanoid monster that matched its status.
Sun Cheng rummaged from its waist an unknown weapon that looked very much like a whip. It appeared to be made of dozens of strands of an unknown alloy that was soft in texture but possessed excellent toughness. The whip was triangular in shape, and the three edges were eerily sharp. Sun Cheng tested it on the curtain he was draped in, and it was easily sliced open!
There were several bulging areas on the monster's belt. After fumbling for a while, Sun Cheng finally found how to open them, but only managed to pull out four discs that were bulging in the middle and slightly flat around the edges. The discs had six holes on them, with a soft spot in the center that could be pressed. Because he didn't know what this thing was, he thought about it and decided not to press it.
On the back of the humanoid monster's armor were several external ports. One of the slots held a strange double-headed weapon; it looked only as long as a rolling pin, with sharp, prism-shaped spikes at both ends. If it were longer, it would look like a double-headed spear.
Besides this, another slot on the back of the armor held a strange, fine net covered densely with spiked balls. When Sun Cheng was fumbling around earlier, his palm accidentally touched a knot on the net and was immediately pricked by the spiked balls, leaving several bleeding holes. Although he didn't feel much pain from the accident, the incessantly bleeding wound still made him frown. He hurriedly tore off a corner of his shirt to wrap his palm.
After roughly checking the monster from top to bottom, Sun Cheng's heart was filled with confusion.
This guy, who could use Optical Camouflage, had not a single Energy Weapon or even a firearm on its body that matched its status; it was all cold weapons. This was truly too contrary to common sense!
"Master..."
While Sun Cheng was still frowning and pondering the unreasonableness of the creature, he heard Revenge, which had been floating quietly in front of him, suddenly speak. "It has a device on its body for monitoring vital signs and positioning. Another invisible unit that I have locked onto is currently rushing toward the Master's location!"
"What?"
Sun Cheng's expression changed slightly, and he hurriedly ordered: "It has a positioning system on it? Where?"
Revenge descended, extended a metal joint from within its body, and pointed to the humanoid monster's left wrist. "Here. Do you need me to shut down this electronic device?"
"Shut it down immediately!"
The advantage of Mechanical Life regarding electronic devices was once again clearly demonstrated. Revenge was clearly encountering this type of humanoid monster for the first time, yet after finding the port on the electronic device on its left wrist, it quickly used its joint to simulate an access port of the same specification and began to hack into the electronic device.
Sun Cheng watched Revenge with anticipation. Strange as this humanoid monster was, its Optical Camouflage equipment was very advanced for Earth civilization. If he could obtain it, the gains from this trip to Nublar Island would be too great, enough for him to digest for a long time.
The entire hacking process lasted for more than ten seconds before Sun Cheng heard the screen on the electronic device suddenly flash a set of strange characters and then shut down completely.
Afterward, Revenge retracted the metal joint it had inserted into the device, and its cold electronic voice sounded again: "Hacking complete. Hunter-type individual combat auxiliary equipment has been shut down!"
"Hunter-type individual combat auxiliary equipment?"
Sun Cheng widened his eyes, looked at the electronic device on the monster's left wrist that had been shut down, and hurriedly asked: "Revenge, did you completely crack this device? What exactly is this monster?"
"Master, I have successfully cracked this device. These creatures are called 'Hunters' and come from the Dinamuke Star System, about 3,883 light-years away from Earth. They are a barbaric species that lives by hunting and takes pride in hunting. Earth is one of their fixed hunting planets. Every once in a while, they arrange for some newly adult 'Hunters' to come to Earth to hold an adulthood ceremony..."
"An adulthood ceremony?"
"Yes, to hunt enough strong creatures within a specified time to demonstrate their martial prowess! The one I killed is one of the three lowest-level 'Ghost Hunters' sent to Earth in this batch."
Living by hunting, taking pride in hunting, and even holding murderous adulthood ceremonies.
In an instant, Sun Cheng gasped, suddenly realizing that he had encountered a very cruel and tyrannical alien species!
