Chapter 130: Where is the Spaceship
"Help..."
Doctor Saitele clearly heard the movement behind her as well, but she didn't dare to look back at all; she just kept screaming while running toward Sun Cheng's Humvee.
"Faster, go faster..."
Sun Cheng rolled down the window and roared at her, then immediately pulled out his M16, fumbled for a moment, aimed the muzzle at the space behind Doctor Saitele, and fired a few quick bursts after a brief aim.
"Pop... pop-pop..."
His intentions were good, attempting to use gunfire to stop the Velociraptor that was pouncing toward Saitele, but who knew that as soon as the shots rang out, Doctor Saitele's speed also dropped accordingly.
"Damn it..."
Sun Cheng saw that this wouldn't work; the performance of that Velociraptor truly filled him with both shock and fear. The opponent had clearly noticed during several exchanges that the M16's bullets could only cause it minor injuries, and it didn't even dodge or avoid them, its speed not decreasing in the slightest.
If this continued, Doctor Saitele would definitely be caught by it before reaching the Humvee.
After realizing this, he hurriedly put away his weapon, started the car, and drove toward her.
"Hiss..."
Animals chase movement and do not pursue stillness; even something as small as a pika will analyze the size difference between itself and another animal upon discovery to ensure whether it is safe to remain, let alone a Velociraptor.
Once the Humvee moved, the Velociraptor was clearly startled. Not only did its pace slow down, but Sun Cheng could even clearly see that after the creature stared intently at the car for a few moments, and then saw him sitting in the driver's seat, it raised its head, bared its teeth at him with a low growl, and its speed actually increased by a few notches as it charged over.
He hadn't expected this beast to be this clever. Sun Cheng's heart sank, and he hurriedly accelerated, driving the car to Doctor Saitele's side before stopping. "Quick... get in the car..."
After Doctor Saitele scrambled into the car, she slammed the door shut with a bang, her whole person sinking into the passenger seat as if she had lost her soul, her chest heaving incessantly.
"Bang!"
The car suddenly lurched, giving Saitele a fright. She hurriedly turned her head to look, only to discover that the Velociraptor was staring closely from outside the car door, which scared her into immediately raising her weapon again, aiming it at the tightly closed window.
"Hold on tight..."
Sun Cheng stepped on the gas, gripped the steering wheel tightly with both hands, and the Humvee shot out like an arrow released from a bow.
"Hiss..."
The Velociraptor was clearly unwilling to let the prey that had reached its mouth fly away just like that, and it followed behind the car, roaring as it charged.
Unfortunately, Sun Cheng kept his foot pressed hard on the accelerator, and he instantly boosted the car's speed to over eighty miles per hour. A speed of over one hundred kilometers per hour was not something a Velociraptor could catch up with. It only took a few dozen seconds to leave the Velociraptor far behind, and it could only hiss long and unresignedly; after they turned a corner, it was completely out of sight.
"Whew..."
"Whew..."
Inside the car, two sighs of relief sounded in unison.
Sun Cheng and Doctor Saitele were both stunned for a moment, then looked at each other and laughed together.
"Thank you..." Doctor Saitele said to him with a grateful expression, "I thought I was going to die just now..."
Sun Cheng smiled slightly, his hands gripping the steering wheel as he stared intently at the road ahead, but he slowly reduced the car's speed.
As for driving experience, he had only received his license last year, so it had been less than a year. However, Sun Cheng's family had an old sedan that he had driven a few times during winter and summer breaks, so although it was his first time touching a tough-guy muscle car like a Humvee, he wasn't intimidated.
"Where are we going next?" Sun Cheng asked.
"This..."
Doctor Saitele suddenly didn't know how to answer, because she didn't know if her husband, Alan Grant, was still alive, nor could she be sure where he was on the island, so when asked by him, she was suddenly hesitant and at a loss.
Sun Cheng smiled subtly; this was exactly the effect he wanted. He then took the initiative to speak: "The island's security and defense system has malfunctioned, and nowhere is safe right now. How about this, let's go to the Gongdianchu first. Once there, we'll find a way to restore the island's security system, and then try to see if we can contact other survivors!"
To restore the security system, the Yanjiu Zhongxin was actually the first choice. However, Sun Cheng was not like others; he had 'Revenge' and 'Defend' with him, so he could connect to the island's system from anywhere. The reason he wanted to make a trip to the Gongdianchu was because he wanted to set a trap there—a trap that would definitely attract the 'Specter' temporarily.
Upon hearing this, Doctor Saitele considered it for a moment and agreed.
Clearly, she also knew how important it would be for the survivors on the island once the security and defense system was restored.
Thus, it was decided to head to the Gongdianchu. A few minutes later, the two drove to the Gongdianchu, which was only a few kilometers away from the Yanjiu Zhongxin.
The Gongdianchu on Nublar Island was located deep in a mountain forest, and a road had been built on the island leading straight there, so they didn't feel any bumps on the way.
Parking the car outside the gate of the Gongdianchu, Sun Cheng didn't rush to get out. He first cautiously observed the surroundings for a while before nodding slightly to Doctor Saitele, "Safe!"
After signaling for her to get out first, Sun Cheng reached under the driver's seat and felt for 'Defend'. Upon picking it up and looking, he saw an orange piece of Amber being tightly clamped by a short alloy branch extending from 'Defend'.
Having only looked down at it for a moment, he felt a surge of devouring desire constantly welling up in his heart. He hurriedly gathered his focus and tucked it into his pocket.
Doctor Saitele had seen this piece of Amber at Hammond's place, and Sun Cheng didn't want her to see it and cause unnecessary trouble.
"Pop..."
After opening the gate of the Gongdianchu, Sun Cheng in the lead and Doctor Saitele behind, the two each held a Flashlight and walked into the Gongdianchu.
Sun Cheng searched the wall for a while and soon found the power button. After pressing it, the interior of the Gongdianchu, which had previously only shown the lights of some equipment, suddenly lit up.
"Is anyone here?" Doctor Saitele shouted loudly.
After Sun Cheng locked the door from the inside, he temporarily put 'Defend' into his Tactical Backpack and began patrolling the Gongdianchu with his weapon raised.
The Gongdianchu was not very large. After circling it for a few minutes and confirming there was no danger inside, Sun Cheng put away his weapon and signaled, "Safe!"
Ignoring Saitele, he found an equipment station, stopped, and opened his computer. At the same time, he took out 'Defend' and the 'Hunter-type individual combat auxiliary equipment' he had obtained after killing that Specter.
"Sun, what are you doing?"
Doctor Saitele followed behind him and had also wandered around the Gongdianchu for a while. Not seeing any survivors here, she was somewhat disappointed. When she saw him take a laptop and another strange piece of equipment out of his bag to fiddle with, she couldn't help but ask curiously.
"I'm going to try to see if I can connect to the island's network and find a way to turn on the island's security system..."
After answering without raising his head, Sun Cheng immediately started the computer. Taking advantage of the fact that Doctor Saitele didn't understand Chinese, he directly opened a notepad and wrote commands in Traditional Chinese characters: "Defend, connect to this device, read all the data inside and save it, find the location of the spaceship hidden on the island by the Hunters, organize it and mark it in a document to answer me, and by the way, restart the island's security system..."
After the command was issued, a series of strange garbled characters suddenly appeared on the computer screen in front of him. They looked like the most remote primitive Egyptian script, or perhaps ancient Aztec, or even ancient Cambodian characters; in any case, there wasn't a single English letter.
The garbled text on the screen lasted for a full forty or fifty seconds before ending, and then a Word document popped up on its own.
