Chapter 155: Soundwave Mobilizes

~7 min read 1,321 words

The voice coming from the other end of the phone had clearly been modulated, making it impossible to tell if it was a man or a woman.

However, after the Core merely skimmed through the records, Sun Cheng quickly identified the other party from the serial code he had left in the special mobile phone they were using.

Nao Daisen, an employee of the Reconnaissance Office under the United States Department of Defense, one of the many spies bought off by the Ministry of State Security of the Russian Federation.

Because Sun Cheng had mastered this intelligence on them, and under his coercion and inducement, this insatiable fellow had fallen into Sun Cheng's palm; he was the most proactive of the hundreds of intelligence personnel Sun Cheng had developed within United States government agencies.

"NEST?"

The electronic voice Sun Cheng emitted had no emotional fluctuation, "My promise remains valid. As long as it is intelligence regarding NEST, I will pay you half the reward first. Once the intelligence is confirmed to be correct, the remainder will also be transferred to you within two days!"

"Remember what you said!"

The person on the other end of the phone couldn't help but breathe heavily with excitement, and Sun Cheng naturally understood why.

In order to figure out as soon as possible what the "NEST Project," a collaboration between the Autobot and the United States government, actually entailed, he had made the same promise to all the intelligence personnel he had developed who might have contact with this project: thirty million dollars, with the payment method of their choice!

With the strength of the dollar, it could be said that this reward was enough to make any intelligence officer take a risk.

Seeming to take a few deep breaths, Nao Daisen on the other end of the phone finally calmed the excitement in his heart and whispered to him: "The Pentagon approved the mobilization of a unit to Tucson, Arizona, this morning, and this afternoon the Arizona National Guard announced that it would hold a training exercise near Tucson. I spent a lot of effort to find out that the unit the Pentagon approved to be transferred to Tucson is codenamed 'NEST'."

Upon hearing this, Sun Cheng's eyes narrowed sharply.

Others might not know the situation in Tucson, but he knew better than anyone that Starscream's base was located in an abandoned mine on the outskirts of Tucson.

Strictly speaking, Sun Cheng didn't really know what the "NEST Project" was; he only knew it was a product of the collaboration between the Autobot and the United States government.

Now that he heard a unit codenamed "NEST" had been transferred to Tucson, his heart sank, knowing very well what was there. He secretly guessed that this "NEST Project" was likely, as he had feared, a comprehensive collaboration between the Autobot and the United States government targeting the Decepticon.

"Bad!"

In an instant, Sun Cheng felt his heart become incomparably heavy. After questioning Nao Daisen for a while longer and failing to obtain more intelligence from them, he promised to pay the reward according to the transaction method the other party requested as soon as possible. Sun Cheng immediately hung up the phone and spread his wings to fly into the sky once again.

However, after entering the United States, he did not rush back to the Base, but after a moment of hesitation, he flew toward Arizona.

Hearing is believing, but seeing is reality; Sun Cheng needed to personally verify the "NEST Project," because if it were truly as he thought, the possibility of his own Base No. 1 in Colorado being exposed was too high.

Flying at full speed, he soon approached the territory of Tucson.

Even before he had entered, Sun Cheng felt waves of unease.

In outer space, several United States military satellites were aimed at Tucson in unison, and reconnaissance waves scanned his chassis repeatedly. Had he not activated the Core's anti-reconnaissance function, he would likely have already been exposed under the high-altitude satellite scans.

What made Sun Cheng even more irritable was that as soon as he entered the airspace of Tucson, his Core had already captured dense ground-based anti-aircraft radar waves.

To avoid exposure, he had no choice but to find a corner that no one would notice to land quietly, and enter Tucson on foot.

While still dozens of miles away from Starscream's base, the ear-piercing roar and sounds of explosions were already incessant.

Sun Cheng's expression changed, and he hurriedly increased his speed. After finally approaching the source of the explosions a few minutes later, his face was ugly to the extreme.

"The base is finished..."

Looking toward the battlefield from afar, within a range of less than five kilometers, dozens of M1A2 Main Battle Tanks currently in service with the U. S. military were charging forward frantically. In the sky, dense Apaches were pouring ammunition onto the ground without reservation. Hundreds of fully armed U. S. soldiers, under the protection of the tanks and Apaches, were firing mercilessly alongside several tall and fierce Autobot at the four or five slightly smaller Decepticon who had been pressed to the foot of the mountain.

Screams could be heard from time to time amidst the explosions!

After the Core captured several dangerous signals, Sun Cheng hurriedly found a hidden place to hide. Soon, explosions began to ring out from the mountain in front.

His heart sank, as he had already recognized them as the active-duty bunker-busting missiles equipped by the U. S. military—MOP. The explosive power of this thing was enough to make Starscream's underground base collapse completely, and the U. S. military fired four of them at once. I am afraid that apart from a very few lucky ones, no more Decepticon would be able to survive.

"It's over!"

"It's over!"

Word count patch, still a few hundred words short, will fix it after typing it up in ten minutes.
