Chapter 183: The Land of Certain Death
Returning to the base located deep within the Nuclear Missile Silo, Sun Cheng could not feel any peace of mind; being suspicious by nature, he always felt he had overlooked something, which made the unease in his heart grow increasingly intense.
"What is going on? Where exactly is it wrong? Could it be that I have really been exposed?"
He waved his hand irritably, dismissing the few Decepticon Workers who had gathered around to fawn over him.
Sun Cheng paced back and forth incessantly within Laboratory One, the warning from the unknown making his mood grow increasingly restless.
"Satellite spectral scanning or ground radar detection waves, it is impossible for them to capture me while in flight state..."
Flying-type Decepticons can normally be captured by the U. S. military's satellites and radar equipment, but if they consume a bit more energy to activate their Core's anti-spectrum and electromagnetic scanning functions, it becomes very difficult for reconnaissance equipment on Earth to capture them.
Sun Cheng has always been cautious; whether going out to raid a base or transporting equipment to Brazil, he always activates his Core.
Therefore, unless someone could see him with the naked eye from twenty thousand meters above, his flight trajectory could not possibly be exposed!
No... that's not right...
After pacing irritably in the laboratory for a while, a flash of inspiration suddenly crossed Sun Cheng's mind; his expression changed drastically as he finally realized what direction he had been negligent in!
"Autobots..." He gritted his teeth viciously, "Damn it, it's the Autobots..."
Having finally thought of what he had overlooked, in an instant, Sun Cheng wished he could give himself a hard slap.
Having repeatedly inquired about the so-called 'NEST Initiative', and with his personal experience in Tucson last time, how could he not know what it meant?
The Autobots, those damned Mechanical Life forms, have completely gotten mixed up with the Americans; they have established a joint task force named NEST, with the goal of hunting down all Decepticons within the United States.
If the Decepticons deliberately shield themselves, it is indeed very difficult for Earth's detection methods to discover them.
But this does not mean that the Autobots cannot discover them as well!
On the contrary, as two Mechanical Life factions that have been hostile to each other for millions of years, the Autobots' understanding of the Decepticons far exceeds their own, and they likewise have plenty of means to let humans find them.
"Damn it..."
Having finally realized the severity of the problem, Sun Cheng immediately panicked and wanted to evacuate at once.
During the last Battle of Tucson, even though there were only a few small fry in Starscream's base, the scale of the NEST force deployed had truly given him a shock.
Although he did not see Optimus Prime, the Autobots had deployed at least five Advanced Warriors, including Ironhide and Ratchet; adding in that team of human armed forces, this combat power was more than enough to destroy a certain European country if unleashed, so Sun Cheng knew very well that even with Base No. 2 as his home field, it would be very difficult for him to withstand an incoming NEST attack.
"Must, immediately, evacuate at once!"
With this thought in his mind, Sun Cheng walked out of the laboratory in a hurry.
Just as he stepped out of the base, he suddenly saw a Decepticon Worker wandering around the base due to having nothing to do; he frowned slightly and then stopped in his tracks.
"Is it really okay to just run away like this?"
After this thought suddenly popped into his mind, Sun Cheng first gave himself an affirmative answer, but then he hesitated.
Yes, is it really okay to just run away like this?
If NEST could capture his tracks once, it meant there was a possibility of a second or third exposure.
Although he had decided long ago in his heart to abandon this Base No. 1 located in the heart of the United States, this time it was Base No. 1; when NEST strikes again next time, would he have to abandon Base No. 2 as well?
Moreover, in all fairness, although his strength is far inferior to Optimus Prime and the others, if he is determined to run, with his current speed, unless the Autobots' air unit—the Aerialbots—has also arrived on Earth, there really is no Autobot who can keep him here.
But will the Aerialbots come to Earth?
Don't joke; unless Optimus Prime and the others have completely given up on retaking Cybertron, it is impossible for the Aerialbots to be transferred to Earth.
Shockwave, who is stationed on the planet Cybertron and has been commanding the Decepticon Legion to encircle and suppress the Autobots, would be very happy to seize the opportunity of the Aerialbots, the main air force of the Autobots, being away to completely destroy the Autobot resistance on Cybertron's satellites.
"Right, as long as it isn't Silverbolt and the others, no Autobot can keep me... As for the Americans' anti-aircraft missiles, I can dodge them if I'm careful..."
In his heart, as if a pile of flames had suddenly been ignited, the more Sun Cheng thought about it, the more unwilling he felt; even though he had already decided to completely abandon Base No. 1, a new plan was quietly taking shape in his mind at this moment, and it was rapidly being perfected.
"Right here, right at Base No. 1, on American soil, let me have another fight with the Autobots. I indeed don't have many means to severely damage you Autobots, but I want to see if the American soldiers suffer heavy casualties again, whether this NEST force, and your cooperation between the Autobots and the Americans, can still continue..."
Clenching his fists tightly, Sun Cheng could not stop a cold sneer from appearing on his face.
Immediately, he summoned the idle Decepticon Worker and ordered: "Go, gather all the Workers; I have things to arrange!"
Returning to Laboratory One, he waved his arm, and several huge containers immediately appeared in the laboratory, which had already been emptied of equipment.
His gaze lingered for a moment on the several huge containers he had taken out from his Spherical Space, and a cold sneer immediately appeared on Sun Cheng's face.
"Anti-tank Mines, Anti-personnel Mines, all standard U. S. military ordnance... and the modified land-based Hellfire Missiles and the Automatic Sentry Machine Guns designed by Atlas... that should be enough to give you a headache..."
Upon receiving his order, that Worker quickly gathered the entire team of Decepticon Workers into Laboratory One.
"You few, come here... Go, immediately move all the Anti-tank Mines and Anti-personnel Mines inside out, and deploy them within a few kilometers around the base as soon as possible; pay attention to concealment."
Opening a container to reveal the crates of Anti-tank Mines and Anti-personnel Mines placed inside, Sun Cheng pointed to a few Workers and ordered them to carefully move the items out for deployment.
The remaining Workers were also assigned tasks by him: "These are Automatic Sentry Machine Guns; move them out and deploy them at the several entrances of the base..."
As for the Hellfire Missiles, he carried them outside the base himself, chose two hidden locations more than ten kilometers away from the base, installed the missiles that Atlas and the others had modified, and simultaneously connected the missile launch systems with his own Core.
After finishing all this, Sun Cheng patrolled for a while and still felt something was lacking.
After hesitating for a moment, he took out two more long, box-shaped items from his Spherical Space, gritted his teeth, chose two hidden spots to install them, and covered them with a thin layer of soil.
This time, he swore he would definitely teach the Autobots and the Americans a painful lesson.
