Chapter 207: Matrix of Leadership
Finally, the name of that Prime on the Moon is known; although the situation with Starscream remains unclear, it seems unlikely that his current circumstances are very good, even if he is not dead.
Countless thoughts flashed through his mind in an instant. Sensing that Sideways' gaze had never shifted from him, Sun Cheng felt a chill, yet he still braced himself and took the initiative to say, "Oh? Has that lord on the Moon finally awakened?"
Soundwave is in deep slumber, and Brawl's whereabouts are unknown. If Starscream has also met with misfortune, no one should know about his own stance and changes for the time being.
That is enough!
He immediately suppressed the unease in his heart and tentatively asked, "What Task did that lord give you?"
The Constructicons seemed to have grown impatient with dealing with him and took over the conversation, but their deep voices revealed a sense of annoyance, "That has nothing to do with you! Let's go, Sideways..."
Sideways, whose gaze had been fixed on Sun Cheng the entire time, rolled his eyes and replied with a question instead, "What about you, Frenzy? Who are you serving now?"
Sun Cheng watched the change in the Constructicons' expressions and felt slightly at ease.
It seems the other party is likely still unaware of his current situation.
He turned his head to look at Sideways, his expression growing colder.
"His Majesty Megatron was previously besieged by the Autobots and humans on Earth. He and Blackout were killed in action, and I don't know where the humans have hidden their bodies. I am currently investigating this matter..."
After speaking, Sun Cheng's eyes stared fixedly at Sideways and the Constructicons.
Deliberately leaking the news of Megatron's death was his probe into the two of them, or rather, into The Fallen.
Brawl had mentioned earlier that The Fallen was Megatron's teacher.
Frenzy, who was occupied by Sun Cheng, had not experienced the era of the Ancient Council; he was merely a young Decepticon born during the civil war.
Therefore, because he could not be certain if Brawl's words were credible, he still needed to verify the truth himself.
Mechanical Life forms are indeed not intelligent beings skilled at hiding their emotions. Staring intently at the two, Sun Cheng soon had an unexpected harvest.
When he deliberately revealed the news about Megatron, the Constructicons' bodies jolted, and even the expression of Sideways, who had been wearing a seductive smile, froze for a moment. With such significant changes in expression, they must have been unaware of this news.
"In that case, these two guys must have arrived in the Solar System not long ago... But, does The Fallen really not know the news that Megatron is dead?"
Although he noticed the change in Sideways and the Constructicons' expressions, the available intelligence he possessed was so scarce that Sun Cheng could not extract more information from it.
Staring at the two calmly while calculating carefully in his heart, he did not forget to continue questioning, "What about you? How did you end up here? What Task did that lord give you?"
"This..."
The Constructicons did not seem as clumsy as they appeared on the surface.
He hesitated and looked at Sideways. Sideways' eyes flickered imperceptibly for a moment before he said in his shrill voice, "Lord The Fallen ordered us to come and find the Matrix of Leadership. It is said to be a holy relic even more miraculous than the AllSpark, and it is currently on Earth!"
The Matrix of Leadership?!
Sun Cheng's eyes lit up; he actually knew the legend of the Matrix of Leadership.
Previously, while absorbing Jazz's Memory Data, he had seen a legend about the Matrix of Leadership within it. It was said that the Matrix of Leadership was the birthplace of the Autobots' souls and the source of eternal life.
Although the origin of this legend was unclear, in Jazz's memories, Optimus Prime had once personally admitted to him that he had never seen the Matrix of Leadership, and even mentioned that not even the former leader of the Autobots—Sentinel Prime, that powerful Autobot leader whose combat strength surpassed even Megatron—had ever possessed it.
Therefore, he had always assumed that the Matrix of Leadership was merely a legend fabricated by the Autobots.
He had not expected to hear from Sideways that 'The Fallen' was also looking for it, and that it was on Earth!
At the thought of this, Sun Cheng could not help but tremble slightly with excitement.
It took a great deal of effort to suppress the excitement in his heart.
However, his heart was far from as calm as he appeared on the surface!
Noticing that the look Sideways gave him was vaguely strange, Sun Cheng's expression shifted slightly, and he could not help but become more guarded.
This Sideways was quite strange; whether intentional or accidental, after revealing this news to Sun Cheng, he soon left with the Constructicons, not knowing where they were going to continue searching for the legendary Matrix of Leadership.
Leaving him where he was, he waited until the two had completely walked away before returning to the Ghost, urging Hephaestus and the others to continue rushing toward the South Pacific region.
What Sun Cheng did not know was that shortly after he and the Ghost entered the Pacific Ocean, because of the loss of a Typhoon-class submarine, his name was mentioned once again in the United States White House.
Washington, United States, 2:06 AM (there is a seven-hour time difference between Moscow and Washington). When a rapid knocking sound came from outside the bedroom, President Cheney, who had been awakened from a sweet sleep, was furious.
Just as he was about to scold them coldly, the voice from outside the door instantly made his sleepiness vanish, "Mr. President, the Moscow Embassy has made an emergency call. It would be best if you could see it yourself!"
"Moscow?"
Cheney's expression changed drastically. He hurriedly climbed out of bed, tidied his robe slightly, and asked urgently, "What happened in Russia? Is that President Vladimir finally dropping the pretense and becoming a dictator?"
From his words, it was not hard to hear how much Cheney hated that strong president of Russia.
However, this could not be blamed on him. Vladimir had taken over as Russian president almost at the same time as him. Under his leadership, Russia emerged from the pain of the shock therapy formulated by American experts, the economy began to recover, and the military became increasingly tough. In recent years, he had frequently arm-wrestled with the United States on the international political stage.
It is no exaggeration to say that half of President Cheney's term was spent fighting with those gentlemen on Capitol Hill, and most of the energy of the other half was spent on Vladimir. If this old rival were truly tearing off his hypocritical mask to become a dictator just as his term was about to end, Cheney would definitely be the happiest person.
Unfortunately, the secretary's answer disappointed him, "No, Mr. President, you had better come and see for yourself!"
"I understand!"
After soothing his wife who had been awakened, Cheney walked out of the bedroom, hurriedly splashed cold water on his face, and after changing into a proper suit, he walked into his office.
There, his secretary had already been waiting.
