Chapter 211: Everything Ready (Makeup)

~8 min read 1,424 words

Another week or more passed by in the blink of an eye.

Under Sun Cheng's orders, Base No. 2, for the first time since its completion, began to work at full capacity with extreme efficiency for a single task.

However, although Atlas and the others temporarily stopped the production of industrial robots and shifted all their resources, energy, and effort into the production of the newly designed combat robots, a mountain of problems still came rushing in.

Three of the rare metals required for the Cybertronian alloy of the Steel-Slashing Military Sabers could not be obtained on Earth and had to be substituted, which undoubtedly greatly delayed the manufacturing of the sabers.

Besides this, the difficulty of manufacturing the energy cores, which reached 800 energy points, was also much harder than Sun Cheng and his team had estimated.

Fortunately, thanks to the data provided by Frenzy earlier, after a period of overcoming technical hurdles, they finally managed to produce a "big heart" capable of providing abundant energy for the combat robots.

It was just that the manufacturing efficiency was comparable to when their technology was still immature and they were making cores for industrial robots; a single Worker needed almost two days to produce one central core.

However, despite the numerous problems, the power that Base No. 2 erupted with for the first time was not to be underestimated.

By the day before they were set to depart for Lop Nur in Xinjiang, thanks to the efforts of Atlas and the industrial robots, the total number of combat robots standing before Sun Cheng had reached seven.

"Seven, huh? That's enough for now..."

Inside the Laboratory, Sun Cheng looked at these combat robots that had been sent over for final debugging, yet he still felt some dissatisfaction in his heart.

It was not dissatisfaction with the quantity, but rather with the performance.

Because Atlas and the others were still testing substitutes for the three rare metals not found on Earth needed for the Steel-Slashing Military Sabers, all five of the combat robots already manufactured were not yet equipped with the Steel-Slashing Military Sabers.

Considering that it was unknown when the new alloy would be produced, close-quarters combat remained one of the weaknesses of this combat robot model.

His gaze swept over the shoulders of the combat robots in front of him, where each was equipped with a Plasma Shoulder Cannon very similar to the one captured from the Ghost; it was a product that Atlas and the others had slightly modified based on the shoulder cannon used by the Ghost.

The so-called P2 standard was a set of calculation standards formulated by the Workers to calculate the power of the plasma-type energy weapons they designed.

This standard had five levels in total, from low to high: P1, P2, P3, P4, and P5.

Taking the plasma shoulder cannon originally equipped on the Ghost as an example, it belonged to the P2 level in this standard, because the plasma shoulder cannon mostly fired highly concentrated energy bullets, with an explosive power slightly higher than five kilograms of high-energy mixed explosives; one shot was enough to destroy an infantry fighting vehicle, or even destroy a third-generation main battle tank from the side.

The P1 level was even worse than the P2 level; it was a low-power plasma hand cannon, a weapon Sun Cheng had requested the Workers to design for his real-world self. It also fired highly concentrated energy bullets, with each bullet having the power equivalent to 0.5 kilograms of ordinary explosives; however, one shot was enough to destroy a standard car or even an armored sedan. Although it was helpless against weapons like infantry fighting vehicles, its advantage lay in its low consumption.

The explosive power of P3/P4 had already reached the standard of thirty kilograms and one hundred and fifty kilograms of high-energy mixed explosives, respectively. Only plasma weapons of P3 standard or higher could pose a fatal threat to the Advanced Warriors of the Autobots and Decepticons. Sun Cheng was currently equipped with a P4-level plasma weapon; as long as one shot hit, it could easily tear through the body armor of an Autobot that even missiles could not tear through.

However, the more powerful the plasma weapon, the more energy it consumed.

The P4-level plasma cannon Sun Cheng was currently equipped with consumed 80 points of energy per shot.

One could imagine how terrifying the energy consumption would be for a P5-level plasma weapon, which Atlas and the others designed to have an explosive power at the five-hundred-kilogram level.

Moreover, plasma-type energy weapons had a very serious drawback!

Extracting energy from the Spark or core and then transmitting it to the weapon before firing took several seconds.

Do not underestimate these few seconds; unless in a noisy situation, it was very easy for the highly mobile Advanced Warriors of the Decepticons or Autobots to dodge it in a one-on-one confrontation.

Therefore, while plasma weapons were powerful, their energy consumption and drawbacks were also very obvious.

Frenzy and the others were currently staying in Sun Cheng's Laboratory, each fiddling with a P3-level plasma hand cannon in their hands, their faces each revealing a look of satisfaction.

However, the attention of these two was clearly not entirely absorbed by their new weapons.

Hearing his words, Frenzy couldn't help but put away his weapon and asked, "Master, are you planning to take some action?"

"Action..." Sun Cheng muttered the word, his gaze lingering on him and Frenzy for a moment before he slowly nodded and said, "You could say that!"

Sun Cheng held extremely high expectations for the upcoming trip to China and Russia.

If everything went as smoothly as he thought, after this round of contact, not only would the problem of insufficient energy supply that had been holding him back be solved, but Sun Cheng and his team would also be able to obtain a steady stream of materials and rare metals from China and Russia, and even his New Body would benefit from this and be completed in the near future.

By comparison, trading some of the technology already phased out by Cybertron to China and Russia was a steady and profitable deal no matter how one looked at it.

Besides, just because he didn't do this business didn't mean the Autobots wouldn't.

Sun Cheng did not believe that Optimus Prime was really just uniting with the United States government to fight the Decepticons without making any deals behind the scenes.

If Optimus Prime really were like that, he would instead feel relieved.

To have established contact with the strongest country on Earth, the United States, right from the start, yet fail to seize this opportunity to fight for more benefits for the entire race—this young Leader of the Autobots would be nothing more than that.

His gaze turned to Frenzy and the others in turn; Sun Cheng had originally intended to take them both along, but after pondering for a moment, he dismissed the thought.

In this operation, the storage function of the Spherical Space would very likely be used, and he did not want to expose this ability of his; besides, Base No. 2 also needed people to guard it.

At that moment, he turned to Atlas and instructed, "How is the technical data I asked you to organize over the past two days coming along?"

"Master, according to your instructions, I have already organized dozens of technologies that humans on Earth can currently use."

"Very good, transmit them to me..."

After staring at each other for a while and quickly receiving the dozens of technologies organized by Atlas, Sun Cheng waved everyone away. Then, after scanning the surroundings to ensure that none of the Workers were secretly planting surveillance equipment in his Laboratory, he waved his hand and collected all seven combat robots into the Spherical Space.

After staying in the Laboratory for a while longer and simply organizing the technologies transmitted by Atlas, seeing that the time was about right, Sun Cheng sent a remote communication to Hephaestus, and he himself then left Base No. 2 and flew toward the South Pacific region.

The trip to China was about to begin!

1. This is a makeup chapter for the days I missed. Because my feel for writing hasn't been very good these past two days, I only managed to make it up today. I bow and apologize here.

2. Thanks to the four readers 'Frenzy~', 'Misaka mikoto', 'Book Friend 20170411120750563', and 'Zong AOM' for their tips and support.
