Chapter 392: Military Coup (Part II)
As if sensing that this was an ominous night, after nightfall in La Paz, the sky was covered in thick clouds, and even the air seemed to hold a depressing sense of unease.
Yuri struggled to put on his bulletproof vest, looked down at his bulging belly, and took a puff of his cigar with a muffled sound.
Having transferred from the military to the CIA, he still had a bit of combat capability compared to most of the CIA's civilian agents.
Well, just a bit.
In fact, ever since he was promoted to Senior Agent and became responsible for fencing stolen goods for the CIA, he had been away from the front lines for a long time.
Especially in the last six months, Yuri's life in Rio had been one of debauchery and luxury; even if it hadn't reached the legendary level of "wine pools and meat forests," it wasn't far off.
Now, the six-pack abs that could once be vaguely seen on his lower abdomen had grown into a single mass, and his belly was a full two sizes larger than before.
If the matter tonight weren't so important, he, being afraid of death, wouldn't even want to appear on the battlefield.
"... Boss, we're ready!"
A tall and sturdy African mercenary walked over. His name was Dibamu, an Afro-Brazilian. His ancestors were likely black slaves brought to Brazil by force during the Age of Discovery, but unlike the pure-blooded Africans who had smuggled themselves in or immigrated in recent years, his skin color had already changed from charcoal black to brown.
Yuri and his men were currently at a military Base that had been abandoned by the Bolivian Army; it had been arranged by Colonel Numar and was about eighty-five kilometers from downtown La Paz.
Because the orders from the Pioneer came very suddenly, most of the mercenaries in the camp had already gone to sleep. After being suddenly woken up and told the news of the impending coup, these retired veterans who had served in the militaries of several different countries performed very poorly.
Just dressing, organizing equipment, and assembling took nearly two hours.
However, Yuri did not care much about this. The Pioneer had taken on the most difficult targets of the coup; if they still lost under these conditions, they would truly be worse than trash.
Flicking the ash from his cigar and looking at the squads of mercenaries already assembled in the camp, they looked decent enough under the dim lighting.
His eyes narrowed into slits, and he nodded at his confidant with satisfaction, "Dibamu, well done!"
Racial discrimination is not something that only exists in a certain country; it exists in almost every country on Earth, and the more Western the political system, the worse it is.
Although Brazil's economy had been increasingly failing in recent years, it was still a hegemon in South America, and the white population, as the primary controllers of the country, had an innate discrimination against immigrants of other races.
Life was not easy for an African like Dibamu. In his early years, he had joined the army to make a living. After retiring and failing to transfer into the military police, he had to return to his hometown—the slums of Rio—and rely on manual labor at the docks to scrape by.
For someone like Dibamu who lacked education and connections, a security company was a decent way out, especially since the salary Yuri offered was higher than other security companies.
At the beginning, many people, including Dibamu, only joined him because of the compensation.
Although many people recruited into the security company by Yuri only realized something was wrong after boarding the "black ship" and taking his money, what did it matter if they realized it?
Training their physical fitness, running, and shooting, eating and drinking well every day, and earning a salary higher than many office workers in Rio—only a fool would leave.
Even later, when he drew personnel from the security company, claiming they were hired to disguise themselves as coup soldiers to participate in a coup in a neighboring country, many people volunteered to join.
There was no helping it; one could only say that money blinds people.
Regardless of whether the Task succeeded or not, everyone could immediately receive a twenty-thousand-dollar settlement fee just for participating, and if the coup succeeded, there was another thirty thousand dollars to be had.
Moreover, the target was Bolivia, a country whose military strength ranked among the lowest in South America, so it was not hard to explain how Yuri had managed his subordinates.
Snapping his fingers, two subordinates immediately understood and focused two spotlights on him.
Yuri instantly felt countless gazes fixed upon him. He didn't show a hint of stage fright; throwing his cigar onto the ground, he took a megaphone, turned it on, and held it in one hand, while his other hand held a brand-new AK-74 rifle high in the air, a malicious smile appearing on his face.
"... I won't say any more unnecessary nonsense. Today, we have come here, hired by someone to participate in a coup that will determine the fate of a country... You should feel lucky, because your boss is me, and the one thing I'm not short of is weapons and dollars... Of course, I also feel very lucky, because my boss just told me... the coup tonight is bound to succeed. Another force will also participate in the coup, so besides needing to take over the Parliament Building, the Guojia Dianshitai, the Ministry of Interior, the Jichang, and the Huochezhan, we basically don't need to participate in any fighting..."
Inside the military camp, there was a clamor of voices and a lot of noise.
Yuri snorted impatiently: "... Quiet..."
Only a few of his subordinates knew of the Pioneer's existence; the vast majority still did not know who they were working for.
Yuri couldn't be bothered to explain. He swept his gaze across the mercenaries who were gradually quieting down, finally landing on the dozens of military trucks and infantry fighting vehicles parked on the side of the camp, and waved the hand holding the weapon forward.
"According to the revised plan, move out!"
The noisy military camp masked many things.
The Pioneer activated the Optical Stealth Device and stood coldly in the military camp.
Controlling Bolivia was an important part of the master's plan. Once this place was controlled, it meant that the forces controlled by Sun Cheng would begin to unfold the curtain of expansion on this intelligent planet called Earth.
Therefore, the first step must not have any mistakes.
The coup must succeed!
As Yuri announced the start of the operation, infantry fighting vehicles and military trucks transported through various channels quickly drove away from the abandoned military camp and headed toward downtown La Paz.
The Pioneer was not in a hurry to set off. Imitating his master in every aspect, after changing into his New Body, his transformation form was not the various types of vehicles that the vast majority of Decepticon and Autobot Warriors preferred for close-quarters combat, but the same aerial form as Sun Cheng.
Although the four hours agreed upon between him and Yuri had not yet passed, Yuri and his men had to set off in advance.
Colonel Numar had deliberately chosen this abandoned base far from the city to house the mercenaries to avoid exposure. Although this reduced the possibility of exposure, it also increased the marching distance.
Waiting directly in the base for more than half an hour, calculating Yuri and his men's travel time in his heart, and estimating the position they would likely reach, the Pioneer knew it was time for him to set off.
The light on his body flickered slightly. After the Optical Stealth Device was deactivated, he calibrated his target coordinates against the satellites in the sky, suddenly took a few small steps and jumped. After undergoing a dazzling transformation in the air more than ten meters high, a slender but very beautiful conventional swept-wing aircraft sprayed fire and quickly rushed toward the high altitude of ten thousand meters.
The Mirage F-1D, a third-generation fighter (new standard) developed and improved by the French Dassault company, was exactly the transformation form chosen by the Pioneer after changing into his New Body.
The reason for choosing it was that there was no other way.
Whether Decepticon or Autobot, before determining a transformation form, they need to perform a comprehensive scan of the reference target before they can perform reconstructive modeling of their own bodies.
Unfortunately, the United States has always regarded Latin America as its own backyard, so it has vigorously suppressed the military power of countries in Central America and South America. Advanced things like fourth-generation aircraft are not equipped by any third country except Chile and Venezuela (both are F-16s).
Brazil had once thought about purchasing Mirage-2000s from France, but the deal was ruined by U. S. interference, and they turned to purchase the cheaper third-generation Mirage F-1D.
Flying at an altitude of ten thousand meters, enjoying the whistling wind constantly brushing over the airframe, the Pioneer enjoyed increasing his speed, and immediately entered supersonic cruise.
Limited by the Mirage F-1D model, the energy he consumed and the drag he experienced when entering supersonic cruise were much greater than Sun Cheng's.
However, this was just to hurry on his way. Seeing that the lights of the bustling downtown La Paz could already be vaguely seen, he soon exited the cruise and began to reduce his speed and altitude.
Bolivia is one of the countries with the worst military strength on the South American continent.
Since its founding, it has been at war with almost all surrounding countries, so it has been tacitly suppressed by its neighbors, especially Chile and Paraguay, whose military exercises almost every year point their guns directly at Bolivia.
Without an outlet to the sea, it is difficult to transport minerals out; the plateau terrain makes transportation inconvenient; the tourism industry is underdeveloped; economic development cannot go up, etc. With many internal and external factors mixed together, the military budget that the Bolivian military can obtain each year is very limited. After the bulk is used to pay soldiers' salaries and subsidies, there is no money left to purchase advanced equipment other than picking up scraps all over the world.
For example, the Bolivian Air Force is currently only equipped with a few MiG-23s that might fall apart any day. It was only after the new president visited China early this year that they purchased K-8 trainer aircraft, which will be delivered in 10 years and will be the main force of the Bolivian Air Force in the future...
Therefore, the Pioneer also felt privately that his participation in the coup was a serious waste.
When he was only seventeen kilometers from the city, he had already descended to an altitude of four thousand seven hundred meters; La Paz's radar finally reacted, and feeling detection waves illuminating his fuselage, the Forerunner did not care, for in his Mirage F1 form, he was like a fifth-generation fighter jet, and two AS-14kongdidaodan imported from Russia slowly extended from his lower belly weapons bay, soon being moved to the launch rails under his wings.
Then, without waiting for the air defense sirens of La Paz to sound, the Missile turned into two fire snakes in the dark night, one shooting toward a Bolivian Army anti-aircraft artillery position four kilometers from the Presidential Residence, and one flying toward the temporary barracks of the guard company near the residence.
After the flashes of light and the sounds of explosions immediately triggered the Awakening of this sleeping city, before it could react, the Forerunner, having drawn a perfect arc in the air, once again fired two AS-14kongdidaodan at the Presidential Residence.
His Task was to eliminate the new president to ensure the paralysis of the country's administrative system; as for the Presidential Residence being blown into ruins, that was none of his business.
After confirming that the two AS-14kongdidaodan had turned the Presidential Residence below into a complete sea of fire, the Forerunner circled a few times above the sea of fire, corrected his heading slightly, and then turned to fly toward the next target.
……
The explosions and the sky-high flames were exceptionally conspicuous in the dark night.
At the same time, in the communication channel of the infantry fighting vehicle where Yuri was located, a cold electronic voice sounded, "The Presidential Palace has been resolved, four ground-attack Missile, it has become a sea of fire there, no one can survive!"
Yuri knew this was the Forerunner; although he wondered how he knew the communication channel of his fighting vehicle, he still picked up the walkie-talkie and replied: "Received, Excellency, please keep up the good work!"
The Forerunner did not answer him, and Yuri was not surprised; he signaled his men to help open the reconnaissance hatch of the infantry fighting vehicle, exposed half of his body, raised his night-vision binoculars to look at the explosion flames in the city center dozens of kilometers away, his face filled with intoxication.
"Alright, boys, our battle has also begun!"
He quickly retracted into the infantry fighting vehicle, took a map from one of his men, looked at it for a few seconds, and then raised the walkie-talkie in his hand.
"Dibamu, we will arrive in the city in a few minutes. According to the previous plan, we will split into two groups... you take a team and advance toward the Yihui and the Ministry of Interior, control these two places as quickly as possible..."
Just as he was speaking, two more explosions came from the direction of the city, and then the Forerunner's cold voice interrupted his command, sounding again in the communication channel.
"Jingcha Zongbu has been destroyed, I will head to destroy the 732nd Regiment..."
Yuri's voice faltered, and after exchanging glances with the few men in the fighting vehicle, he raised the walkie-talkie again and spoke slowly.
"... Then, the First Battalion will follow me to rescue Colonel Numar... the Second Battalion will be commanded by Dibamu, I hope we can completely end the battle within two hours..."
"Re... received!"
Dibamu's voice quickly came from the other end of the communication, though, just like him, it carried a bit of a tremor.
He was one of the few subordinates of Yuri who knew of the Forerunner's existence and had met him, but Yuri had not revealed much about what kind of existence the Decepticon were, only cryptically mentioning to his confidants that these visitors from beyond the sky were the force they were truly working for.
Tonight, all those in the know, including Yuri himself, would have to re-evaluate what kind of powerful and terrifying existence the force they truly served was.
Yes, amidst the continuously burning sea of fire in La Paz and the constant sounds of explosions.
