Chapter 446: Skyfire (Part I)

~7 min read 1,331 words

Washington, the capital of the United States, is officially known as Washington, Columbia District.

Named after the first president of the United States, George Washington, it is located near Fujiniyazhou and Maryland. Situated in the northeastern part of the United States in the mid-Atlantic region, it is a special administrative district established in 1790 to serve as the capital and is directly governed by the United States Congress.

Washington is not an internationally developed commercial metropolis like New York, and its population is even smaller than some state capitals within the United States, yet no person or force dares to underestimate it.

There is no other reason: this is the decision-making center of the most powerful human nation on Earth—the United States.

As soon as they entered the territory of Washington, Sun Cheng and Pathfinder immediately landed on the ground.

One must say it is truly worthy of being the capital of the American empire; the defensive forces here look loose, but the deployed anti-aircraft radars are several times denser than the several U. S. military bases they bypassed, and there are even four sets of Dark Spectrum Reconnaissance Systems scanning aerial units continuously with almost no blind spots.

All sorts of signs indicate one thing: this place is on high alert!

"The alert level has been raised by at least one grade since the last time I came here!"

Pathfinder suddenly spoke up. The Base has collected a lot of data on Earth, especially regarding the two nuclear giants, the United States and Russia, including news, military data, and so on; the total volume, calculated in Earth's Computer Science storage units, must be at least seventy or eighty EB.

Pathfinder had clearly read some materials about the United States, which is why he had the concept of alert levels.

Sun Cheng frowned slightly upon hearing this.

Pathfinder had only been dispatched by him to the United States a short while ago, less than a month in total.

In such a short time, the alert in Washington had been raised so much, and it was not limited to the capital area; they could feel the increase in alert levels almost everywhere they passed within the United States on their way here.

This was rather strange!

Regarding the nature of the Yankees, whether in the Transformers universe or the real world, Sun Cheng had learned more than once from various news and current affairs that they are arrogant, domineering, unreasonable, self-important, and unscrupulous.

Although that is based on confidence in their own military power, Sun Cheng believes that once the Yankees know that a fragment of the AllSpark exists, they cannot sit by and watch the Autobots take it away, especially after paying a painful price in the Battle of Las Vegas.

Therefore, ever since he learned that the human boy Sam had a piece of the AllSpark, Sun Cheng, like Pathfinder, became suspicious; he did not believe that Sam could hide a fragment from the United States government's inspection and bring it back to his own home.

Then only two possibilities remain: either the Autobots knew from the beginning that Sam had a fragment, but for some reason, they did not expose it or ask him for it.

Or, this fragment was sent to Sam by someone else later on.

The latter possibility was too bizarre; even Sun Cheng did not know why such a thought had popped into his head, so he just assumed his habit of being overly suspicious had flared up again.

However, if it were the former, then even if the AllSpark fragment were stolen, the Autobots should have investigated it privately rather than making such a huge scene, otherwise, just the accountability from their American allies would be a big trouble.

Optimus Prime could not possibly be unaware that although the Autobots are trying their best to help humans, in the eyes of humans, the Autobots are just like the Decepticons—foreign invaders; that is why there has always been a voice within the United States that is hostile to the Autobots and firmly opposes cooperating with them.

Following this line of reasoning, the reaction of the United States government was too strange.

"Could it be that in the past few days, besides the fragment being stolen, something else has happened in the United States that has touched the Yankees' nerves?"

After frowning and thinking for a while, Sun Cheng soon gave up helplessly.

He has too little information now; although he had operated some secret lines within the United States in the past, he did not come to Washington this time to spy for intelligence, but to handle something more important.

To avoid complications, Sun Cheng finally resisted the urge to trigger his intelligence network to get a glimpse of the truth behind it.

Relying on the Optical Stealth Device, although it was a bit slow, after more than an hour, the two Decepticons arrived at their target location as they wished—the National Air and Space Museum of the United States.

Although there was some delay, because it was already midnight when they arrived in Washington, it actually made the subsequent tasks more convenient.

Pathfinder was quite familiar with the route; he led Sun Cheng in front, easily bypassing the high walls and guard room on the perimeter of the museum, and the two entered the museum from the outdoor exhibition area of the Air and Space Museum.

Three or five minutes later, they arrived outside the exhibition hall where the Blackbird lay sleeping.

Pathfinder pointed to the exhibition hall sealed by a huge rolling shutter door and said respectfully, "Master, the Decepticon I discovered is sleeping in this museum!"

Sun Cheng had already detected the surveillance equipment spread throughout the hall, and his heart stirred; two blue beams of light shot from his eyes, and he quickly took control of all the surveillance equipment in the hall, taking everything inside the entire museum into his view.

At midnight, there were naturally no visitors in the museum, so the dim exhibition hall was left with only some exhibits, among which was the dormant Decepticon that Pathfinder had discovered, suspected to be a Pathfinder.

Although there were two security personnel inside the museum, one was in the guard room smoking and watching TV, only occasionally glancing at the dozens of surveillance screens in front of him; while the other was lying on a chair with his hat covering his face, seemingly resting.

Sun Cheng did not want to alert them, lest he cause complications and attract the Autobots.

He knew that although the United States government, in order to appease Congress and some forces in the country hostile to visitors from beyond the stars, had publicly announced that the Autobots would be stationed on Diego Garcia in the Yindu Yang, the White House had reached a secret agreement with Optimus Prime in private, allowing an elite squad consisting of at least four Autobot Warriors to move into a U. S. military base in Washington D. C.

That is why he was so careful; he just did not want to cause complications.

As for a rolling shutter door, solving it was the easiest thing for two Decepticons.

After Sun Cheng gave an order, Pathfinder immediately stepped forward, stretched out his right hand, and two flames shot out from the tips of his index and middle fingers, quickly cutting into the rolling shutter door.

It only took a dozen seconds for him to cut a gap in the door large enough for one to bow and pass through, and then he reached out to pull the cut Ironhide out and placed it gently on the ground to the side.

Sun Cheng bowed his head and entered the exhibition hall through the gap; as soon as he stood still, his gaze immediately turned to the Blackbird high-altitude reconnaissance plane in the corner of the hall.
