Chapter 460: Awakening Project (Part II)

~7 min read 1,210 words

Although Sun Cheng would not dare to claim he was the biggest winner of the Battle of Las Vegas a year ago, half of the power he possesses now stems from that battle.

In this chaotic melee between the Decepticons, the Autobots, and the Americans, Sun Cheng managed to grab a large piece of the cake.

Not to mention the four fragments of the AllSpark; without them, Base No. 2 would not exist today.

Beyond that, Sun Cheng also obtained quite a few other benefits.

For instance, half the remains of the elite Autobot Warrior Jazz, who was torn apart by Megatron himself, as well as the head of Blackout, which he had severed.

The importance of these two trophies is, to a certain extent, not a whit inferior to those four AllSpark fragments.

Including Sun Cheng himself, the bodies of all the Decepticons under his command now incorporate, to a greater or lesser degree, designs and technologies used on Jazz's body.

Not to mention that the Memory Chips of Jazz and Blackout also allowed him to learn many secrets regarding the Autobots and the Decepticons.

Although Sun Cheng eventually bit the bullet and traded Jazz's Memory Chip to Onslaught in order to win him over.

But it was also from that moment on, clearly knowing that Onslaught would inevitably use Jazz's Memory Chip to cultivate a subordinate loyal to him, that the same idea uncontrollably sprouted in his own mind.

Blackout became the best subject for this experiment.

The Awakening Project, as the name suggests, is to awaken such an elite Decepticon Warrior of the past.

Sun Cheng stood quietly before the three bodies; apprehension, fanaticism, and unease pulsed in his mind one after another.

Although the Cybertronian civilization experienced a clear fracture in its technological heritage due to the "Cosmic Rust" and two civil wars, and many advanced technologies from the most glorious period of the Council of Ancients could not be successfully passed down, some technologies were clearly not among them.

For example, medical technology focused on the military field!

Both Starscream and Shockwave are experts in this field; the former is proficient in various techniques for cultivating Newborn Decepticons—it is no exaggeration to say that over half of the Cannon Fodder warriors of the Decepticon Legion were cultivated by his hands—and he is not only more advanced in technology than Atlas and the others, but the success rate is also higher.

As for Shockwave, look up "Triple Changer" and "Giant Decepticon."

Sun Cheng once peered into the memories of Megatron and Jetfire, and thus understood how terrifying Shockwave is!

However, it is also thanks to them that medical technology focused on the military field has almost not suffered any major fractures and has been able to be passed down to this day.

Among the medical technologies of the Cybertronian civilization, Awakening is one of the most cutting-edge.

To put it plainly, the so-called Awakening is to allow Mechanical Life that has died for various reasons—such as the extinguishing of the Spark or excessive body damage—to regain a second life.

This technology, whether in the Decepticon Legion or among the Autobots, is only mastered by a few scientists.

At the beginning of establishing Base No. 2, the group of Decepticon Workers under Sun Cheng did not actually master this technology.

Resurrecting a dead Mechanical Life involves no small number of difficult problems.

Atlas and the others were born as Decepticon Workers; as the lowest level of the Decepticon Legion, bearing almost all the menial tasks, although their status is humble, Workers are cultivated to complete almost all work including mining, smelting, and machine/weapon manufacturing, so every Newborn Worker has a vast amount of knowledge stuffed into their Core like force-feeding.

Although the Workers do not know much about medicine, it is fortunate that Sun Cheng had obtained some Medical Spiders from Onslaught back then.

These miniature Decepticons, distinct from the Workers, are said to have been first cultivated by Shockwave specifically to provide medical support for the Decepticon army on the battlefield, and almost every one of them is a top-tier doctor.

Although it is a bit unfair to the Medical Spiders, Sun Cheng did indeed dismantle quite a few of them to study Decepticon medical technology.

The results were significant; although the Medical Spiders did not master the Awakening technology, the other medical technologies they stored were very comprehensive.

After a series of long experiments, such as various tests during the cultivation of Newborn Decepticons and the process of changing bodies, plus the fact that Sun Cheng held several AllSpark fragments to provide protection.

After much tossing and turning, they finally managed to master the Awakening technology by taking a shortcut.

"... Is awakening Blackout right or wrong..."

Sun Cheng himself found it difficult to answer this question.

The unlucky guy Frenzy, whom he possessed, is one example.

Frenzy died in the second Cybertronian Civil War; although his Memory Chip was preserved intact, he was granted a second life by Soundwave using the Awakening technology.

But later, after Sun Cheng had Soundwave's seal on the Memory Chip deep within his Core uncovered by Starscream, there was nothing left between the two but hatred, and they could only head toward opposition.

Standing from his own perspective, the word "dislike" is no longer enough to describe his feelings about his fate being controlled by others; if he had to find a word to describe it, "loathing" might be more appropriate.

Because of this, Sun Cheng had been very clear from the beginning about the danger of his attempt to resurrect Blackout using the Awakening technology.

But he still had to bite the bullet and push forward, simply because although Base No. 2 was developing fast enough, the speed of his power expansion still could not keep up with the development of the situation on Earth.

In the current Transformers Universe, the tiny Earth has already attracted Megatron and his Decepticon Legion, Optimus Prime and his Autobots, as well as The Fallen, one of the thirteen original Primes of Cybertron.

Coupled with the five major rogue nations on Earth, a fierce battle might break out tomorrow, or perhaps today; no one can say for sure when it will erupt.

Yet Sun Cheng himself was dragged into the vortex from the very beginning, and he cannot break free even if he wants to.

Therefore, what he needs most right now is to use any means necessary to improve his own strength and power.

There is temporarily no upper limit to the improvement of his strength; Sun Cheng only recently changed into this New Body and is currently still in the break-in period. Ordering the Engineers to design a more powerful New Body for himself would not significantly improve his strength, but the drawbacks are obvious: he would need to spend far more time than he currently has to adapt to the new body.

And time is exactly what Sun Cheng lacks most right now.

So, since there is no room for greater improvement in his own strength in the short term, he can only consider it from the perspective of improving his own power.

Thus, there is no more powerful means of improvement than resurrecting an elite Decepticon Warrior like Blackout.
