Chapter 586: Prelude to the Melee (Please Subscribe)

~7 min read 1,258 words

Within the borders of Giza Province, Egypt.

The fierce battle between the Autobots and Devastator was already nearing its end.

The fight had lasted for nearly an hour, and the Autobots had not suffered any serious casualties; if one were to really count, it was only Sandstorm, who had arrived on Earth not long ago and whose transformation form was a heavy-duty jeep, who had been slapped by Devastator for getting too close during the battle, and now his whole body was spraying electric sparks.

Looking at Devastator, whose limbs had been broken and who was now unable to move, Optimus Prime aimed at his head and muttered in a low voice: "For those who sacrificed themselves at the Manganese-Iron Mountain Range!"

Then, without hesitation, he pulled the trigger, and a laser blast shot out, piercing directly through the head of Devastator, whose surface armor he had already breached, leaving this giant, who was still struggling, unable to move ever again.

"We won!"

Arcee came to his side and whispered comfortingly.

The Manganese-Iron Mountain Range was a strategic stronghold on the second hemisphere of Cybertron; just as its name suggested, it possessed rich manganese-iron resources and was one of the fiercely contested areas between the Decepticons and Autobots during the civil war.

Optimus Prime had served as a Commander back then, leading the Autobots in a bitter struggle against the Decepticons there for decades.

It wasn't until the birth of Devastator that the Decepticon Legion, relying on this giant combined Decepticon, caught the Autobots off guard, leading to the eventual loss of the sturdy fortress and the fall of the Manganese-Iron Mountain Range into the hands of the Decepticon Legion.

To cover Optimus Prime's retreat, a squad of Elite Warrior Autobots who had followed him for years and stayed behind to hold the line all died in battle at the Manganese-Iron Mountain Range.

That place had also become his nightmare for many years; sometimes, when he closed his eyes to rest, he couldn't help but think of the warriors and friends who had sacrificed themselves to protect him at the Manganese-Iron Mountain Range in the past.

"He is not that Devastator..."

After a long while, Optimus Prime slowly shook his head and walked to the side to check on Sandstorm, who was still spraying sparks all over his body.

As a trump card held by the Decepticon Legion, no fewer than a thousand Devastators had been replicated and deployed to the battlefield as early as the civil war era; who could remember that specific Devastator that conquered the Manganese-Iron Mountain Range? It had long since died on some unknown battlefield.

"Are you okay, Sandstorm?"

Sandstorm was an Autobot who had arrived on Earth not long ago, and he was also a Triple Changer.

However, unlike Drift, who excelled in combat, he was a scout, and his transformation forms were a reconnaissance helicopter and a heavy-duty all-terrain jeep.

"Leader, I am fine!"

Sandstorm's body was quite special; not only did he possess great endurance, but his ability to recover from injuries was also much faster than the average person, and he was also a wise man.

Others had not noticed, but Optimus Prime had seen it during the fight: the reason Sandstorm had stood so far forward was that Bumblebee had been too reckless during the battle and had accidentally entered Devastator's attack range.

Bumblebee's body was very fragile; many Autobots knew this.

If Devastator's slap had hit Bumblebee, the injuries would have kept him in the Base for at least half a month.

That was why Sandstorm had deliberately stepped forward to block the position, forcing Bumblebee to retreat slightly and put some distance between them.

"Thank you!"

Optimus Prime patted his shoulder lightly; Bumblebee was one of his most trusted confidants, and he greatly admired the noble quality Sandstorm showed by kindly protecting Bumblebee.

"Shall we withdraw for now? Or continue to track the target?"

Drift dropped down from the air, transformed back into his combat form, and asked.

His spirit was not very good; as a main combatant, he had fired at least a thousand rockets and missiles while transformed into an armed helicopter during the fight with Devastator, consuming a significant amount of energy stored within his Spark.

"Let's find a place to rest first!"

Optimus Prime replied in a gentle tone, while looking up at the sky; the vulture had disappeared at some point.

"Okay!"

Bumblebee replied; he had already transformed back into his sports car form, letting the shaken Sam and Mikaela sit back inside the car.

"What was that big guy just now, Bumblebee?"

Seeing the convoy start up again, Sam, who had been holding back for a long time, asked.

"That is the Constructicon squad of the Decepticon Legion. The bodies of these six Decepticons are very special and have undergone specific modifications, allowing them to combine during battle to form a giant combiner—Devastator!"

Bumblebee explained simply; when Devastator was first born during the Cybertronian Civil War, he had caused heavy losses to the Autobots.

It wasn't until the Autobots' own combiner warriors were successfully cultivated that the situation was slightly reversed.

Later on, as the number of encounters with Devastator on the battlefield increased, the Autobots gradually summarized a complete set of methods to deal with him.

For example, Devastator's surface armor was very strong; he was defined as a large strategic weapon aimed at Autobot fortresses, so his armor could withstand shelling from various types of heavy firepower.

Devastator's strength was also immense; even a Leader Class existence like Optimus Prime could not confront Devastator head-on in terms of power.

However, Devastator was not omnipotent, and his shortcomings were also very obvious.

His overly tall and bulky body not only seriously affected Devastator's speed but also made his Spark load much greater than that of an ordinary Cybertronian.

This was also the reason why Optimus Prime had arranged to stay away from his attack range and then strike his legs, where the armor was thinnest, as a tactic.

Although it was unclear why the Decepticons had not arrived yet, Optimus Prime and the others drove along the desert highway for a distance, turned onto a secondary road, and after following the navigation for a while, temporarily rested in a remote desert oasis.

Arcee, "I'll go check the surroundings!"

"Okay!"

After seeing Optimus Prime nod, Arcee transformed back into her motorcycle form and began checking around the desert oasis.

Not long after she left, just as Optimus Prime was about to chat with Sam and the others, a remote communication suddenly arrived from thousands of kilometers away.

After receiving the message, Optimus Prime's arm trembled slightly, and then he let out a soft sigh.

"Leader, what happened?"

Bumblebee asked.

Optimus Prime shook his head: "Ironhide just sent news that the Decepticon Terrorcons attacked our Base in Soli; Skids was outside installing equipment at the time and unfortunately perished!"

Come to think of it, although the brothers Skids and Mudflap were not the first batch of Autobots to come to Earth with him.

They had arrived on Earth shortly after the Battle of Las Vegas and were also among the first members of the NEST force, a collaboration between the Autobots and the United States government.

He hadn't expected both brothers to be lost here on Earth; thinking of this, Optimus Prime's mood became even heavier.

"Where exactly was the Matrix of Leadership hidden by the Primes?"
