Chapter 589: Everyone Enters the Game
Diego Garcia, Original Sound Nest headquarters.
Lieutenant Colonel William, oh no, because he had once stood up to his superiors, he had been demoted to Major once again.
Major William looked at the empty, massive warehouse before him, his expression somewhat lonely.
His good friend and subordinate, Captain Robert, walked over and patted him on the shoulder.
"Stop looking... the last batch of equipment is still waiting for you to sign off on the handover; the Nest no longer exists..."
The Black officer, Captain Robert, comforted him.
Major William sighed; it wasn't that he didn't understand politics, he just didn't know that politicians and the interest groups behind them could be so greedy and devoid of a bottom line.
"Are you really planning to retire?" he asked.
Captain Robert nodded, "I've been in the military for eight years; I caught both the Gulf War and the Afghanistan War... looking at it, I'm almost forty... I still haven't started a family... it's time to consider retiring..."
He looked up at the sky with a smile, his face showing longing but even more reluctance, "I plan to open a garage..."
"The military won't agree to it!"
Major William saw it very clearly, "We know too much; wanting to retire, I'm afraid it's not something that can be done just by signing a non-disclosure agreement!"
"Sector 7!"
Captain Robert knew this too, "I asked around; after retiring, we might be arranged to stay in some high-security official institutions for a few years until the government is certain we won't leak secrets!"
Looking around to make sure there were no outsiders, the Captain asked in a low voice: "Any news about the Autobots lately?"
The United States government was used to being overbearing on Earth; a while ago, they actually thought their tactics of threats and intimidation could also be used on the Autobots.
As a result, the Autobots withdrew all their personnel directly from within the United States and from U. S. military bases. Galloway was so furious afterward that his face turned green. It is said that not only was the military deeply dissatisfied with him, but even the President was very dissatisfied with his failure to get Sam back from the Autobots.
Nowadays, discussing the Autobots in the base has become a taboo. A few unlucky American soldiers happened to encounter Galloway inspecting the base while they were in the chat room; the outcome can be imagined—they were ordered to run ten laps around the base to burn off their excess energy.
You must know that although this overseas headquarters of the former Nest only covers an area of 2.3 square kilometers, because it is built on an island, the base is very long and narrow; one lap is at least three to four thousand meters.
Major William wasn't worried about his friend coming to him to fish for intelligence, so he nodded, "The SBSS (Space-Based Space Surveillance) detected traces of battles between Autobots and Decepticons in Soli and Egypt the day before yesterday... It looks like even without us, Optimus Prime and the others can still deal with the Decepticons."
Captain Robert smiled, but his face was just as disappointed as his friend's.
It seems their old friends—the Autobots—can continue to strike at the Decepticons even without the help of the Nest.
"Let's go!"
Major William personally closed and locked the garage that had already been cleaned out, patted his friend's arm, and the two were just about to leave.
Just at this moment, they saw from afar an open-top Humvee used by officers within the base, driving toward them at a speed far exceeding the regulations.
"What's going on?"
Captain Robert frowned; he felt this vehicle was likely coming for him and Major William.
"Not sure!" Major William shook his head, but his mood grew tense as a result.
The open-top Humvee drove very fast and arrived in front of the two in no time.
Their feeling was not wrong; the vehicle was indeed headed straight for them.
A young soldier with the rank of sergeant quickly jumped off the vehicle and gave the two a military salute, "Sir, we have just received urgent intelligence from back home!"
"Urgent intelligence?"
Upon hearing this, Major William hurriedly took the two or three pages of intelligence from his hand and lowered his head to read them.
"What happened?"
Robert asked from the side.
Major William's brow furrowed, and he answered without looking up: "The higher-ups are ordering us to stop the equipment handover, recall all soldiers within twelve hours, and then board a military plane to fly to the Special Operations Command in Qatar!"
"What's the situation?" Robert was completely confused.
"Did it start up again in the Middle East?"
"Not sure!"
Major William was also a bit baffled for a moment, but having once been appointed as the Commander of the Nest, his grasp of the situation was much stronger than Captain Robert's.
If things were truly chaotic in the Middle East, the U. S. military forces stationed in and around the Middle East alone would be enough to fight a campaign.
Recalling their disbanded unit in its entirety, while also stopping the equipment handover, there was likely only one possibility.
Thinking of this, Major William couldn't help but show joy on his face.
"... No, we are the Nest; the higher-ups ordering us to recall all soldiers must be wanting to utilize our rich experience in fighting the Decepticons in the past... In other words, it is very likely that the military is going to take action against the Decepticons!"
The total annihilation of the Second Fleet's main force had long left soldiers like Major William and his men seething with anger; to say they didn't hate them would be impossible.
But the government had not stated its position before, so even if they were unwilling, they could only endure it.
After waiting for so long, they had finally waited for the country to take action.
In their excitement, it only took Major William and his men seven or eight hours to recall all the former Nest soldiers who had been received by the United States Marine Corps stationed on Diego Garcia.
Then they boarded several C-170s and headed to the Qatar Special Operations Command a step ahead.
As soon as they arrived in Qatar, a Major General was already waiting there early.
"General!"
Greeting them at the Jichang was none other than Major William's old superior, the Commander of the Qatar Special Operations Command—Major General Bolunte.
And the Major General explained the reason to them in detail.
"... A few hours ago, one of our agents lurking in Severodvinsk sent back an important piece of intelligence... The Decepticons in Severodvinsk have secretly left the country, and their target is the Jordan region... We suspect that a Cybertronian holy relic even more incredible than the 【AllSpark】—the 【Matrix of Leadership】—is very likely within Jordan..."
What Major William and his men did not know was that almost at the same time he and this batch of U. S. soldiers from the former Nest unit arrived in Qatar.
A mysterious text message was sent from his personal mobile phone, and the target was the mobile phone of Sam's girlfriend, Mikaela.
The content of the text message was very short, "Coordinates ****, ****, SBSS has discovered a large number of Decepticons gathering; the Matrix of Leadership may be hidden there!"
PS:
In the Transformers 2 blockbuster movie, Sam and the others could directly call the U. S. military base from within Egypt to find Major William. I am not very clear about the internal management of the U. S. military, so I am directly borrowing the movie setting here, which is that U. S. soldiers or officers can bring personal phones into military bases and use them to a limited extent.
