Chapter 603: Commander: Ironhide (Seeking Subscriptions)
Sam's words caused the surviving Autobots to suddenly fall silent.
Sensing that almost all the Autobots were looking at him, and thinking he had made a childish and ridiculous suggestion, Sam managed to force a stiff smile onto his face before turning to look at his girlfriend, Mikaela.
"What did you just say?"
After a long moment, Chromia was the first to break the silence and ask.
Sam thought the Autobots, who were grieving the death of their Leader, suspected he was joking about Optimus Prime.
He gave a sheepish smile, "That, it was just an idea!"
"Sam, don't be afraid, speak your idea boldly!"
Bumblebee had also reacted by now; he stood up from his previous half-kneeling position and looked down at Sam from above.
Sam's Adam's apple bobbed repeatedly; at this moment, his mood was excited and nervous as never before.
He had always felt that he was just a normal person, without extraordinary intelligence or looks, and because of this, he had felt somewhat inferior for a long time.
Even now, Sam did not think he was any more special than his normal peers.
He had always believed the only difference between him and his peers was having an incredible great-grandfather, who had gone to the Arctic ice and discovered the Decepticon leader, Megatron, and whose legacy, the glasses passed down after his death, hid a secret.
It was precisely because of the glasses left by his great-grandfather that Sam felt he had been chosen by the Autobots, and later even dragged into the battle to protect the AllSpark.
"Sam..."
Mikaela patted her boyfriend's hand, looking at him with encouraging eyes.
His girlfriend's trust made Sam feel valued as never before; he took a deep breath, met the gaze of all the Autobots, and asked Ratchet: "Ratchet, I remember you once said that the AllSpark is a huge energy source, right..."
Ratchet nodded, "The AllSpark was created by The Fallen using a star; it is indeed a huge energy source."
"Before, the Decepticon Wheelie wanted to steal a fragment from me to resurrect Megatron, and that fragment was later snatched away by Frenzy, supposedly to resurrect Jetfire... so I'll make a bold assumption... because of your special body structure, you Cybertronians have a definition of death that is completely different from us humans on Earth..."
"So I was thinking... Optimus Prime, and those Autobots who died in battle today... if we can find the Matrix of Leadership, which is said to be even more miraculous than the AllSpark, could we use its power to reactivate the extinguished Sparks of Optimus Prime and the others..."
Having said his thoughts all in one breath, Sam panted heavily, his face flushed red.
All the Autobots were looking at Ratchet; there was indeed technology on the planet Cybertron to resurrect dead Autobots or Decepticons, but that technology was only in the hands of a very small number of scientists and institutions.
The vast majority of the Autobots present had only heard of its name, but did not know the principles behind it.
Now that Sam had suddenly made such a suggestion, they were naturally waiting for Ratchet's answer, just like Sam.
After all, Ratchet was one of the most excellent Medical Officers in the Autobot camp.
Ratchet thought quietly for a moment before nodding heavily: "Theoretically feasible!"
In the Autobot camp, the number one person who mastered resurrection technology was undoubtedly Alpha Trion, but not many Autobots knew this, because Alpha Trion did not like to interact with too many people; most of the time he stayed in an archive room, silently organizing and recording the history of the planet Cybertron.
Ratchet had once assisted Wheeljack in performing surgery to resurrect Prowl, but he did not know much about the principles of resurrection.
"... Wheeljack understands resurrection technology, and my relationship with him is quite good; even if the Matrix of Leadership cannot do it, we can invite him to Earth to resurrect the Leader and other sacrificed comrades..."
Ratchet added one more sentence at the end, and it was this sentence that caused the depression and gloom shrouding the surviving Autobots to dissipate somewhat.
Drift walked over to Ironhide's side and patted his shoulder, pulling him up from his self-reproach.
"Commander, put the self-reproach and guilt aside for now... just as they said, we still have a chance... everyone is waiting for you to arrange the tasks now..."
"Yes, teacher... Sam's suggestion is feasible, so what should we do next..."
Elita One nudged Chromia, and this purple rose also walked over knowingly.
"Captain (Ironhide's former military rank)... please shoulder the heavy responsibility of leading and protecting all the Autobots on Earth during the time the Leader is temporarily absent..."
The hot-tempered Ironhide could not strictly be considered a qualified commander, at least not in peacetime.
But among the batch of Autobots who had come to Earth, there were only five who were qualified to lead the Autobots: Ironhide, Ratchet, Bumblebee, Prowl, and Arcee.
Prowl and Arcee could be directly ruled out; Prowl was once Sentinel Prime's Intelligence Chief, and his ability to collect intelligence was even above Bumblebee's, but he was not very sociable.
As for Arcee, the relatively weaker combat power of female Autobots was clearly not enough to deter all the Autobots; after all, being unruly was never just a synonym for Decepticons.
The remaining three were all Optimus Prime's lieutenants; among the three Autobots, Bumblebee's situation was exactly the same as Prowl's, and he also had to be ruled out.
Ratchet's situation was similar to Arcee's; he was indeed well-liked among the Autobots, but his combat power was not high, and he could not deter some of the unruly Autobots.
Therefore, only Ironhide could stand up at such a time and take over the command of the Autobots.
"I understand..."
Feeling the expectant gazes around him, Ironhide finally walked out of his self-reproach.
He looked solemnly at Optimus Prime's charred remains, forced himself to calm down, and began to issue orders.
"All Autobots, take away the remains of our companions, find a hidden place nearby to bury them temporarily to prevent them from being discovered by humans... Ratchet, rescue the wounded as soon as possible... all seriously injured Autobots, escort Arcee and the Leader's remains back to the Base..."
"As for the remaining Autobots, follow me to continue to Jordan... the Leader and our comrades are still waiting for us; we must go there and take back the Matrix of Leadership..."
Following Ironhide's orders, all the Autobots, including Sideswipe who had previously wanted to leave alone, took their orders and executed them earnestly.
More than forty minutes later, when the Egyptian military soldiers and the armed convoy arrived and blocked Highway 17, the Autobots had long since finished cleaning up the battlefield; they had taken away the remains of all their comrades, leaving behind only the scattered remains of the Decepticons.
