Chapter 70: Revisiting the AllSpark (Part 1)

~7 min read 1,357 words

Gambling City, Las Vegas!

Sergeant Durant chewed his gum as he rode a commuter vehicle back to the temporary base from the city.

"Sergeant, the chicks in Las Vegas are really hot and spicy; it's just great to be transferred here!"

The few people on the commuter vehicle all came from the 119th Attack Helicopter Regiment of the United States National Guard.

Durant smiled but did not answer.

Don't look at how the outside world blows the National Guard out of proportion, claiming their training is just as rigorous, that they are among the top five in the world for United States Army combat power, or the second in the world for air force combat power, and so on.

In fact, the Americans themselves know better than anyone that most of those who join the National Guard are people with connections, or they are simply doing it to escape the national conscription.

In the United States, being a soldier is a high-risk profession; the U. S. has many foreign wars and constant small battles every year. Although their equipment is advanced, fighting so many wars inevitably leads to deaths. Even worse, they offend too many people, and it is common to encounter terrorist attacks and lose a few lives, which is the hardest thing for Americans to accept.

After the Vietnam War ended, facing more and more young people refusing military service, the U. S. government was finally forced to implement a volunteer military system in 1973, the so-called national recruitment system. However, despite promising generous rewards, they still could not recruit enough high-quality soldiers. For this reason, the Yankees had to turn their sights toward illegal immigrants, even throwing out promises of green cards for service.

Even so, the United States still faces a significant shortage of high-quality soldiers every year. Therefore, behind the widely known recruitment system, the National Conscription Bureau must continue to operate another government military registration system, the so-called forced conscription.

The United States regular military is different from other countries; it operates a large number of military bases overseas, and most new recruits have to serve abroad. If they are lucky, they might be assigned to a more peaceful place, but there is a high probability of being sent directly to the Middle East. This leads some young people who meet the requirements of the government military registration system to spend money and use connections to enter the National Guard, firstly to serve domestically, and secondly because the training is easier.

Like Sergeant Durant and his group, after being transferred to Las Vegas by the state government with their regiment, because the base was still under expansion and their superiors hadn't arranged any Tasks recently, they were given quite a few opportunities to go out and relax.

And so, the few of them went to downtown Las Vegas to play for a day. Seeing that it was almost time to return to the unit, they gathered without haste and drove back.

Seeing that they were not far from the base, Sergeant Durant, who was bored and looking up at the sky in the back seat of the commuter vehicle, accidentally caught a glimpse of light spots flashing in the sky.

He originally thought it was an illusion, but after blinking, he suddenly discovered that the light spots were getting larger and larger, and he couldn't help but let out a soft "Huh": "Hey, there seems to be something in the sky!"

As soon as the words fell, he opened his mouth in surprise, and his eyes were already filled with panic.

"Enemy attack..."

Having just shouted this sentence in a panic, before the others in the vehicle could react, the light spots in the sky had clearly turned into two balls of ghostly blue, speeding toward the direction of their base not far away.

"Boom..."

"Boom..."

The next moment, accompanied by two deafening roars, Durant and the others felt a wave of heat hit them. Looking toward the base in the distance, two mushroom cloud pillars shot into the sky.

This temporary base located in the far suburbs of the gambling city, Las Vegas, was under attack!

"Oh no, hurry... hurry back to the base..."

In his panic, he had swallowed the gum he was chewing, but Durant had no mind to care about that now. He looked at the base in the distance after the attack in horror and hurriedly ordered the driver to drive faster to get back.

"Ser... Sergeant... look..."

A desperate voice came from Private Basi next to him. The still-shaken Durant subconsciously followed his finger to look at the sky, and his eyes immediately became dull.

In the sky, the two ghostly blue light spots were now getting larger and larger. Looking at their trajectory, the target was none other than their base.

But that wasn't all; as more and more ghostly blue light arrived from the sky, continuous explosions kept coming from the direction of the base.

The few people on the commuter vehicle were completely stunned. Even from this far away, they could feel the heat wave brought by the explosion; the power was imaginable.

In an instant, everyone knew in their hearts.

The base was finished!

"Boom!"

Landing heavily from mid-air, Sun Cheng raised his palm, using the Rapid-fire Machine Gun extended from his palm to take out a few American soldiers who were still trying to shoot at him not far away with a few bursts. After he confirmed that all resistance had been cleared, he stopped there with satisfaction, releasing two sets of Advanced Insect Scouts to scout toward the Hoover Dam not far away, while waiting for the arrival of Scorponok and Brawl.

"Master..."

Not long after, the beast-form Scorponok arrived first to rendezvous with Sun Cheng.

Sun Cheng nodded slightly without saying much. About a few minutes later, Brawl in his super-heavy truck form finally arrived. His speed was not even as fast as Scorponok's, but this was not surprising. With his body, counting that Railgun, he was probably over a hundred tons, so his speed naturally couldn't compare to theirs.

"Lord Brawl, the perimeter has been cleared, the AllSpark is in that base!"

Seeing that Brawl did not change back to his human form after stopping, Sun Cheng had to point to the Hoover Dam not far away and remind him.

While speaking, the Advanced Insect Scouts he had just released had already fed back a lot of data.

After Sun Cheng closed his eyes to process it for a while, his brows furrowed slightly, "The base has been newly equipped with a lot of Strong Electromagnetic Jammers. My scouts can't get close, so I don't know what the situation is inside the base!"

"Let's just fight our way in!"

Brawl grinned, revealing a ferocious smile.

Sun Cheng could see that he was very excited at this moment.

But this was not surprising. Think about how many years the AllSpark had been missing. To find it, Megatron had sent hundreds of Elite Warriors to every corner of the galaxy to search, and Brawl was one of them.

Now, seeing that he was about to find the AllSpark, and the opportunity for Evolution was not far away, it was no wonder he was so excited.

Sun Cheng nodded, just about to tell him that there should be a passage for his huge body to enter and exit nearby, but he didn't expect that the already excited Brawl had already summoned his Long Spear, held it in his hand, and fired more than a dozen shots at the dense power grid and transformer units outside the dam, before walking to the cliff not far away and jumping down first.

"Master, what should we do..."

Scorponok stepped forward and asked. Possessing intelligence himself, he had clearly seen long ago that Sun Cheng and Brawl were not that harmonious.

"You wait for me outside, try your best not to expose yourself, and remember to notify me if you discover human reinforcements arriving!"

"Yes!"

After giving him a few instructions and letting Scorponok hide nearby, Sun Cheng followed behind Brawl and jumped off the cliff.
