Chapter 755: Chameleon
Soundwave was an elder who followed Megatron from the very beginning of the Decepticon Legion's formation.
Because he had always been loyal to Megatron, he enjoyed a massive allocation of resources within the legion, second only to Shockwave and Starscream.
Although Soundwave was not skilled at combat and rarely participated directly in frontline battles, the Cassette Corps under his command had always frequented the most dangerous front lines.
During the First Civil War, facing the powerful Autobot Leader Sentinel Prime, even Megatron, who was always very conceited about his own combat power, needed the cooperation of Shockwave and a host of other subordinates to stand against Sentinel Prime head-on.
It is easy to imagine how much risk Soundwave and his Cassette Corps had to take to obtain important military intelligence from the Autobots, or to assassinate Autobot scientists and high-ranking generals, before Sentinel Prime changed his mind.
Frenzy, who had been possessed by Sun Cheng, was not among the first batch of elite agents to join the Cassette Corps.
Before they joined, the Cassette Corps had already sacrificed many batches of excellent elites.
At that time, the Awakening Technology to resurrect important combatants for the Decepticon Legion was not yet mature, and the weapons used by both sides during the first Cybertronian Civil War caused destruction far beyond that of the second civil war; therefore, many fallen Decepticon or Autobot elites could not have their remains preserved, and naturally, there was no possibility of them being awakened again.
If Sun Cheng had not killed Soundwave previously and carefully reviewed his memories during this time, he might have missed much of Cybertron's past that had long been buried in the long river of history.
After the failure of his first rebellion, Starscream secretly established an intelligence agency—the Web.
He continued to tinker behind the scenes with his grand plan to rebel against Megatron again with 100 percent of his energy, but unfortunately, Starscream failed due to being too conceited.
Starscream perhaps knew from the beginning that Megatron and the others did not trust him and were all guarding against him rebelling again.
But he conceitedly thought he had calculated everything, ignoring that none of the three Decepticon giants—Megatron, Shockwave, or Soundwave—were easy opponents to deal with.
Megatron never completely trusted Starscream, who had betrayed him, even though he did need the technology and power Starscream possessed to help him deal with Sentinel Prime.
Shockwave viewed everything with indifference; he was loyal to Megatron and would not hesitate to draw his weapon against any potential destroyer for his sake and the sake of the Decepticon Legion.
As for Soundwave, as early as when he discovered and destroyed Starscream's first rebellion, he realized that he and Starscream were already at odds to the death.
Later, when Megatron pardoned Starscream, Soundwave naturally had to guard against his retaliation.
Starscream thought the Web he had established was hidden very well, not knowing that Soundwave had received word of it shortly after the Web was formed.
The Web was destroyed by Soundwave leading the Cassette Corps with thunderous means; afterward, Starscream could not even lash out, because Soundwave had dealt with the unformed Web under the name of arresting Autobot spies.
However, judging by the Chameleon that Sun Cheng saw today, the Web that was destroyed by Soundwave back then likely still existed.
The appearance of the Chameleon at least proved one thing: Starscream had never given up his ambition and actions to establish his own intelligence agency.
Sun Cheng arrived at the conference room earlier than Dylan Gould and the others; taking advantage of the time before they arrived, he quickly reviewed the information in Soundwave's memory regarding the Web and the Chameleon, then began to ponder.
"Trindade Island was already exposed back when we were hunting down Soundwave; Starscream must know about this place... But if he wants to see me, why go through the trouble of achieving his goal through Dylan Gould? Does he still think the Chameleon can deceive my eyes..."
The Chameleon was one of the members of the intelligence organization—the Web—that Starscream had established in the past, hailing from an unknown race on Cybertron.
Cybertron is a massive planet with a volume over eight hundred times that of Earth; because it is a very rare metal planet that gave birth to Silicon-based Life, and was colonized by the Quintessons, who were very skilled at evil modifications, there was more than just the Cybertronian race on the planet.
Until the era of the Council of Ancients, there were still thousands of strange metal creatures on the planet Cybertron threatening the survival of the Cybertronians; the Predacons and the Maximals were two of the most famous races among them.
Not all Decepticons or Autobots have the potential to become spies.
The members of the Cassette Corps are only those few, and the Web was not much larger.
Before being wiped out by Soundwave, the Web only had four members, none of whom were Decepticons, but rather from some strange races that even Soundwave could not name.
The Chameleon was one of the four former members of the Web; despite its name containing 'dragon', it actually had absolutely nothing to do with dragons or even lizards.
Its form looks a bit like an arthropod on Earth called a 'centipede'; because its ability to adapt to terrain is very strong, even some Elite Warriors could very likely be deceived by it, which is how it got the name Chameleon.
Such a good intelligence-gathering expert being suddenly exposed to Sun Cheng by Starscream left him quite confused.
After Soundwave's death, his remains fell into his own hands; with Starscream's intelligence, it is impossible that he would not have thought that Sun Cheng would check the secrets in Soundwave's memory afterward.
"So why exactly?"
Frowning as he thought about it, feeling more and more confused, Sun Cheng's super hearing soon made him notice the sound of footsteps approaching from the corridor outside the conference room.
He had to push those disconnected guesses to the back of his mind for now, and he sat down seriously in the conference room on a metal chair specially prepared for Decepticons.
This conference room of his was used by the Pioneers when they usually negotiated with human nations and forces, so the conference room was not only spacious but also had chairs that even they, the Decepticons, could sit on.
"Bang! Bang!"
After two knocks on the door, Dylan Gould walked into the conference room alone.
"Lord Frenzy, sorry to disturb you!"
He looked at Sun Cheng with some fear, and the corner of his mouth seemed to twitch.
"Mr. Dylan Gould, although our life forms are different, I still have the concept of the world's richest man. However, I will say it again: the status of the world's richest man does not allow you to represent the United States. I am very curious, what kind of business do you actually want to discuss with me!"
Dylan Gould was choked by him, but no embarrassment could be seen on his face.
Just as Sun Cheng was curious about how he would convince himself, he saw Dylan Gould, as if relieved, look down at the watch worn on his left wrist without any concealment.
"Chameleon, I have already met Lord Frenzy as requested; there should be nothing left for me to do now, right!"
Huh?
Sun Cheng now had a lot of question marks in his head; he suddenly felt as if he had been playing a game of wits against thin air for a long time.
