Chapter 776: The Battle for the Black Market (Part II)
Starscream finally persuaded Onslaught to cooperate with him to jointly develop Bruticus!
He had calculated human nature; Onslaught was, by nature, a Decepticon who possessed ambition.
It was only because his personality flaws were too severe that he was gradually marginalized from the power center of the Decepticon Legion during the Cybertronian Civil War.
Onslaught was clearly very aware of the powerful combat strength of a Giant Combiner, so he was swayed by Starscream's offer to help him transform the Combaticons into a Giant Combiner, without competing with him for command.
Even if Onslaught still doubted Starscream's motives, the most he would do was increase his vigilance in private.
A Giant Combiner was a temptation he could not refuse.
Seeing Starscream soften his stance and take the initiative to promise to send over two more batches of materials, Onslaught also knew when to stop while he was ahead.
Starscream was right; the materials Onslaught obtained from Starscream were completely sufficient for him to rebuild the Combaticons.
"I understand. I will accelerate the cultivation of the Combaticons!"
Starscream, however, was not satisfied and continued to press, "Give me an accurate time. How long until I can begin the experiment?"
Onslaught was silent for a moment before answering, "Three Earth months!"
"Three Earth months?"
Starscream was not satisfied; his subordinates remaining on the planet Cybertron had already sent him information that Shockwave had led an army to set off, with the vanguard departing ahead of time, and they were expected to arrive on Earth within the next few months.
Not to mention his worry that Soundwave had left behind some contingencies and was not yet completely dead.
Just the fact that Shockwave's confidant, Astrotrain, had been lost on Earth, coupled with the state Megatron was in now, forced him to seriously consider whether he would be held accountable by Megatron or Shockwave when they arrived in the Solar System.
He needed more trump cards to ensure his own safety and status.
But after thinking for a moment, Starscream still nodded and agreed.
"Three months it is. This is my final concession!"
He looked at Onslaught sternly, the scarlet light in his eyes actually making Onslaught feel a stinging sensation.
"I know!"
Onslaught understood that this was Starscream's bottom line, and re-establishing the Combaticons who were loyal to him was also his own heart's desire.
Having obtained the answer he wanted, the sternness on Starscream's face immediately vanished.
A sinister, wicked smile reappeared on his face as he looked at Onslaught, instigating him with ill intent, "I have already promised Megatron that I will send troops to wipe out Frenzy in ten days. Are you really not considering taking action? After all, he has been using your name to stir up trouble everywhere for the past year or so, and has even gotten together with the Autobots!"
Upon hearing the name of the Autobots, a trace of anger inevitably appeared on Onslaught's face.
The civil war between the Decepticons and the Autobots had lasted for millions of years, and the enmity they had forged could only be described as a hatred as deep as the sea.
Back then, Onslaught's Combaticons had suffered heavy losses after being ambushed by the Autobots during an operation; apart from him personally escaping by relying on his powerful strength, all the others had died at the hands of the Autobots.
If one were to ask about Onslaught's attitude toward the Autobots, like most Decepticons, only hatred and loathing remained.
Although Swindle had once had his memory tampered with to become a copy warrior due to Megatron's punishment for traitors, and would continue to be cultivated to serve the Decepticon Legion even if he were sacrificed,
the other members of the Combaticons had to be resurrected by Onslaught, their Commander.
Onslaught clearly could not be said to be very satisfied with his few subordinates.
After the Combaticons were initially formed, there were no shortage of failed missions caused by those unruly guys refusing to follow his plans and orders.
However, although Onslaught had no affection for his former subordinates, he still cared very much about the Combaticons as a team that reported directly to him.
As a perfectionist who valued intelligence and tactics, after the Combaticons were wiped out, Onslaught had considered more than once cultivating a few confidants with his own hands who were loyal to him and could perfectly execute all his tactics.
Being reminded of Frenzy by Starscream again, Onslaught also frowned and began to think.
Over the past period of time, he had already learned quite a bit of distorted intelligence regarding Frenzy from the embellishing Starscream.
Onslaught had very limited understanding of those Decepticons he had only met a few times.
The reason he had helped Frenzy in the beginning was partly because he lacked men, so he had set his sights on Frenzy.
On the other hand, it was also because Onslaught had discovered that Frenzy was involved in the struggle between Soundwave and Starscream, and he himself had developed the idea of stepping in to reap the benefits as the third party.
That was why he had released a tiny bit of goodwill from a superior toward that inconspicuous Decepticon.
But plans could not keep up with changes; even Onslaught had not expected that he would soon see the legendary relic of the planet Cybertron—the AllSpark—at Sector 7.
Having come into close contact with the AllSpark, his body soon showed signs of a breakthrough.
Not long after that, Starscream attacked Onslaught in order to create the Giant Combiner—Bruticus.
In that battle, Onslaught had held the upper hand and once severely wounded Starscream, but he had no certainty of killing the other party.
However, after they each retreated, knowing Starscream's personality too well, he decided to enter stasis to complete his advancement as quickly as possible and become a true Leader-class Warrior.
It was also shortly before Onslaught decided to enter stasis that Frenzy suddenly found him, prepared to use the Memory Chip of the Autobot—Jazz—that he had obtained to make a deal with him.
This inadvertent move gave Onslaught, who had long had the idea of rebuilding the Combaticons, a good reminder.
At the time, he just considered it an early investment, dumping some Decepticon Workers and equipment he didn't think much of, as well as a Super Intelligence produced by Cybertronian civilization, all onto Frenzy.
Unexpectedly, in less than two years, judging by Starscream's meaning, the other party had actually made quite a name for himself, and had even joined forces with the Autobots a few months ago to take out his former superior—Soundwave.
"He is an interesting little guy, after all!"
Quickly suppressing the disgust for the Autobots in his heart, Onslaught did not blindly believe Starscream's rhetoric.
Swindle, who was once under his command in the Combaticons, had been deceived miserably because of Starscream.
With such a close example by his side, it would be strange if Onslaught could easily trust him.
However, he was also very interested in the current Frenzy. After a moment of thought, he replied, "In the coming period, I will focus all my efforts on cultivating the remaining members of the Combaticons. As for Frenzy, I have already said it: he has nothing to do with me. You can deal with him however you like!"
Starscream could be considered a test he had set for Frenzy; if he couldn't even pass this hurdle, there was no need to meet in the future.
To Onslaught, Frenzy was, at most, just an inconspicuous Decepticon he had met a few times and invested a little bit of resources into.
Beside him, Starscream narrowed his eyes slightly, and the arc of his mouth curved even wider.
He suddenly felt a bit of anticipation for the expression on Onslaught's face when he arrived on Earth in the future and saw the current Frenzy with his own eyes.
Provided, of course, that he could survive the coming punishment.
"No one can deceive Starscream, no one!"
The scarlet light in his eyes flickered; this time, Starscream decided not to hold back.
