Chapter 809: Goldbug (Part II)

~7 min read 1,205 words

Bumblebee's consciousness recovered faster than imagined; not long after, the blue light radiating from his eyes had already vanished.

Replacing it was a face that looked somewhat bewildered!

"Bumblebee, welcome back!"

Optimus Prime saw that Bumblebee had only just awakened and had not yet fully processed the memories within the Core.

Hearing Optimus Prime's voice, he subconsciously turned his head to look at Optimus Prime.

And Optimus Prime merely walked before him with a smile, reaching out to pat his shoulder lightly, "I am Optimus Prime, welcome back, Bumblebee!"

"Bumblebee, is that my name?"

Bumblebee was silent for a moment before shaking his head: "I don't like that name!"

He looked at his own hands, the golden color on his arms and chest armor giving him a sudden inspiration, "Goldbug... call me Goldbug instead!"

All the Autobots in the Laboratory froze in unison, and Ratchet even let out a soft sigh.

He already understood what had happened to Bumblebee!

The reason Autobots had always been very resistant to Awakening fallen Autobots was, aside from the fact that the vast majority of Autobots worried their privacy would be leaked due to the propaganda of certain individuals with ulterior motives.

There was another more important reason, which was that when Awakening a fallen Autobot, it was possible for the Autobot to undergo a personality mutation after waking up.

Personality mutation, as the name suggests, means that when certain deceased Autobots are re-Awakened, even if they still possess all the memories of their former self, they will still, in this process of defying life and death, give birth to a personality vastly different from before.

For example, the former Bumblebee, although appearing very professional when executing a Task, all the Autobots who truly knew him knew that Bumblebee's personality was very flighty—both humorous and reckless, without a brain.

The former Bumblebee's personality led to failure in quite a few Tasks, and even implicated his companions.

Consequently, slowly, he who loved making friends the most and indeed had many friends, began to be gradually shunned by those Autobot comrades.

They were unwilling to go on Tasks with Bumblebee because he was a dangerous and unreliable comrade.

It could be said that the reason Bumblebee often went on Tasks alone later was entirely due to his past experiences.

Although he had indeed received a lesson and changed quite a bit, in essence, Bumblebee was still that same Bumblebee.

And now, the one re-Awakened by the Autobots, although inheriting the vast majority of Bumblebee's memories before heading to the Moon, had a personality that was worlds apart.

He looked more steady and had become much more silent, forming a stark contrast with the original Bumblebee.

No Autobot knew what exactly had happened to him during the process of Bumblebee being Awakened.

This kind of unpredictable change made the hearts of all the Autobots present sink in unison.

Fortunately, just when all the Autobots, including Ratchet and Optimus Prime, did not know how to speak.

Bumblebee, who had completely digested the memories within the Core and been re-Awakened.

Oh no, now he should be addressed as Goldbug.

Goldbug had completely digested the memories of his former self, and combined with what was happening to him now, this guy who seemed to have become much smarter also figured out what had happened to himself.

"... So I have been re-Awakened... I see, it looks like the Task I was sent to the Moon to execute... failed..."

Murmuring softly, Goldbug moved his body slightly, feeling the power within his frame that was completely inconsistent with his former memories; he was very satisfied with this brand-new body.

Soon walking before Optimus Prime, Goldbug gave him a solemn military salute, "Leader, I have disappointed you. It seems I sacrificed myself during the process of scouting the Moon. Thank you all very much for Awakening me again!"

Although his personality had undergone a series of changes due to some unknown reasons during the Awakening process.

However, the memories of his former self were still influencing Goldbug; he was still the same as Bumblebee, or perhaps even more outstanding than Bumblebee, a qualified spy and agent.

The changes in Goldbug made Optimus Prime and the others very uncomfortable.

Ironhide opened his mouth; having a very good personal friendship with Bumblebee, he wanted to say something, but when the words reached his lips, looking at Goldbug standing before Optimus Prime meticulously, like a Warrior waiting for the Leader to issue orders, he swallowed the words back down.

At this moment, he had an extremely strange feeling about Bumblebee.

"I finally understand now why those guys were against Awakening Technology!"

He muttered to himself, but no Autobot paid him any mind.

Optimus Prime was the first to come back to his senses, looking at this solemn-faced young Autobot before him, not knowing how to speak for a moment.

After hesitating for a while, he nodded at him with a smile, "It is good to be back. No matter what name you go by in the future, you are our close comrade, Goldbug!"

"Yes!"

Goldbug withdrew his hand, his expression solemn.

"Leader, can you tell me how much time has passed since I headed to the Moon? If convenient, I hope to know everything that has happened during this period so that I can complete this missing segment of memory as soon as possible!"

The former Bumblebee might have tried his best to remain silent and capable in front of outsiders, but Autobots familiar with him knew that was just an act.

But the current Goldbug, even though he had just been Awakened, radiated a kind of capability and maturity from his very bones that was vastly different from before.

"It's as if our little brother from the past has suddenly grown up!"

Ironhide looked at Bumblebee with a very complex expression; with his fiery temper, he had cleaned up after Bumblebee—who was also an adjutant to Optimus Prime—more than once in the past.

In his view from before, Bumblebee was just a child who hadn't grown up; his only specialty and ability might have been intelligence gathering, but only when alone.

Otherwise, once someone chatted with him, that mouth would be incessant, even exposing himself during a Task.

Optimus Prime had the same feeling as Ironhide, looking at this Goldbug who had suddenly matured so much.

For a moment, he even had a thought, "This is not bad either!"

Goldbug was still waiting for his answer with a solemn face; Optimus Prime could only clear away some messy thoughts in his head for the moment, and after organizing his wording slightly, he began to explain to him.

"Alright, Goldbug. Regarding everything that happened after you headed to the Moon, let us start from there!"

PS:

This segment is not something I fabricated. I remember in the Transformers animated series I watched in the past, there was indeed a plot where Bumblebee was left with only a head, changed to a new body, and renamed Goldbug, with even his personality changing.

I don't like Goldbug much, so I used his other name—Goldbug.

Thanks to the book friend "Person Who Prays" for the tip and support, thank you very much.
