Chapter 82
Above the sky, accompanied by the whistling of a dense formation of fighter jets, the survivors hiding everywhere within the Base let out astonishing cheers.
"It's our planes..."
Captain William smiled excitedly.
Sergeant Robert hurriedly picked up his communicator and took the initiative to call for support, "Ground calling Colorful Cat, Ground calling Colorful Cat... There is a very important person here who requires priority protection from you..."
This statement was no exaggeration; not to mention the friendship between Sam and the Autobots, that alone was enough to make him a link between humans and those extraterrestrial beings.
Just the fact that the Autobots had entrusted the important 【AllSpark】 to him for safekeeping at this moment—even if only considering his status as the temporary custodian of the 【AllSpark】—calling him an important person was no lie.
"Colorful Cat received, I have relayed to the rear to arrange a helicopter evacuation for you... Please release smoke as soon as possible to provide your location to my team..."
"Received, we are about to release green smoke to provide our location. If you spot a Reaper Drone over the Base, please be sure to destroy it... I repeat, we are about to release green smoke to provide our location. If you spot a Reaper Drone over the Base, please be sure to destroy it..."
Colorful Cat was one of the subordinate squadrons of the 19th Air Wing. As the permanent garrison force at Area 51, although they were currently equipped entirely with F-15E fighter jets, this model was a variant specifically modified by the McDonnell Douglas Corporation based on the F-15. While retaining its powerful air combat capabilities, McDonnell Douglas also enhanced its ground-attack capabilities; it would be no exaggeration to call it the best two-seat supersonic fighter-bomber in the world today.
Clearly, the U. S. military had already learned of the poor performance of that National Guard F-16 squadron when facing Sun Cheng not long ago. To avoid repeating the previous tragedy, in addition to dispatching a Raptor Squadron that had already received six of the latest F-22s from Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado to provide support, the guards at Area 51 had also deployed their main force.
"This is bad..."
Upon seeing a sky full of F-15 fighter jets flying in, Sun Cheng's heart immediately sank.
Because he had done some intensive study before, he could now be considered quite knowledgeable about the air force equipment of various countries.
Not long ago, he had just fought a battle with a squadron of F-16s from the United States National Guard and had barely managed to cope, let alone deal with this main workhorse of the United States Air Force, which had combat capabilities even superior to the F-16.
Unlike the F-16 series, which focused more on multi-role capabilities, the F-15 possessed greater horsepower and payload capacity. At the same time, it was a heavy fighter designed specifically for high-altitude interception and air-to-air combat, so it possessed excellent maneuverability and dogfighting capabilities. Looking globally, apart from the F-22 Raptor that had only begun to be equipped by the U. S. military in the last two years, few other fighter jets could suppress the F-15.
The maneuverability Sun Cheng was so proud of was not worth mentioning in front of the F-15.
This fighter jet had a theoretical top speed of up to 2.5 Mach, and even in combat, it could accelerate to over 2 Mach in less time than an F-16.
However, conflict would not simply pass by just because one side was unwilling; soon, Sun Cheng captured the electromagnetic waves of multiple fire-control radars illuminating him.
"Damn it..."
Detecting four AIM-7M "Sparrow" Missiles heading straight for him, Sun Cheng had no choice but to abandon his strafing of the 【AllSpark】 escort team and deal with the threat from the sky.
The Core had long since identified the electromagnetic fluctuations of the dozen or so F-15 fighter jets circling in the air, so Sun Cheng did not ascend to high altitude, because he knew that once he climbed into the airspace very suitable for the opponent to fight, he would be hunted by the eagle flock. Continuing to hover at low altitude near the ground would instead make the opponent wary.
Relying on his flexible maneuverability, Sun Cheng led the four Sparrow Missiles locked onto him in circles around the base for quite a while before suddenly transforming into his human form and landing next to a U. S. M60 Tank, baiting them into destroying the wrong target.
"Lord Onslaught, I need help..."
Onslaught happened to arrive at the base at this moment. As soon as Sun Cheng ascended back into the air and saw him arrive, he immediately moved quickly toward him to ask for help.
This guy waved his hand, grabbed a Sidewinder Missile, and then brutally threw it into mid-air to detonate it.
He first glanced at another battlefield not far away, where Megatron and Blackout, who had originally been suppressing the Autobots, had fallen into a bitter struggle after the United States Air Force arrived.
Onslaught was not in a hurry to go over and help. He directly summoned his weapon, aimed it at the sky, and fired a few shots at the three F-15 fighter jets that had been chasing Sun Cheng, before asking, "Where is the 【AllSpark】? Why can I no longer feel its fluctuations..."
"It's with the humans... The Autobots seem to have done something to the 【AllSpark】..."
Sun Cheng had just finished answering when, due to a momentary lapse in attention, he took a Sidewinder Missile to his back; the explosion immediately caused him to fall from mid-air to the ground.
Fortunately, the explosive yield of the Sidewinder was not large, and although it left some scars on his chassis, it was not enough to severely injure him.
Compared to Sun Cheng, Onslaught was also caught off guard for a moment and was likewise hit in the waist by a Sidewinder Missile. However, after the missile exploded, there was not a single crack visible on his chassis; it seemed that his chassis strength had improved again during that previous, not-entirely-successful Evolution.
"Annoying flies..."
Although he noticed that the Combat Missiles fired by the human fighter jets could not cause him harm, it was not the Decepticon way to let these troubles from the sky continue to harass him without resolving them.
Immediately, Onslaught raised his weapon and began firing wildly at the sky.
His weapon had immense power; even a human tank could not withstand a single shot, let alone an F-15 fighter jet.
Soon, an F-15 fighter jet hovering at a low altitude of less than a hundred meters failed to dodge in time, was hit by a shot from Onslaught, and immediately exploded in mid-air.
For a moment, those F-15 fighter jets that had been besieging Sun Cheng, not daring to take his weapon fire head-on, pulled up their altitude one after another. However, not a single one retreated; instead, they targeted Onslaught and Sun Cheng with even more ferocious momentum. Soon, a torrential rain of missiles was fired at the two of them from all directions.
PS:
Sorry, I owe two more chapters.
I am not very good at writing combat; after all, I have never written this kind of literature.
Last night, I looked for a sci-fi oriented book, wanting to learn how others write combat, but I still didn't learn much.
Because I have no ink in my head, these past few days I have been stuck on this combat plot—which another author could probably finish in two days—to the point where it takes me one or two hours to write even a hundred words.
These two thousand words, I have been working on since after eleven o'clock last night until now, and I have pushed everything to be rewritten twice, yet I still can't find any feeling.
