Chapter 949: The Sky Opens Wide (Part II)

~7 min read 1,291 words

Optimus Prime stopped fighting, and Sentinel Prime tacitly refrained from entangling with him again.

The two Autobot leaders stood apart, staring at each other coldly.

Looking at this former mentor across from him, Optimus Prime felt for the first time in his life that this teacher was so much of a stranger.

"I refuse!"

He calmly rejected Sentinel Prime's proposal, without anger, without resentment.

"I am indeed not a qualified leader, but I believe the peace that the Autobots pursue is absolutely not built upon the destruction of another civilization."

"Perhaps the path is winding, but I will lead the Autobots to find another way to coexist peacefully with the people of Earth."

"As for Cybertron, the sins we have committed are already enough; let it be. Now, only the great power of time or the rebirth of the Creators can allow it to slowly recover!"

Sentinel Prime watched the determined Optimus Prime and sighed.

Just as Optimus Prime thought he was about to say something, four jet thrusters appeared behind Sentinel Prime's calves.

In an instant, he charged right in front of him, and at the same time, a ferocious face was almost pressed against his own.

"Then, go to your death!"

"Zzzzt!"

The long blade pierced through the shield Optimus Prime had instinctively raised to block in front of him, and the tip of the blade even stabbed into his arm.

"Stubborn!"

A rare flash of anger surged onto Optimus Prime's face; the metal joints on his pierced left arm crackled, locking the long blade firmly in place.

He slammed his head with all his might into Sentinel Prime, who was within arm's reach, emitting a violent collision sound.

"Boom!"

From the heads of the two Autobot leaders, shattered fragments splashed everywhere.

Optimus Prime let out a muffled groan, but Sentinel Prime was in an even worse state; his brain had suddenly suffered an impact, and his arm instinctively loosened.

Optimus Prime clearly recovered faster than him, violently raising his arm to swing his Heavy Sword, hacking fiercely at Sentinel Prime's left shoulder, which was holding the shield.

"Zzzzt!"

Although the Heavy Sword met some resistance, it still completely severed one of his arms.

"You're courting death!"

The massive amount of information fed back from his damaged body instantly allowed Sentinel Prime to recover from the negative state of his brain injury.

He roared, first glancing with some disbelief at his own arm that had been severed, with electric sparks still bursting from the stump.

Immediately, Sentinel Prime angrily attempted to pull out his weapon and hack at him again.

Unfortunately, the metal joints that had split from Optimus Prime's arm had locked his long blade tight.

Sentinel Prime was decisive; after just a brief attempt confirmed he could not immediately break free from Optimus Prime, he decisively let go of the long blade.

Seeing him reach out with his palm to summon that Cosmic Rust Gun which had nearly killed him, Optimus Prime naturally would not allow it.

Quickly closing in again, Optimus Prime swung his Heavy Sword toward Sentinel Prime's arm.

Sentinel Prime's expression changed drastically, and he hurriedly bent his arm to retract his palm.

"Optimus Prime, do you really want to fight me to the death..."

He was a hero of his time after all; even though he hated Optimus Prime to the core at this moment, once Sentinel Prime saw he was beginning to fall into a disadvantage, his attitude began to soften.

It was just a pity that he was facing a student who had completely lost faith in him and felt chilled to the bone.

"Boom!"

Optimus Prime's shield slammed heavily onto Sentinel Prime's forehead, immediately leaving dozens of cracks on his head.

Countless tiny fragments splashed everywhere.

Watching his former mentor, whom he had knocked down, stumble and fall to the ground.

Only then did Optimus Prime pull out the long blade that had been stuck in his shield and arm, throwing it far away.

"Teacher, give up... what you are doing will only cause us Autobots to lose more possibilities... and among these possibilities, perhaps hope exists..."

"Hmph!"

Sentinel Prime glanced at him angrily, the unease in his heart growing a little heavier.

His student's strength had improved far too quickly; clearly, when the battle had just begun not long ago, Optimus Prime's power was still inferior to his own, and he lacked combat experience against a Leader-class Warrior.

But in such a short time, the thing Sentinel Prime feared most had happened.

Optimus Prime's strength, speed, and other aspects had all gained a massive boost under the stimulation of the Matrix of Leadership.

It even gave him the feeling that the other had reached the same level as him, or perhaps even surpassed it.

As for combat experience, from being crushed at the beginning, to struggling to cope, then to being slightly at a disadvantage, and finally to completely occupying the upper hand.

The speed of Optimus Prime's growth was such that even Sentinel Prime had to admit he had not misjudged him.

"More possibilities, you say..."

Sentinel Prime suddenly looked up at the sky, "I'm afraid you won't live to see that day arrive... because for Earth from here on out, only one possibility exists!"

"Zzzzt!"

As if in response to him, the blue, water-ripple-like circular hole that appeared over Cairo stopped expanding after reaching a certain size.

The layer of water-like blue light curtain covering the hole grew brighter and brighter, while also beginning to become somewhat distorted, even showing anomalies.

Following his gaze, Optimus Prime also looked up at the sky.

Soon, his expression became incomparably grave.

"Teacher, you are playing with fire with the lives of the Autobots!"

With Optimus Prime's discernment, how could he not see that the circular hole in the sky was a portal.

These portals were clearly different from the one in Xintiebao that led directly to the Moon; they were a type of ultra-long-distance transport device.

And the target Sentinel Prime was attempting to transport was likely the Autobots, and specifically the Autobots on the distant Cybertronian satellite, light-years away from Earth.

Back during the civil war, although the Autobots had also used space bridges, they had once managed to put the Decepticons in a very sorry state during the war.

But the furthest distance they could transport at that time, when converted according to the current units of measurement on Earth, was only a few tens of thousands of kilometers.

At the very least, Optimus Prime could not imagine how Sentinel Prime could transport Autobots from several light-years away to Earth.

Sentinel Prime glanced at him coldly; Optimus Prime not taking the opportunity to strike hard and finish him off in one go was his greatest mistake.

But this was clearly beneficial to himself, yet it was also beneficial to Optimus Prime.

At least at this moment, Sentinel Prime knew that his interests were the same as those of his young student.

The ripples on the azure circular hole above in the sky began to churn, as if something wanted to rush through from the other side of the hole.

Optimus Prime and Sentinel Prime were both waiting patiently, tacitly stopping their fight to look up at the sky.

It did not make them wait too long, as the azure ripples on the circular hole fluctuated violently.

Very quickly, a mass of distorted light and shadow broke through the circular hole and fell down from mid-air.

PS:

Sorry everyone, with the Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, and because an elder in my family passed away not long ago, time has been very tight this week.

Once my younger sister and brother-in-law arrive tomorrow, I should be able to resume normal updates.
