Chapter 95: The Internal Message from XP Home

~7 min read 1,372 words

"Master, reconnaissance-type Decepticon—Hanwei, reporting to you..."

Having activated Hanwei once more, Sun Cheng controlled the two small Decepticons to each walk a few steps. Just as he was about to continue his experiments, he unexpectedly heard a familiar musical melody coming from the table; it was his phone ringing.

Bringing the phone closer to take a look, his gaze flickered slightly. He pondered for a moment before answering the call.

"... Hello, A-Cheng, did something happen over at the school?"

It was that same familiar young female voice, gentle yet carrying a hint of urgency and concern, which made his heart warm involuntarily.

This woman was none other than his older sister—Ye Qi.

"Sis, don't overthink it. I didn't explain clearly just now; I applied for startup funds from the school this semester to work on a startup project. I've been too busy lately, I'm afraid even if you came, I wouldn't have time to keep you company..."

Although only a short few minutes had passed in the real world, Sun Cheng had already spent nearly two months in the other world.

With such a long period of settling and reflection, he had long since lost his previous panic, and even his tone was calm and gentle, leaving no trace of excess emotional fluctuation.

Perhaps the person on the other end of the phone really didn't sense anything this time; after pestering him to chat for a few more sentences while half-believing him, she finally hung up the phone.

"Troublesome..."

After hanging up, Sun Cheng frowned and tossed the phone to the side.

Until the end, he hadn't received a definitive answer from his sister; it looked like she had made up her mind to come and see him.

"Tomorrow, I will completely resolve the trouble here in Nandu..."

His gaze then turned to the two reconnaissance-type Decepticons that were sitting quietly on the table because they hadn't received his orders. Sun Cheng felt determined, and immediately stopped worrying about these trivial matters in reality, continuing to try and manipulate the two reconnaissance-type Decepticons.

The night was deep, and time flew by inadvertently; soon it was time for the dormitory lights to go out.

The sudden dimming of the light in the room awakened Sun Cheng, who had been fully focused on exploring the performance of the ultrathin laptop that Hanwei had transformed into.

After rubbing his eyes and forcing himself to adapt to the darkness in the room, he subconsciously looked at the status bar in the bottom right corner of the ultrathin laptop, only to discover that Hanwei could actually still maintain an online state by capturing wireless network signals.

"Interesting!"

With great interest, he temporarily stopped exploring the performance of the ultrathin laptop Hanwei had become and began trying to use it to surf the internet.

He first tried opening a browser and randomly clicked on a few large domestic portal websites, discovering that the internet speed was not only stable but also very fast.

After playing for a while and verifying the internet speed, Sun Cheng suddenly remembered that the last time he returned to reality, he had used the name 【Cybertron Studio】 to upload his new XP system—which he had simplified and optimized from his previous small-scale tinkering—to the largest XP system home in the country.

He immediately opened the website and clicked in. Just as he was about to log into his publishing account to check the results from the backend, his peripheral vision caught a glimpse of that familiar icon in a recommendation corner near the bottom of the homepage.

This unexpected discovery surprised Sun Cheng quite a bit.

Although XP System Home had been declining in recent years following Microsoft's cessation of support for the XP system, a lean camel is still bigger than a horse; it was, after all, once the largest operating system exchange and recommendation website in the country. It was very difficult for works uploaded by studios or software to XP Home to gain the website's favor and be arranged for a homepage recommendation without a certain amount of clicks and downloads.

He couldn't help but click in to take a look, and a smile soon appeared on his face.

"Pure Version XP System, Release Date: April 14, 2016, Publisher: Cybertron Studio, Review Editor: Lan Type 094, Recommendation Index: 5 stars."

It had been uploaded for only two short days, yet he hadn't expected the downloads to have already exceeded 1,700. Looking at the comment section below the release page, it was unexpectedly quite lively.

"Damn, good stuff. Cybertron has god-tier technology. An old system from over a decade ago, yet it's optimized to be on par with the latest version of Win10. Must recommend!"

"All the redundant functional plugins have been deleted. The black-hearted Microsoft really did stuff too many useless things into the system. After being completely simplified, it's simply heaven-defying. Highly recommend!"

"I've always used XP. After buying a new computer a while ago and switching to Win7, I was uncomfortable in every way. I was just about to switch back to the old version of XP when a friend recommended this one. After using it, it's simply smooth as silk, like, like, like..."

"It lives up to the name 'Pure Version'. All the useless stuff has been deleted, almost all of which are things normal people don't use. Cybertron Studio is forcibly extending the life of XP for another ten years!"

After all, it had only been uploaded for two days, so the comment section couldn't be that lively; there were only a hundred or so comments in total.

However, Sun Cheng patiently read through them all and discovered that 99% of the comments were various likes, recommendations, and positive reviews. The few complaints he saw were clearly just nitpicking—they were just some people working in programming complaining that he had deleted some plugins and official work software they needed. There wasn't a single one that was purely hating for the sake of hating.

Discovering that this Pure Version XP System he uploaded seemed to have a trend of becoming a hit, Sun Cheng's heart stirred. He quickly logged into his publishing account and, sure enough, saw the internal message sent to him by the official XP Home.

"Dear publisher, hello. I am the review editor for XP Home—Lan Type 094. After our testing, our website believes that the work you have published possesses value for signing and promotion. Please contact the signing editor's OO as soon as you see this internal message. XP Home signing editor: Er Er. Contact method OO: 9191072532."

Sure enough, XP Home had sent him an internal message to contact him, but what made Sun Cheng curious was that such a privately modified, non-copyrighted work actually had value for signing and promotion?

You have to know that the reason he uploaded this Pure Version XP System in the first place was, firstly, because he felt it was a waste to only use such good stuff himself, and secondly, he didn't lack the intention of advertising his 【Cybertron Studio】 to gain some popularity and attention. He hadn't expected it to lead to these things.

After pondering for a moment, Sun Cheng thought that since he uploaded it to earn popularity for his Cybertron Studio anyway, if he could get a recommendation from XP Home, it would save him a lot of effort and certainly wouldn't be a bad thing.

Immediately, he logged into his long-unused Panda OO account, entered the account of the signing editor 'Er Er', added his information to the remarks, and sent a friend request.

PS:

1. Regarding readers asking if 'Unicron' and 'Primus' will appear, I can tell you very definitely that they have already been arranged in the outline. The former will appear in the plot of Transformers 4, while the latter will be much later. After all, these two guys are arguably the strongest in the 【Transformers Universe】, and once they appear, it means this book has reached its climax.

2. Thanks to readers 'Yi Gan Da Yan Qiang', 'Xi Yue Liu Shang', 'Wu Mian Mai Zui', 'ymhh', 'gp7167', and 'Bu Ding Zhai' for their tips. Your careful care is the motivation for me to keep writing.
