Chapter 966: Taking the Blame

~7 min read 1,400 words

In southern Africa, within the borders of some obscure little country.

Optimus Prime fired a Plasma Cannon, blasting a Quintesson soldier who had attempted to ambush him into debris.

However, his face was gloomy at this moment.

Two kilometers away, in what had been a primitive tribe, the raging fire had still not been completely extinguished.

In the air, besides the scorched smell of burning, there was also a rich scent of roasted meat.

And the source of this scent...

"A sin!"

Ratchet sighed, his chassis covered in smoke stains visible everywhere.

Ratchet did not make an effort to clean them off, which showed his terrible mood at the moment.

Sideswipe stood to the side without a word, but looking at the Triangular Cross Blade he swung from time to time, one knew his mood was equally unsettled.

Optimus Prime's lips moved, but in the end, he did not say a word.

Ratchet was right; the human tragedy that had occurred here was indeed a sin.

And this sin was one that they, the Autobots, had committed.

After all, even though Sentinel Prime had already been personally executed by Optimus Prime, he was, after all, the former Leader of the Autobots.

It was Sentinel Prime who had opened the portal, transporting these Quintesson soldiers—who were filled with desires for destruction and slaughter, and were even more evil and bellicose than the Decepticons—to Earth.

So even though he was dead now, this responsibility still fell upon the Autobots; they couldn't shake it off even if they wanted to.

After a long while, Optimus Prime finally ordered: "Quickly clear the battlefield and bury the remains on the spot. We are preparing to depart for the next suspicious area!"

This was already the sixteenth day since the end of the Cairo Battle, and the thirteenth day since the Autobots had set out to clear all remaining Decepticon clone warriors and Quintesson soldiers within Africa.

In the past thirteen days, the Autobots had truly recalled what war and inhumanity were.

The Decepticon clone warriors were slightly better; they were also cruel and evil, and would toy with and slaughter weak humans on a whim.

But compared to the Quintesson soldiers, they couldn't be called pure as a little white flower, but they were still left in the dust by more than a few blocks.

The Quintesson soldiers truly taught those young Autobots who didn't know the cruel history of Cybertron's past colonization a good lesson, letting them know what "locusts passing through" and "leaving no one alive" meant.

They were transported here by the teleportation devices Sentinel Prime had activated above some cities in Africa.

Once they arrived on Earth from the portal, the Quintesson soldiers, who were not under any restraint, began to destroy everything aimlessly across the African continent.

They would destroy every building in their sight and kill every living thing they saw.

In the minds of the Quintesson soldiers, there seemed to be no respect for life or anything beautiful at all.

They were like pure killing machines; their actual combat power was not much higher than the Decepticon clone warriors, but they were more brutal and more fearless of death.

Over these days, in the blink of an eye, the Autobots had already had four or five skirmishes with the clone warriors.

Yet no matter how much Optimus Prime and the others held back, they hadn't been able to capture a single Quintesson soldier.

These guys severely lacked respect for life, and didn't even care about their own lives at all.

Once they discovered the situation was unfavorable to their side, they would choose to use a brutal self-detonation method to inflict as much heavy damage on the opponent as possible.

The result was predictable: the Autobots had gained quite a few wounded as a result.

And the intelligence they wanted most, they hadn't been able to get a single bit of from the Quintesson soldiers.

Such troublesome enemies made even the Autobots, who had been in a bitter war with the Decepticons for millions of years, have to frown.

"I thought the Decepticons were the most evil creatures in the world, but I didn't expect there to be an existence even more evil than them!"

Hound took a puff of his strange Electronic Cigar and exhaled a long string of smoke rings.

However, his words did indeed make many of the Autobots present nod in agreement.

Many of the Autobots here were veterans who had participated in the civil war, and many of them had seen the brutality of the Decepticons with their own eyes.

But once the Decepticons were compared to the Quintesson soldiers, it was truly a case of the lesser of two evils; the difference was not just a little bit.

Just as Optimus Prime was about to say something, he suddenly looked up at the sky.

High in the distant sky, more than a dozen black dots flew out abruptly from the southwest.

"Rocket, dodge!"

He sighed and gave the order, and many Autobots frowned.

This was an attack from human forces, but they could not fight back.

In the past half-month, the Quintesson soldiers and Decepticon clone warriors had almost ravaged Africa into a mess.

Especially the Quintesson soldiers; they destroyed every city and town they saw, and didn't even spare the remote tribes they encountered.

The number of humans who died at their hands was at least a million, if not six or seven million.

Perhaps to other countries on Earth, Africa was just a poor land.

Many countries even looked down on Africans.

But no matter how poor, lazy, or rotten Africans were, they were still members of humanity.

After entering the new century, such large-scale slaughter of humans, where the other side of the massacre was aliens from outer space.

Under a psychology known as "the rabbit dies and the fox grieves," hostility toward aliens began to brew among human nations.

The Autobots bore the brunt of it; in the past dozen days, they had to run around Africa to wipe out the Decepticon clone warriors and Quintesson soldiers who were still causing destruction.

At the same time, as long as they appeared and were noticed by the local human national forces, from local tribal militias to national armies, and even mercenary organizations and foreign legions from several European countries, they would all very tacitly move out to use weapons to drive them out of their territory.

Yet the Autobots couldn't fight back, because the tragedy in Africa now stemmed from their former Leader—Sentinel Prime.

As a result, they were now like rats crossing the street.

They were clearly doing good deeds, clearly helping human nations clear the dangers within Africa.

But now it was as if everyone treated the Autobots, who had been active in Africa recently, as enemies.

Behind all of this, it seemed as if an invisible hand was pushing everything.

And as for who that black hand behind the scenes was, Optimus Prime already had a faint guess.

"Only the Americans? There might be shadows of those human nations in Europe behind this as well."

Turning his head to look toward the northwest, Optimus Prime's expression was somewhat gloomy.

Jiazhong collected and organized all the intelligence from the Cairo Battle; the European Allied Navy and the U. S. military were attacked by a group of Decepticons including Blitzwing, with the former being almost completely wiped out, and the latter faring no better, losing hundreds of fighter jets, with several capital ships either sunk or heavily damaged, both suffering heavy losses.

The Decepticons are not burdened by too much debt, and they simply do not care about being hated by humanity.

It is a pity that most of them are currently lurking on the Moon, and those left on Earth are just some replica Warriors whose casualties no one cares about.

Because of their previous heavy losses, the several powerful nations of Europe and America could not find a target for retaliation for the time being.

Frenzy and the others hiding in South America have already displayed nation-ending destructive power more than once, and they cannot leave the Black Market for the time being.

It seems this grudge has been inherited by the Autobots, who come from the same planet as the Decepticons.
