Chapter 8: Picking Up Another Man
It was clearly a very sharp question, but paired with Ruan Mian's palm-sized face, her slightly tilted head with fine strands of hair, and a pair of watery, large eyes as pure as a sea of stars.
One look, and it was as if she were about to swallow a person whole.
"Is it that hard to answer?"
Her voice was very pleasant, not overly delicate, but just the right amount of crisp and sweet, instantly pulling his scattered thoughts back.
"Ahem."
Realizing he had lost his composure, he coughed lightly, turned his face away, lowered his eyes, and fixed his gaze on the dishes before him.
He thought he had concealed it well, but the red that quietly crept up his earlobes betrayed him completely.
"I promised you that I would not do anything to hurt you."
Ruan Mian blinked her eyes, her curled eyelashes fluttering.
Was that how it was agreed upon at the time?
It seems so~
She smiled, her eyelashes curving into a crescent moon, and only then did Lu Yi notice a tiny dimple at the corner of her mouth.
Drunk before even drinking.
"As long as you remember, then I'll sell Roasted Sweet Potato and Fried Fries; these two things shouldn't be recognizable as being made from plants."
After finishing, she happily took the half-piece of Roasted Sweet Potato and headed toward the kitchen area, watching her cheerful retreating back.
Lu Yi's brows furrowed, his eyes stained with a worry he hadn't even noticed himself.
How could she be so simple, so easily trusting of others?
What if he were lying?
What if he had other intentions?
She really would still be counting the money for someone after being sold by them.
Truly foolish.
He shook his head helplessly and picked up a piece of stir-fried sweet potato leaves to put in his mouth; it was so delicious that he had never felt eating was such a wonderful thing.
Seeing as she had made him so many delicious things, he would just have to reluctantly protect her!
Tsk...
Ruan Mian still had some vines left from the sweet potatoes she had planted before; she continued to channel her ability, and soon the leaves became numerous and lush, and the sweet potatoes underneath also grew plump and full.
She first roasted a few Roasted Sweet Potatoes to put on the Light Brain to sell.
However, this small cubicle belonging to the kitchen area was too small; after planting the sweet potatoes, there was no room left to plant anything else besides one tomato plant.
Just as Lu Yi said, it was impossible for her to openly plant things outside; it would be strange if they weren't coveted.
Therefore, the most urgent task was that she felt she should go find some containers that could be used to plant things.
In short, flowerpots.
But fortunately, she was in a junkyard, where there was all sorts of messy stuff; finding a few larger containers shouldn't be difficult, right?
"Do you need me to do anything?"
Turning her head, Lu Yi was standing at the doorway; for some reason, she actually saw a bit of awkwardness and a bit of anticipation in him.
Combined with the things planted inside, Ruan Mian could roughly understand why he was like this.
Others have "tempered steel turning into soft fingers."
He has "plants turning him into soft fingers"!
Ruan Mian nudged her chin, smiled toward the tomato vines climbing on the steel pipes, and said, "If you're free, help me pick the tomatoes."
As she spoke, she was the first to pick a small, bright red tomato and tossed it toward him, scaring him into hurriedly reaching out to catch it.
As if treating it like a treasure.
"Be careful."
Seeing him like this, Ruan Mian couldn't help but laugh out loud; her crisp, bell-like laughter seemed to kiss his ears.
The tomato in his hand even became a bit hot to the touch.
"It's fine, if it falls on the ground, it can still be eaten after washing; just pick the red, fully ripe tomatoes like this, is that okay?"
After giving him instructions, she stepped outside, and Lu Yi was stunned for a moment, "Where are you going?"
"Me? Just wandering around nearby to find some things, I'll be back soon."
His voice came from behind her, the tone a bit stiff, but what he said was somewhat unexpected.
"Watch your safety."
A hypocritical guy.
Digging, digging, and digging in the big junkyard, she dug up a big basin and a big him.
When Ruan Mian looked at the man lying in a pile of debris, she was a bit speechless.
Who on earth said that men are trash?
It really does make sense.
Otherwise, how could she have picked up a man again and again?
However, her experience from reading widely told her that one must never randomly pick up wild men outside, or one will suffer retribution.
She balanced the big basin on her head, lightened her footsteps, and intended to sneakily take a detour.
Unfortunately, the idea was good, but as soon as she took a step, her whole body was unable to move.
No matter how hard she tried, her feet seemed to be nailed to the spot, unable to move even half an inch.
A somewhat hoarse and low male voice sounded from behind, "Come over, do me a favor."
It seemed to have pulled at a wound, as he gasped for air after finishing the sentence.
Although it was extremely quiet, she heard it too.
"You, I, did you do this to me?"
Ruan Mian struggled to turn her head, trying hard to look at the man behind her, but her peripheral vision could only barely catch a silhouette.
"Do you want me to save you? Then let me go first, otherwise how can I move?"
Did she have to save him from a distance?
She heard him cough once, and finally, Ruan Mian's body was able to move.
Just as she was thinking about whether she should run or run, the man's voice sounded again.
"You cannot run away."
Sob, sob, sob, intimidation, pure and simple intimidation!!!
"I wasn't thinking of running."
Carrying her large basin with a mix of anger she dared not express, she cautiously approached him.
Only then did she see the man's appearance clearly.
It was an incredibly stunning face; the stray hair on his forehead was somewhat disheveled, but it did not affect those soul-snatching eyes in the slightest. It was clearly a somewhat bewitching appearance, yet because of his cold and unruly gaze, his icy aura made one dare not harbor any other desires.
It just so happened that there was a tiny red mole on the bridge of his nose, which looked exceptionally vivid and eye-catching on his slightly pale face, burning and compelling.
With this look and this temperament, this man was no ordinary person.
He was definitely not someone a little piece of trash like her could afford to provoke.
Her gaze moved downward, landing on his body.
A pitch-black steel pipe was thrust into his chest, and his white clothes had long since been stained red by a large patch of seeping blood.
If this continued, he would likely die from excessive blood loss.
"I am an Imperial Warrior, don't worry, I will not harm you." His tone was a few degrees weaker than before.
His injuries were very severe.
"I am in great need of your help right now, don't worry, I will repay you."
Whether he repaid her or not didn't matter; Ruan Mian only wanted to save her own life.
She twitched the corners of her mouth, "How do you want me to help you? Pull out this steel pipe?"
The man looked at her with an expression as if looking at a fool.
"Purchase a Medical Pod on the Light Brain."
Fine, she had arrived too recently, and her way of thinking was still stuck in the past.
She opened the Light Brain and found the Medical Pod he mentioned, but the number of zeros after the price was so high she could barely count them.
She couldn't help but click her tongue, "It's too expensive, I can't afford it."
She reckoned that even if she sold herself, she wouldn't be able to afford it.
"Point your Light Brain at my eyes."
She did as he said; he blinked, and the next second, the payment was successful.
A sky-high priced Medical Pod had just appeared in her Light Brain just like that.
Tsk, is this guy a golden nugget?!
