Chapter 30

~8 min read 1,562 words

In the General's Mansion, Lin Jiaojiao and Song Mu were becoming increasingly fond of each other. When Song Fu and Song Mu were about to leave, they were actually reluctant to part. When saying goodbye, Lin Jiaojiao did not forget to carefully admonish, "Uncle, your lip corners are dry and peeling, which means your liver fire is high. When you go back, you can use chrysanthemum to boil water for tea to clear the fire."

"Aunt, please rest assured. As for Magistrate Song, I will definitely use every method to help him recover quickly!"

"Good, this old man accepts your kindness." Song Fu, such a stern person, actually bowed solemnly to thank Lin Jiaojiao. "This old man will go to the Pei Mansion another day and have them release you from the mansion."

"Good child, taking care of Shijie is secondary; you must first not tire yourself out." Song Mu held Lin Jiaojiao's hand, unable to look at her enough. "My son is someone who is fierce in appearance but weak in spirit; you must absolutely not let him anger you."

"I won't, I won't," Lin Jiaojiao laughed. "You two take care on your way!"

After sending off Song Fu and Song Mu, a rumbling sound came from Lin Jiaojiao's stomach.

Suddenly, a young girl's angry scolding came from behind her, "Well, well, what a fickle concubine. Being with Brother Ting isn't enough, you even go to hook up with the Pei Mansion, and you won't even let Magistrate Song off!"

"Huh?!" Lin Jiaojiao turned her head and saw a bright and beautiful girl in pink-purple clothes standing by a camphor tree,

glaring at her with righteous indignation.

The girl was about sixteen or seventeen, with an apple-round face that still had some lingering baby fat, and a pair of round eyes glaring angrily at her.

"I'm talking about you!" Seeing that Lin Jiaojiao did not react, the girl felt even more that she was shameless!

"You are already Brother Ting's concubine and that's not enough? You actually have dealings with the Pei Mansion. You really have great ability, and now you even dare to deceive Magistrate Song!"

"Me?" Lin Jiaojiao was stunned by the scolding. She was almost amused by the girl's shouting: "I actually have such great ability!"

Jiang Guniang was so angry she gritted her teeth. This woman actually thought she had great ability! Her skin was truly thick enough to reach the heavens!

Just as she was about to continue scolding, she was interrupted by Steward Xu, who had come to find Lin Jiaojiao, "Jiang Guniang, those who come are guests, do not be rude!"

After speaking, Steward Xu said to Lin Jiaojiao, "Female Physician, General Lu left a message saying that if you are awake and have time, please go over to treat the leg ailment of our Old Madam."

"Oh, okay." Lin Jiaojiao suddenly realized and immediately remembered what she had promised General Lu yesterday.

She responded politely, "Please lead the way."

"Hmph." Jiang Guniang was angry inside, but due to Steward Xu's face, she dared not continue scolding. In the end, she could only follow behind the steward, huffing and puffing, to visit Lu Mu.

Led by Steward Xu, Lin Jiaojiao walked through the General's Mansion. She looked around at the surroundings; most of the carvings in this General's Mansion were of the ancient beast Yazi, which was very imposing.

The Steward Xu leading the way had white hair at his temples but was full of vigor, his spine straight. Although he was of an advanced age, he had solid muscle lines.

Lin Jiaojiao watched and began to admire: if this physique were placed in the modern era, he would be a capable one, comparable to the old grandpas who go to pull rings in the park every day!

Even the passing maids were not cowering; one by one, they held their backs straight, quite like female generals!

As expected of a General's Mansion! Who wouldn't feel a sense of safety exploding while living here!

As Lin Jiaojiao was sighing in her heart, she was unknowingly led by Steward Xu to Nian'en Hall, where bursts of hearty laughter could be heard, among which was the voice of the wet nurse, Guo Shi.

"This little thing looks quite unique." Another old woman said while teasing the child, and Zhu Geer laughed with a cackle.

After Steward Xu knocked on the door to announce them, he pointed into the room to lead Lin Jiaojiao, "Nian'en Hall has arrived, please enter, Divine Physician."

Lin Jiaojiao nodded and said, "Thank you."

"No need for courtesy, if there are other matters, just send someone to find me." Steward Xu said and then left.

At this time, Liu Zhongyi in the mansion called to them, "Divine Physician, wait a moment, I will go in with you to take the pulse of Chen Laofuren."

"Okay." Lin Jiaojiao looked at Liu Zhongyi with a smile, "You must be Liu Shouyi's brother, Liu Zhongyi, right?"

"Indeed." Liu Zhongyi stroked his beard and replied, "I just saw Magistrate Song's wound; the suturing technique is unique. May I ask who your master is?"

"Uh," Lin Jiaojiao touched her head in embarrassment.

She thought about how she had attended university and been taught by multiple clinical-experienced, senior medical professors, but this could not be explained in ancient times, so she could only humbly reply, "I studied under many medical masters."

"Ah, so that means you are self-taught," Liu Zhongyi bowed respectfully to Lin Jiaojiao, "I never expected a woman to have such talent; it is truly a blessing for the medical profession."

"Hmph!" Seeing that even the house physician was so respectful to Lin Jiaojiao, Jiang Guniang felt a surge of anger that she couldn't vent, so she could only turn and walk into the room to visit Lu Mu.

"You flatter me, you flatter me," Lin Jiaojiao accepted it on the surface, but she was incredibly happy inside, "I still need to thank you and Liu Shouyi. If it weren't for your help, the General might not have gone to the Dali Temple to rescue me."

"A small matter, a small matter. It is because your medical skills are excellent. Shouyi and I are not skilled in medicine and still need to learn a lot from you." Liu Zhongyi said as he entered the room with Lin Jiaojiao, "Later, when taking Chen Laofuren's pulse and treating her, I will need your guidance."

"You are too kind." Lin Jiaojiao said politely. As soon as she entered the room, she heard Jiang Guniang's shrill scream, "Aunt! Where did this little Yaksha come from!"

This was not the first time Lin Jiaojiao had heard others say this about Zhu Geer; she was already accustomed to it.

But from the room came the old lady's slightly reproachful voice, "Mianmian, this is just an infant who looks a bit ugly. How can you call him a Yaksha? When the child grows up and fills out, he will naturally look better."

It was the first time Lin Jiaojiao had heard someone speak up for Pei Tiezhu. Even she herself had admitted in her heart that the child's appearance was ugly and strange, and she had never spoken up for Zhu Geer!

She felt a bit embarrassed, sighing that she, as a mother, had not done well enough.

After entering the room, Lin Jiaojiao bowed to the old lady leaning against the bedside, her words as sweet as honey, pouring out all the good things she could think of at once.

"This young woman greets the Old Madam. May the Old Madam be blessed with peace and health, longevity, happiness every day, may your life be as long as the Southern Mountain, and your fortune as vast as the Eastern Sea."

Hearing these praises, the old lady was so happy she couldn't close her mouth, "Are you the Divine Physician my son mentioned? You truly are an interesting and lovely person."

Did General Lu praise her so exaggeratedly? Lin Jiaojiao was overjoyed, but she still maintained a decent smile on her face.

"Old Madam, you flatter me. If I cannot cure your leg ailment, at least I have a mouth that can say a few good words to coax you into being happy."

Guo Shi sat to the side holding Pei Tiezhu. Watching Lin Jiaojiao like this, she wondered why she had never seen the concubine's dog mouth spit out ivory before? Ah, ptooey, the concubine's mouth is not a dog's mouth.

Jiang Mianmian, however, crossed her arms and hummed unhappily.

The old lady was amused to laughter and signaled for Lin Jiaojiao to sit by the bed, "You are someone who knows how to coax people. Don't worry, my leg ailment is an old problem. If it can't be cured, it can't be cured. I won't blame you."

Looking at this old lady, Lin Jiaojiao liked her more and more, especially compared to the Pei Mansion side; it was simply heaven versus hell!

Moreover, since the old lady had said this, there would be no worries about medical disputes if it couldn't be cured.

Lin Jiaojiao walked to the bedside and began to take the old lady's pulse, then looked up at Liu Zhongyi and said, "Can you feel this pulse? The old lady has had this cold ailment for many years."
