Chapter 341: He Has Finally Found a Home
Rong Juan grew increasingly uneasy the more he looked, Rong Yang also furrowed his small brows, while He Yan merely held the little milk bun, staring eye-to-eye with the child; this simply wouldn't do, his younger brother was not easy to look after.
The young prince was curious; why wasn't he throwing a tantrum yet?
Rong Juan instructed He Yan: "You must talk to him."
He Yan looked down at the child and said, "Go home."
The little milk bun, in a milky voice, replied, "No."
Rong Juan: "..."
Rong Yang: "..."
The young prince: "Yes, I won't go home."
He Yan looked at the young prince: "Shall I go to the palace?"
The threat in his tone made the young prince hiss; the Great Yan Emperor truly did beat him. The Eunuch Fu beside him was speechless; could one blame the Great Yan Emperor for beating the young prince? What bad lesson had he taught, teaching the young heir to cry for his father?
Great Yan had only two powerful ministers' heirs to assist the Emperor; was the young heir Rong Chi the only one who cried? If both cried, it didn't matter if they weren't allowed to, but what if they did? If they cried themselves to death, the one left to cry would be the Great Yan Emperor.
Before the late Emperor passed, he had calculated that the Great Yan imperial line needed both powerful ministers' heirs; neither could be missing.
If He Yan, the He heir, went to the palace, the young prince would still have to take a beating.
"Not going home," the little milk bun insisted, sounding fierce in a milky way, pointing with his tiny hand: "This is my home."
Rong Juan sighed helplessly: "This is your elder brother Rong Yang's home."
"It's mine," the little milk bun said, crawling and trying to stand up.
Rong Juan reached out to support him; the child was unsteady and might fall. Actually, Rong Juan was overthinking it; although He Yan didn't know how to look after children, he certainly wouldn't let the child fall. Rong Yang also ran over to support the little milk bun.
"Rong Yang," He Yan spoke up: "You stay here too."
Rong Yang shook his head, turned around, and buried himself in Rong Juan's arms.
He Yan felt a pang in his heart. He glanced at the little milk bun; this one wouldn't leave even if driven away. The little milk bun even spoke up, waving his tiny hand: "I won't go. Father, you and your brother go, but come visit me often."
Hearing those words, it seemed he wanted to stay permanently. Rong Juan took a deep breath and, helplessly, left with Rong Yang. The young prince was reluctant to part; this younger brother was too fun and so cute.
He Yan invited the young prince to stay: "Young Prince, you might as well live at the Yan Duke Prefecture."
"Great!" The young prince was delighted, waving at the Rong heir and Rong Yang: "Don't worry, I'll stay and help He Yan look after the child. I certainly won't let your precious treasure suffer any grievance."
Rong Juan and Rong Yang did feel a bit more reassured. Seeing that it was getting late, Rong Juan turned back and instructed He Yan: "Just steam an egg custard for him tonight, keep it light."
"Add sesame oil," the little milk bun shouted.
There we go; no need for Rong Juan to say it, the little milk bun knew how to ask for it himself.
Rong Yang added another instruction: "My brother must eat eggs from spirit-plant chickens."
He Yan nodded and took the opportunity to say: "Rong Yang, if you are still worried, you can eat it and go back."
Rong Yang refused: "Save it for Fu Bao to eat."
He Yan: "..."
"I'll eat it, I'll eat it..." the young prince jumped in.
He Yan thought that his fate truly had issues; Rong Yang blamed him, yet others' children wouldn't leave even when driven away. Giving Fu Bao egg custard steamed with eggs from spirit-plant chickens, He Yan feared Fu Bao might choke.
The young prince could eat it; after all, children of the imperial family were closer to the Yan Duke Prefecture and the Rong Prince Prefecture.
"Do you have eggs from spirit-plant chickens?" Rong Yang remembered to ask.
Even if there weren't any, there would be now. He Yan said: "Yes."
The little milk bun chimed in: "Yes."
Rong Juan grew angrier the more he looked; he couldn't bear to beat the child, so he simply took Rong Yang and left.
He Yan carried the little milk bun to the door. Once on the carriage, the Rong heir looked deeply at the little milk bun. The little milk bun bounced around happily; he had finally found a home.
"Everyone go, everyone go," the child said in a milky voice.
Now Rong Yang was angry too; seeing how eagerly they were being driven away, all that affection had been wasted.
Watching the Rong Prince Prefecture carriage leave, the young prince turned around and stared blankly at He Yan and the child. Everyone knew whose child the little milk bun was; yet this child had misunderstood and insisted on coming to the Yan Duke Prefecture.
"You won't cause trouble, will you?" the young prince asked the little milk bun.
The little one replied in a milky voice: "I'm good."
He Yan smiled; indeed, he was very cute, no wonder the Rong heir treasured him so. He turned and walked back into the prefecture. The young prince followed. Eunuch Fu dispatched the Imperial Guards to report to the Great Yan Emperor and the Imperial Consort that the young prince would be staying at the Yan Duke Prefecture.
A prince living in a minister's home benefits the Emperor; the Great Yan Emperor would certainly agree.
He Yan carried the child into the main hall of the Yan Duke Prefecture. Before the Yan Duke could speak, the little milk bun called out: "Grandfather."
Yan Duke: "..."
The Yan Duke's wife beside him: "Oh, this child has quite a sweet mouth."
Both the Yan Duke and his wife were charmed by the child, finding him incredibly precious. The Yan Duke immediately gave the child a box of demon beast crystals. The Yan Duke's wife rummaged around and gave the child several defensive talismans.
The old Yan Duke and the old lady, having heard the news, gave the child several magic treasures.
The child accepted them without hesitation, putting them one by one into his storage bag: "It's mine, it's mine, it's mine..."
He Yan's mouth twitched; this little bun hadn't come to his Yan Duke Prefecture for nothing. Rong Yang blamed him for giving Fu Bao so many things, but actually, the best treasures were being saved for Rong Yang.
The young prince watched eagerly from the side. The Yan Duke gave the young prince a summoning artifact.
The Yan Duke went to the Immortal Sect, caught a spirit-plant chicken, and bought eggs. He steamed a bowl of egg custard for the child and stewed the spirit-plant chicken. The young prince prepared to feast.
The little milk bun looked up at He Yan, who was holding him, and said: "Give the chicken leg to my brother. One for me, one for my brother, and one chicken wing for Mother."
He Yan instructed: "Send half to the Rong Prince Prefecture."
Once the spirit-plant chicken was stewed, a guard took the food box and left. They couldn't send just the stewed chicken; there was also a portion of egg custard and several types of cakes, all things the child loved.
The Yan Duke's wife was still worried that He Yan didn't know how to look after children and wanted to help feed him. But when she reached out, the little milk bun pushed her away: "Father hold me."
He Yan said: "I'll do it."
He Yan had seen Rong Juan look after children; it wasn't hard to pick up. The child truly could eat; the young prince only got a few pieces of meat.
Everything was fine until bedtime, when He Yan got a headache.
The little milk bun sat on the bed and directed: "Shoes."
He Yan took off his little shoes, and the little milk bun lifted his tiny feet: "Socks."
He Yan pulled off his socks. Next came coaxing him to sleep, but the little milk bun wouldn't sleep; he lifted his tiny feet to play and chattered away, yet He Yan had patience.
The young prince also climbed into bed to sleep, and He Yan finally waited until the little milk bun felt drowsy.
The child wailed: "My father~"
He Yan: "...... What's wrong?"
"I want to find my father and mother." The child threw a tantrum, wanting to go home.
The young prince was stunned: "You were the one who wanted to stay."
"I want to find my father and mother." The child looked around for Rong Juan and Qin Bi.
