Chapter 390: Is She, the Dignified Xue Wang Fei, a Vegetarian?
Fu Bao tilted her head back, opened her mouth and cried, "I, I explained, but no one would listen to me."
Qin He, furious, exclaimed, "How can this be!"
Xue Wang Fei did not fully believe Fu Bao's words; she knew her own child well. Spoiled by Qin He, Fu Bao had become somewhat domineering, insisting on having the most of everything.
"Did you really not pinch Rong Chi, the young heir?" Xue Wang Fei asked, staring at Fu Bao with suspicion.
"I didn't," Fu Bao shouted loudly, sensing the doubt.
Qin He was also unsure whether Fu Bao had pinched Rong Chi. Fu Bao truly had no ill intentions, but sometimes she did hit her younger brother, lacking a sense of lightness or heaviness; scolding her several times had done no good.
Qin He looked at the maid following them and asked, "Tell us, what happened?"
"Everyone is in the main hall," the maid said, bowing her head. "This servant waited outside and did not know what was happening inside."
Qin He was completely at a loss. Before, her maids and guards could freely enter Yan Guogong Fu and accompany her at all times, but since when had maids not been allowed to follow?
Qin He clenched the handkerchief in her grasp. This would not do. If not for He He Shizi's fate of being cursed with a barren wife and no children, everything in Yan Guogong Fu should have been hers; she was the true mistress of Yan Guogong Fu.
Qin Bi and her son wanted to push out her power; absolutely not.
"Fu Bao," Qin He squatted down, looked up at Fu Bao, and said earnestly, "Tell your mother the truth. Did you really pinch Rong Chi? You came back crying like this; people will say you bullied a child, and your reputation will suffer."
"I didn't, I didn't..." Fu Bao wailed loudly, shouting, "Even you, Mother, don't believe me. I don't like you anymore. You are all bad people. Why do you frame me?"
Qin He felt uneasy, and soon felt distressed as well.
Qin He wiped away tears and coaxed Fu Bao too.
"Enough," Xue Wang Fei could no longer bear to watch. What was all this fuss? Were they crying for her? Xue Wang Fei said, "Since Fu Bao says she did not pinch Rong Chi, the young heir, take Fu Bao to Yan Guogong Fu to demand an explanation."
Qin He hesitated, "It would be better if Mother went."
Xue Wang Fei glared at Qin He with frustration, as if scolding iron that refused to become steel, "You will go with her."
Xue Wang Fei took Qin He and Fu Bao to Yan Guogong Fu. Yan Guogong Lady was receiving guests in a side hall. A maid served tea. Fu Bao sobbed intermittently, while Qin He tried to speak several times but held back, her face filled with anger.
Xue Wang Fei, however, remained remarkably calm. After taking a sip of tea, she set it down and said, "Guogong Lady, Fu Bao came to your Yan Guogong Fu and returned home crying, saying she was wrongly accused. What is going on?"
Qin He immediately pulled the sobbing Fu Bao and said, "Our Fu Bao has never suffered such a grievance since childhood. Look at how the child is crying, gasping for breath. Does Guogong Lady not feel for her? Fu Bao grew up by your side since childhood; what difference is there between her and your own granddaughter?"
Compared to the two who came later, Fu Bao was the most considerate.
Yan Guogong Lady sipped her tea leisurely, took a small sip, then raised her eyes and said, "It is not a major matter. Children playing can be rough. Fu Bao lacked a sense of lightness or heaviness and pinched our Rong Chi's little face."
Xue Wang Fei nodded. "Indeed, children playing can be rough. However, Fu Bao says she did not pinch Rong Chi, the young heir. Perhaps there is some misunderstanding here. A baby of a few months can easily scratch his own little face."
Yan Guogong Lady nodded. "Perhaps so."
"Little Green Tea's face isn't even red," Fu Bao shouted. "He deliberately framed me."
Xue Wang Fei scolded, "Fu Bao, be quiet."
"Mother," Qin He pulled Fu Bao and immediately shielded her, "Mother, do not frighten the child."
A thoughtless thing, Xue Wang Fei cursed inwardly.
Sure enough, Yan Guogong Lady's face darkened. "Xue Wang Fei, Fu Bao is, after all, a young princess of your Xue Wang Fu. How can you call another child 'Little Green Tea'? Is this the upbringing in your Xue Wang Fu? In that case, I must suspect that Fu Bao did pinch Rong Chi."
A noble young lady who speaks without thinking, not even as good as a child from an ordinary family.
Xue Wang Fei, from a prominent family, felt her face burn with shame under the accusation. Suppressing her anger, Xue Wang Fei said, "Fu Bao is simply a bit straightforward and has no ill intentions. Guogong Lady, Fu Bao is our own child. Where I fail to guide her, please offer your advice."
Just as Yan Guogong Lady was about to speak, Xue Wang Fei preempted her, "Regardless, Fu Bao was raised according to the standards of a legitimate young lady of your Yan Guogong Fu. She is, in a sense, your own granddaughter."
Xue Wang Fei stood up and said, "Fu Bao will stay here. Whether she is punished or beaten is entirely up to Guogong Lady. My Xue Wang Fu will have no objections. Since she is a legitimate young lady of Yan Guogong Fu, let Yan Guogong Fu's rules apply."
Without waiting for Yan Guogong Lady to say anything, Xue Wang Fei stood up and left.
By leaving Fu Bao with Yan Guogong Fu, Fu Bao would remain a legitimate young lady of Yan Guogong Fu. If they parted on bad terms like this, Fu Bao might be expelled from Yan Guogong Fu, not even counting as an ordinary relative.
Xue Wang Fei would never allow such a situation. Over the years, she and Xue Wang knew well the benefits they had gained. They had to hold tight to this luck and fortune; otherwise, Yan Guogong Fu would leave them behind with the slightest carelessness.
Xue Wang Fei could not tell whether He He Shizi still held some care for Qin He, but she could clearly see that Yan Guogong Fu wanted to cast off Xue Wang Fu. Today was merely an excuse to make a point.
Was she, the dignified Xue Wang Fei, a vegetarian?
Hehe. Xue Wang Fei turned to the hesitant Qin He and said, "Let's go. Fu Bao is a legitimate young lady of Yan Guogong Fu, raised there since childhood and doted on. Are you, her mother, still not reassured?"
Yan Guogong Lady was anxious and took the opportunity to say, "There are matters in my household these days. Xue Wang Fei, please take Fu Bao back."
Qin He also looked at Xue Wang Fei with difficulty and said, "Fu Bao is still crying."
Xue Wang Fei wished she could gouge Qin He's eyes out with her gaze. Her eyes turned cold, and she turned and stepped away, giving Yan Guogong Lady no chance to continue speaking. Qin He glanced back at Fu Bao and had no choice but to follow Xue Wang Fei.
When Qin He came close, Xue Wang Fei seized the opportunity, grabbing Qin He by the arm. "Fu Bao has Guogong Lady to guide her, so rest assured. You are simply too doting on the child."
Pain shot through Qin He's hand, and she finally raised her eyes to meet Xue Wang Fei's gaze, startled in her heart.
Xue Wang Fei's eyes held a cold glint. She dared not show too much, fearing Yan Guogong Lady would see. Xue Wang Fei only glared threateningly, then immediately resumed her usual dignified smile.
"If you are not reassured, take her back quickly," Yan Guogong Lady called out after them, ordering someone to bring Fu Bao.
Fu Bao was somewhat stunned. She followed Yan Guogong Lady all the way to the gate outside the mansion. Xue Wang Fei wore a proper smile on her face but never loosened her grip on Qin He's hand, pulling Qin He into the carriage.
"Guogong Lady," Xue Wang Fei said to Yan Guogong Lady through the carriage curtain lifted by an old woman, "We are all family; no need to see us off. Return to the mansion."
