Chapter 396: Still Wanting to Return to the Yan Guogong Fu
He Zu carried Fu Bao out, with a maid following closely: "Put down our First-Rank Little Princess, Young Master He, what are you doing? If our Rong Shizifei finds out, she will not let this go."
He Zu only turned back and gave the maid a cold glance; the maid, helpless, turned back.
The maid knelt before He He Shizi: "He He Shizi, Young Master He is too unreasonable. Our Little Princess Fu Bao will be frightened. As the legitimate daughter of the Yan Guogong Fu, her status is precious; how can she be carried out like this?"
"What legitimate daughter of the Yan Guogong Fu?" He He Shizi stood up, holding Rong Chi, and sneered coldly: "I, He Yan, have shown extra care to your Rong Shizifei, yet it has only inflated Fu Bao's appetite. I have my own biological children, yet she dares to pretend to be the legitimate daughter of the Yan Guogong Fu? I, He Yan, have only two children: Rong Yang and Rong Chi. There are no others, and there is no such thing as a legitimate daughter of the Yan Guogong Fu."
The maid was speechless but unwilling to give up: "But, our Little Princess is Fu Bao; she has been raised by the Yan Guogong Fu since childhood."
He Yan's eyebrows twitched, and immediately guards dragged the maid away as well.
He Yan thought for a moment, picked up Rong Chi and stood; Rong Yang followed. Together with the Yan Guogong Lady, they went to the entrance of the Yan Guogong Fu. He Zu set down the still-unconvinced Fu Bao and stepped down the stairs in one swift motion.
The maid was also thrown out by the guards, and passersby on the road immediately stopped.
"Good heavens, what's going on?"
"I don't know; let's go see."
The nearby residents were all from noble families, and there was no shortage of people eager for a spectacle; they immediately moved closer. Those further away ran over, afraid to miss any excitement. As they drew near, the Shen family members recognized Fu Bao.
"Isn't that Fu Bao, the First-Rank Little Princess of the Xue Wang Fu?"
Someone squinted and said: "Hey, it really is. What happened?"
The maid had been thrown outside the gate. Fu Bao, pushed by He Zu, stumbled down a few steps without falling. She was just unwilling to accept it; in her view, Rong Yang and Rong Chi had stolen her status, and she was making a scene, insisting on returning to the Yan Guogong Fu.
Unfortunately, she was blocked by He He Shizi, who was holding Rong Chi.
"Why are you blocking me?" Fu Bao cried in grievance: "I want to enter the manor. I still want to enter the palace. Grandmother, Uncle He, tell those two children to leave. You should drive them away."
The crowd murmured in surprise; ah, now they understood what was happening.
Children fighting for favor; Fu Bao had been driven out.
"No one dares to drive away my children," He He Shizi said, his expression stern, lacking his usual gentleness, though the little bun in his arms was still laughing happily. He He Shizi continued: "Fu Bao, the Yan Guogong Fu has cared for you, provided you with cultivation resources, and granted almost every request. Yet you still want to replace my biological children? You are young, so I will not hold it against you. From now on, do not come to my Yan Guogong Fu again."
The Cui family was nearby; Cui Da Young Master and Cui Er Young Master heard the news and rushed over.
Cui Er Young Master glanced at the crying Fu Bao, while Cui Da Young Master stepped up the stairs and asked: "He He Shizi, what is going on? Fu Bao is just a child; did she do something wrong?"
Qin He was a concubine-born daughter of the second branch of the Qin Yan Hou Fu. Cui Shi was her legitimate mother, and Cui Shi's natal family could be considered Fu Bao's maternal grandparents' family. However, the maternal grandparents' family of a concubine-born child does not count as proper relatives.
He He Shizi and Cui Da Young Master had a good relationship. He narrowed his eyes and said: "What could a child from a relative's family possibly do wrong? She merely wants to be the legitimate daughter of my Yan Guogong Fu and cannot tolerate my Rong Yang. It is better not to maintain this relationship. I, He Yan, know how to spoil my children. What right does a child from the Xue Wang Fu have to compete with my Rong Yang for status in the Yan Guogong Fu?"
He He Shizi glanced at the two Cui young masters: "A cuckoo occupying a magpie's nest is absolutely not allowed in the Yan Guogong Fu. You have seen Fu Bao; she knows nothing of propriety. You, as uncles, should take her away."
Others had driven her out of the manor, yet she stubbornly refused to leave; this had nothing to do with being educated and reasonable.
If she were someone who understood propriety, she would have left already.
Cui Da Young Master and Cui Er Young Master hesitated, speechless. It was better to get Fu Bao away now; did they not see people from every manor pointing and whispering? As a powerful minister of Great Yan, He He Shizi was fated to lose his wife and have no children; how hard was it for him to have a child?
Since He He Shizi had finally had his own biological child, naturally he treasured him. This Little Princess from the Xue Wang Fu was interesting; instead of stepping aside and getting along with Rong Yang, she could not even tolerate the young Rong Yang He Shizi.
Heh, the crowd chattered, filled with contempt for Fu Bao.
He He Shizi had not originally intended to be so harsh; after all, he had cared for her for two years, so there was some affection. But once she entertained the thought of driving away Rong Yang, she could not be kept. He He Shizi's eyes were entirely cold.
People from every manor could understand. Fu Bao had received many benefits from the Yan Guogong Fu; it would have been better to stop while ahead. The Yan Guogong Fu was a prestigious noble family of Great Yan; even a little cultivation resource given casually in the future would have been good.
Such a good thing, yet who taught Fu Bao to even dream of being the legitimate daughter of the Yan Guogong Fu?
"Her ambition is not small."
"Yes, the legitimate daughter of the second young master of the Yan Guogong Fu is the rightful legitimate daughter. What is the Xue Wang Fu thinking?"
"Heh, relying on He He Shizi being a powerful minister, they thought the Yan Guogong Fu was within their grasp."
They exchanged glances, each pair of eyes filled with contempt.
"What First-Rank Little Princess? They have already driven her out, yet she still refuses to leave."
"She doesn't know how to read the situation. In noble families, children are raised from a young age to be educated and reasonable; this one knows nothing."
A young young master leaned in and whispered: "The Xue Rong Shizifei is a concubine-born daughter, so she lacks a bit in propriety; her narrow-mindedness is understandable. If she were a legitimate daughter, the Little Princess would at least understand some things."
The Cui family members could not bear to listen; their faces darkened. Qin He had made a fool of herself, and their own faces were not spared. Cui Er Young Master personally escorted Fu Bao back to the Xue Wang Fu, but Fu Bao still refused to leave, and the maid did not even urge her.
Cui Er Lady was summoned. She grabbed Fu Bao firmly and, together with the nanny beside her, dragged Fu Bao onto the carriage.
He He Shizi picked up Rong Chi, called for Rong Yang, and returned to the manor.
The Yan Guogong Lady said to Cui Da Young Master: "From now on, treat us as ordinary relatives. As for this 'legitimate daughter,' she has let her heart run wild; our Yan Guogong Fu does not recognize her."
Cui Da Young Master smiled: "Fu Bao is just a child who does not understand."
"Hmph." The Yan Guogong Lady had originally intended to enter the manor, but after thinking, she turned to the crowd from various manors who were watching the spectacle: "Today, the Xue Wang Fei repeatedly mentioned that Fu Bao is the legitimate daughter of our Yan Guogong Fu. Today, I will make this clear: Fu Bao is merely a child from a relative's family."
It was impossible to cut off all contact completely. The Qin Yan Hou Fu was the maternal grandparents' family of Rong Yang, and also of Fu Bao.
The Yan Guogong Fu could not sever this tie, but as long as He He Shizi withdrew his care for the Xue Wang Fu, everything would return to normal. Fu Bao would simply be a child from a relative's family, with no extra status.
Cui Da Young Master sighed. Qin He had not stopped while ahead; she had simply overestimated her weight in He He Shizi's heart.
Compared to Rong Yang, Qin He was merely a childhood friend.
Once the Yan Guogong Lady spoke these words, people from every manor understood: Fu Bao's good treatment in the Yan Guogong Fu was gone.
