Chapter 429

~8 min read 1,462 words

The young Imperial Prince hesitated, not wanting to go.

As an Imperial Prince, he could only visit the homes of familiar ministers, or follow the two powerful Princes' heirs to whichever residence they chose; the young Imperial Prince looked at He He Shizi, and if He He Shizi went to Qin Yan Hou Fu, then he would go too.

"Do you need me to take you?" He He Shizi asked Rong Juan.

Rong Juan asked Rong Chi, "Are you going to your maternal grandfather's house?"

The little milk bun asked, "What for?"

Rong Juan poked his storage bag, "You're a wealthy family now; won't you buy snacks for your cousins? Or give some cultivation resources at least. Do you have any spirit-energy-infused snacks?"

The little milk bun was greatly surprised, clutching his storage bag, "Eat mine?"

Rong Juan stared at him, why was he so money-obsessed?!

The little milk bun realized belatedly, "Alright, let's go to maternal grandfather's house."

The children had agreed; He He Shizi would inevitably visit Qin Yan Hou Fu. Rong Juan often went to his maternal grandfather's house; with guards present, it didn't matter if adults accompanied them, but this little one couldn't be left alone.

The little milk bun couldn't walk yet; the young Imperial Prince absolutely couldn't take two children at once.

Everyone had a bowl of spirit-plant chicken egg custard; the children ate happily. He He Shizi fed the little milk bun, who kept shouting for this or that and touching his storage bag, being extremely playful.

After breakfast, it was already late; He He Shizi took several children to Qin Yan Hou Fu.

He He Shizi didn't need to submit a visiting card to enter Qin Yan Hou Fu, so Qin Yan didn't expect him to come. Just as he was about to leave, he saw He He Shizi arrive, carrying a child. A quick glance revealed, good heavens, his own precious little nephew.

"Good thing I didn't leave," Qin Yan said, "Come in quickly."

He He Shizi nodded. Rong Juan walked slowly, so Qin Yan picked up the child. Qin Xiang glanced at the young Imperial Prince in his imperial robes; the boy wasn't small, yet didn't require much attention, though the young Imperial Prince was still worried about the two little buns.

"How does He He Shizi have time to come?" Qin Yan said while walking, "It's been a while since I visited the Marquis manor."

He He Shizi replied, "No time."

The little milk bun said, "Watching the children. I'm small and can't be left alone."

He He Shizi: "..."

Qin Yan: "..."

Qin Xiang: "..."

Fine, it seemed Qin Yan knew too; He He Shizi must have been babysitting for Rong He Shizi lately. Having heard only a sentence or two, he never expected He He Shizi to actually be watching the child for Rong He Shizi.

"Where is your father?" Qin Yan teased him.

The child parroted, "Saving up the family fortune for me."

Qin Yan: "..."

The child spoke in a milky voice; everyone teased him. They entered the living room amidst the lively chatter. A brazier was inside; a servant threw in premium charcoal, quickly warming the room, then went to fetch fruits and placed them on the brazier.

Qin Yan sent someone to inform Qin Tang, Qin Xun, and Qin Lang. Qin Lang was Qin Bi's cousin, but treated no differently from a real brother; since both little nephews had arrived, they should be notified.

Shortly after, Qin Tang and Qin Xun rushed over, followed by Qin Lang.

"On such a cold day, why did Rong Juan and his brother come?" Qin Tang said, reaching out toward He He Shizi.

He He Shizi looked down; he thought the child wouldn't want Qin Tang, but the child immediately reached out for Qin Tang to hold him. The young Imperial Prince turned his head in confusion, looking at the Marquis manor's living room, then at the courtyard outside.

Rong Juan also reached out. Before Qin Xun could bend down, Qin Lang snatched the child up. They were competing; Qin Lang doted on this eldest nephew, as he was Qin Bi's first child.

"Rong Juan," Qin Lang said, "Let's go to the Fourth Courtyard."

Rong Juan nodded, "Alright, I have something to do."

Qin Lang and Qin Xun exchanged glances, wondering what business a child could have.

Rong Juan turned and said to the little milk bun in Qin Tang's arms, "You go too."

"Alright," the little milk bun replied crisply.

With Qin He Shizi accompanying them, Qin Tang and the other children, who doted on their own nephew, said their goodbyes and left holding the child. The young Imperial Prince hesitated for a moment, then followed.

Hearing Rong Juan had arrived, the children from the First Courtyard and other branches all ran over to play with him. Seeing the little milk bun, they looked at him with curiosity; this little one was treated like a treasure, as Rong He Shizi doted on him greatly.

A group of children followed, bustling all the way to the Fourth Courtyard.

Jiang Shi and Lin Shi immediately brought fruits for the children to eat. The young Imperial Prince quickly started playing with the kids. Qin Di also got a chance to hold the little milk bun, who was quite sweet-tongued.

"Maternal grandfather," the little milk bun called out.

"Yes," Qin Di gave the child a fortune plaque.

The little milk bun put it away. Rong Juan took out banknotes. Seeing this, the little milk bun grabbed a handful of banknotes too. Everyone paused; even the children running around and those eating were drawn to the attention.

"Why bring so many banknotes?" Qin Di asked Rong Juan.

"My father, He He Shizi, gave me a share of the soap shop profits," Rong Juan deliberately specified it was from the soap shop, then added, "Both Rong Chi and I have some. Since your family is building a courtyard, my brother and I will both contribute."

Qin Di looked at Qin Tang. Qin Tang took the banknotes and gave them back to the two children, "Your mother already gave money."

The little milk bun quickly extended his small hands. He offered them, but the uncle didn't want them; it wasn't that he refused to give. Rong Juan glanced at the little milk bun, and the child withdrew his small hands.

"My father, He He Shizi, gave this to me," Rong Juan refused to take it back, "What is given to me is mine. My brother and I are giving it to our maternal grandfather. Uncle needn't stand on ceremony with Rong Juan. Our maternal grandmother is still He He Shizi's own paternal aunt; it should be spent using his money."

Qin Tang hesitated. He Shi heard this and agreed it made sense.

"Take it. He Yan has money to give to the Second Branch, but gives nothing to me, his aunt," He Shi said. "Since Rong Juan has given it, there's no need to be polite with He Yan. He and Qin Bi are betrothed, yet gave nothing to the Fourth Branch."

Qin Tang placed the banknotes back on the table. The little milk bun saw this and thought they weren't giving it to him anymore.

Qin Di and He Shi, the legitimate son, discussed it. They shouldn't normally accept money from Rong Juan and Rong Chi, but if this was profit from the soap shop, they had to accept it, mainly to save Qin He's face.

After deliberating, Qin Tang went to the front courtyard.

Qin Yan and He He Shizi were drinking tea and chatting. Qin Tang sat down, eyeing He He Shizi, "Rong Juan and Rong Chi gave their share of the soap shop profits, ten thousand taels, to their maternal grandfather."

He He Shizi paused only briefly, nodded, and said nothing else.

Qin Tang understood He He Shizi's meaning, a smile touched his lips, and he stood up to return.

Qin Yan narrowed his eyes, slightly surprised that He He Shizi had given the soap shop profits to Rong Juan and Rong Chi, but thinking about it, it was quite normal. He He Shizi only had Rong Juan as a child; if he didn't dote on Rong Juan, who else would he dote on?!

Dote on Fu Bao? Qin Yan chuckled.

If Qin Yan had a fate of being a wife-killer with no children, there would be no need to ask which was more important.

Rong Juan and Rong Chi were so generous with their spending that the Hou Fu erupted in chaos; Qin He's legitimate younger sister was stunned: "What? He He Shizi gave the soap shop's share to Rong Juan and Rong Chi?"

Qin Yan frowned and nodded: "Yes."
