Chapter 500: Fu Bao Is So Bad
Jiang Mo also prepared to leave, and everyone walked out of the living room together.
Qin Xun went to arrange the carriage and informed the Rong Wang Fu Heir Consort's guard detail. Qin Tan not only went himself to escort Qin Bi but also dispatched guards to summon the Qin He Shizi; Qin Yan arrived quickly with the guards.
Qin Bi boarded the carriage, and Qin Lang also took a seat in it.
The others rode horses, with Qin Tan leading the way, the Qin He Shizi bringing up the rear, and Qin Tang and Qin Xun guarding on the left and right.
They were also surrounded by the Rong Wang Fu guards.
Jiang Mo stood at the entrance of the Qin Yan Hou Fu, watching the departing carriage and guard detail. Suddenly, a strange emotion arose, indescribable, causing a sharp pain in his chest. He glanced back at the Qin Yan Hou Fu, feeling even worse.
Jiang Mo squeezed his eyes shut tightly, and only then did he suppress that inexplicable emotion.
Jiang Mo's heart skipped a beat. Could it be that clearing the wasteland in the Barbarian Lands these past few days had provoked some beast that had attained sentience? No, that didn't seem right; his aura was still strong, not weak.
A servant boy led a horse over, and Jiang Mo mounted and left.
Upon returning home, Qin Han was crying with swollen eyes, and Jiang Ren was pouting.
"Grandfather's family gave my mother no face at all," the little girl said, also feeling ashamed, crying as she spoke: "Fu Bao was right; we should cut ties. With everyone present, how could they scold my mother in public? It was so shameful."
Jiang Mo's face darkened. "Where did you learn such treasonous words? Cut ties? Our Jiang Fu is a merchant family that relies on the Hou Fu to open shops. Do you think the Hou Fu fears you cutting ties?"
Jiang Ren froze. Did the Hou Fu not fear her family cutting ties?!
Her family was wealthy merchants, yet they still had to subsidize Grandfather's family. If they cut ties, Grandfather's family would surely regret it immensely. Grandfather's family was not well-off; they were the most detestable relatives!
Jiang Mo sat down, looking at the bewildered Jiang Ren, his gaze turning cold.
"Fu Bao and her mother often call others detestable relatives and clamor to cut ties," Jiang Mo asked Jiang Ren. "The Xue Wang Fu is a noble house, vastly different from us merchants. Did Fu Bao's family cut ties with their maternal grandfather's family?"
Jiang Ren: "...No."
"They don't cut ties, yet they instigate you to do so," Jiang Mo asked. "Are you stupid? Have you eaten rice for nothing?"
Jiang Ren lowered her head, wondering why Fu Bao and Qin Heyiyi disliked detestable relatives so much yet never cut ties. Were they deceiving her? Jiang Ren became unhappy. Fu Bao was so bad!
"Don't scold her," Qin Han spoke up. "The child only feels sorry for me and stands up for me."
"You are never to speak of cutting ties again," Jiang Mo ignored Qin Han and said sternly to Jiang Ren. "Your maternal grandmother, as your mother's legitimate mother, has been quite generous. Do not be ungrateful. Without the Hou Fu's backing, you would not eat or dress as well as you do now."
"Enough, stop talking," Qin Han interrupted. "We still have to go to the Barbarian Lands to clear the wasteland tomorrow."
"We won't go," Jiang Mo said.
"Why?" Qin Han asked, confused.
Jiang Mo looked at her. "Shame."
Qin Han froze. Jiang Mo got up and left the room, heading to the study. Today, Qin He's tactics were not sophisticated, yet Qin Han still went to measure the farmland that her two legitimate brothers were reclaiming.
Why? Because she couldn't tell right from wrong!
Qin Han did not believe she was wrong, so Jiang Mo could only handle it with cold silence. He didn't know what had happened today; his feelings for Qin Han had faded significantly. Sitting in the study, Jiang Mo gazed out the window as the cold air seeped into the room.
He needed the chill to clear his mind. For some reason, Jiang Mo felt as though fate had denied him children, not a single one. Was there regret? Yes, but one could still live a life.
The reality was, he had two children. Jiang Mo felt a dull ache in his chest.
When a maid told Qin Han that Jiang Mo had gone to the study, she angrily pounded her quilt. Even if planting vegetables on her legitimate brothers' land was wrong, she hadn't planted them yet, had she? Why was everyone holding onto this?
Qin Han sobbed, feeling extremely aggrieved. Her dignity was completely lost today.
She really shouldn't have listened to Qin He. If she hadn't planted vegetables, there wouldn't be so much trouble! Qin Han complained about everything. Today, Qin Bi must have been delighted; she was the one being scolded, yet Qin Bi just stood by watching, saying not a word in her defense.
Still sisters? It was all false affection.
Back at the Rong Wang Fu, Rong Juan, holding a cloak made of beast fur, strode to the gate to greet them. The man was tall, handsome, and noble. He put the cloak on Qin Bi and helped her down from the carriage.
Rong Juan took in everyone sent from the Qin Yan Hou Fu, granting them a measure of respect. "Come in and sit."
It was not yet very late, so the Qin He Shizi nodded. "That works."
Rong Juan put his arm around Qin Bi, and the group entered the residence. Rong Ya came running over, pattering.
"Mother!" Little Little Tuanzi said in a milky voice.
"Yes," Qin Bi smiled, bent down to pick up Rong Ya, and said to the Qin He Shizi and the others, "Since the He Shizi is here, Rong Ya and I will return to our courtyard."
"Go ahead," the Qin He Shizi waved his hand.
Rong Juan did not treat the people from the Qin Yan Hou Fu as outsiders. He first escorted Qin Bi and the child back to the Heir's courtyard, removed the thick cloak from Qin Bi, and seeing she looked well, he gave Rong Ya a few instructions before heading to the front hall living room.
Qin Tan, Qin Yan, and the others did not stay long. The Qin He Shizi came into the residence to sit briefly to mention the wasteland reclamation in the Barbarian Lands to the Rong He Shizi. Qin Tan also discussed matters regarding the county government office with the Rong He Shizi.
"Hurry up and cultivate," the Rong He Shizi said lightly, sitting in a chair. "Rong Ya and Rong Chi's maternal grandfather's family cannot be too poor. You are the support for Qin Bi, Rong Ya, and Rong Chi. At the very least, do not drag them down."
The Qin He Shizi nodded. "The Qin Yan Hou Fu has just become a cultivation family; we certainly will not drag Rong Ya or Rong Chi down."
"Qin Bi's lifespan was damaged by anger," the Rong He Shizi said. "She must not get angry."
This instruction was unnecessary; the people of the Qin Yan Hou Fu would all be careful. If Qin Bi was well, the Hou Fu would be well. The Rong He Shizi, full of spirit and vigor, did not tolerate sand in his eyes. To restore Qin Bi's lifespan, the vast foundation of the Rong Wang Fu had been consumed.
The fact that the Rong He Shizi could deliberately give such instructions showed he cared deeply for Qin Bi. Naturally, the Qin He Shizi and Qin Tan of the Qin Yan Hou Fu were more than willing to accept this. If Qin Bi were neglected, that would be truly distressing.
After sitting for a while, everyone prepared to leave.
Qin Lang and Qin Xun heard that Little Milk Little Tuanzi had not yet returned and suggested going together to the Yan Guogong Fu to fetch Rong Chi. The Rong He Shizi nodded. Rong Ya wanted to go along, but the Rong He Shizi did not agree.
Rong Ya was too young; winter nights were very cold.
Upon arriving at the Yan Guogong Fu, Little Milk Little Tuanzi saw the Rong He Shizi and waved his little hands. "Not leaving, not leaving."
The Rong He Shizi did not insist on taking him away. The little fellow played with the Yan Guogong's Lady, the young prince, and He Zu. The He He Shizi then invited the Rong He Shizi, Qin Xun, and Qin Lang to the living room for tea.
In less than half an hour, Little Milk Little Tuanzi was so sleepy he could barely keep his eyes open.
Little Little Tuanzi was unreasonable. When he started crying, he demanded to go home to sleep.
Only then did the Rong He Shizi put down his tea bowl, go over to pick him up, wrap the child in the beast-fur cloak, and check repeatedly to ensure he wasn't suffocating or freezing. Only then did he leave with Qin Xun and Qin Lang.
Back at the Rong Wang Fu, Qin Xun and Qin Lang did not enter the residence; they informed the Rong He Shizi and returned home.
When the Rong He Shizi carried Little Milk Little Tuanzi back to the courtyard, Qin Bi and Rong Ya were still waiting, not yet asleep.
