Chapter 526
Qin Bi's eyes widened slightly as she hurriedly picked up the little sweet radish.
"So small?" Qin Bi exclaimed, both delighted and surprised.
She had a premonition that this field held something good; she had thought it was a sweet potato field, where digging up one vine yielded a spiritual-energy sweet potato, and another vine yielded another, a whole field of such sweet potatoes.
Not a place where one had to search for a long time just to dig up a single spiritual-energy sweet potato.
After all, she felt the surprise went far beyond that.
Who could have imagined digging up a little sweet radish?
It was just too small.
"How could we dig up a little sweet radish?" Qin Lang was utterly astonished; these little sweet radishes were too rare, and they tasted delicious: "I thought the radish tops were wild vegetables."
The leaves looked too much like wild vegetables.
Without digging them up, one truly wouldn't believe these were radish leaves.
In winter, wild vegetables had a faint purple tint from the frost.
"I thought they were wild vegetables too." Qin Bi realized something and began digging for other wild vegetables.
She found a good spot to dig; the method for digging wild vegetables was different from digging little sweet radishes.
Digging wild vegetables only required scraping them off just above the ground, but little sweet radishes were buried in the soil and required several digs to unearth, as it was difficult to gauge the depth in the earth; one had to avoid injuring the little sweet radish while digging.
The winter soil was somewhat hard; in this world, compacted soil was common anyway.
The soil in the small space of the Demon Beast Realm was better and could grow crops, yet some soil remained compacted as it should be, forming small clumps that were gritty and sandy; these small clumps were not obvious in spring, summer, or autumn, but once the soil cooled in winter, they appeared.
Qin Bi used a small hoe to scrape a few times; the hoe was suitable only for tending vegetables, not for digging like a pickaxe. Qin Lang, standing nearby, grew nervous and took a small pickaxe from his storage bag, as he usually grew a few things at home.
There was no help for it; his family's Little Five Grains Abundance Cloud loved farming.
"Use the pickaxe." Qin Lang handed it to Qin Bi, then added, "Or, I can dig."
"I'll dig." Qin Bi took the small pickaxe: "I have good fortune."
Qin Lang was stunned: "Isn't it I who has good fortune?"
His sister had always said he had good fortune, and so did Rong Juan; walking around this area had even led Su He Shizi to call out to him and Rong Juan. If his sister had good fortune, she should have gone around with them too.
Qin Bi paused upon taking the small pickaxe, then smiled: "The Heavenly Dao cannot govern me."
Qin Lang didn't understand. Qin Bi swung the small pickaxe; it fell and dug once. A small pickaxe and a small hoe were simply different; one strike of the pickaxe made a hole, revealing a little sweet radish with its leaves still attached, buried in the soil.
"Another little sweet radish?" Qin Lang was overjoyed.
Qin Bi was also happy. She stopped using the pickaxe, which could injure the little sweet radishes, set it aside, and began digging the soil with her hands alongside Qin Lang. Finding it difficult, she picked up the small pickaxe again.
Soon, a fresh-looking, delicious little sweet radish was dug up.
Qin Bi and Qin Lang were extremely happy; they couldn't help but turn and look around, searching the surrounding ground for more of these wild-vegetable-like plants, which were actually little sweet radish leaves.
This glance was significant; Qin Lang's breath hitched, while Qin Bi's smile beamed.
"Could this whole area be little sweet radishes?" Qin Lang whispered to Qin Bi.
Although there were no other teams nearby, one must be cautious when finding something good; in the small space of the Demon Beast Realm, having no vigilance was absolutely impossible, leading to a quick death and the loss of one's treasures.
After all, killing others to seize their treasures was not uncommon.
Qin Lang understood his own team's position clearly.
Qin Bi dared not claim it was all of them, but with bright eyes, she suggested: "Let's go find another spot to dig and see."
The exact size of this large patch was unclear. Qin Lang nodded, and he and Qin Bi stood up. As far as the eye could see, the area was dotted with these wild-vegetable-like plants, which was incredible.
Why say that?
Leaving aside the past, just this time, many cultivation teams had been transported to this small space of the Demon Beast Realm. This area had fire demons, and those hunting fire demons had all come to this region.
Where fire demons were abundant, plant life was not rich. Vegetables and such grew on the ground; it wasn't that plants didn't grow, and there were medicinal herbs too, but in winter everything was dry and flat against the ground.
Even so, people still dug for wild vegetables and such.
Yet, no one had dug up a little sweet radish, while they had managed to find one.
Luck. The thought of luck popped into Qin Lang's mind; it was definitely that.
The other cultivation teams weren't blind; if they couldn't find one after one try, or two tries, how could they have gone on without finding a little sweet radish here? It was impossible to imagine.
If it was the blessing of luck, it would be different.
Qin Lang called Qin Bi and they set off: "Let's look and see how many more of these wild-vegetable-looking plants there are."
Qin Bi was also excited. The two wandered around; roughly several mu of land were covered with these little sweet radish leaves, though whether the soil contained actual little sweet radishes was uncertain.
That was easy to check. Qin Bi squatted down and took the small pickaxe to dig.
Qin Lang kept watch around them. In the distance, only their own team was visible; Su He Shizi's group was even farther away and not in sight. Crossing the higher ground, one could probably see Su He Shizi's team.
They were all engrossed in digging for spiritual-energy sweet potatoes.
Qin Bi dug up several in a row. Once the soil was cleared away, some were red and some were yellow; the little sweet radishes were quite attractive. Qin Bi and Qin Lang were truly surprised this time.
Qin Lang quickly helped Qin Bi pick up the little sweet radishes; Qin Bi had originally planned to take them back for the children to eat.
Since this whole area was full of little sweet radishes, Qin Bi gave Qin Lang a red one. Qin Bi, curious about the yellow ones, took a yellow one.
Qin Lang was delighted; he took out a handkerchief to wipe it for Qin Bi before eating.
The little sweet radish was too small. Qin Lang brushed off the dirt, then took the handkerchief Qin Bi offered to wipe it again. He took a tiny bite and was amazed, his expression filled with surprise.
"Crisp and sweet," Qin Lang said. "Sister, you try."
Qin Bi took a bite and was also surprised: "It really is crisp and sweet. It's so small; two bites and it's gone."
"Take a small bite," Qin Lang said, reluctant to finish it: "Eat it slowly."
Qin Bi finished the little sweet radish in a few bites. She was decisive and immediately went to find Qin Tan and the others. Qin Lang followed, beaming with joy. Qin Xun and Jiang Xu looked up, seeing Qin Lang's uncontainable grin, and were puzzled.
"What makes you so happy?" Qin Xun asked.
"My sister found something good," Qin Lang said in a low voice.
Qin Tan, Qin Di, Lin Yao, and the others walked over, and hearing this, they were surprised.
Qin Bi wasted no words, directly taking out several small sweet radishes to share among everyone. When Rong Juan saw the small sweet radishes, he was greatly surprised; where had they been hidden? How had he not seen this rare spiritual delicacy?
Lin Yao: "..."
Whose luck is this?
Why did their Young Master's wife happen to find such a rare spiritual delicacy?
Qin Di refused to eat: "Save it for your child."
Qin Bi rejoiced: "I found a patch; help me dig it up."
They all helped her dig, rather than everyone getting a share.
Qin Tan saw no fault in these words; since Qin Bi had found them, they naturally belonged to her.
