Chapter 56: Who Is It For?

~8 min read 1,478 words

That evening, Rong Juan gave the guards spirit stones to buy back spirit rice.

The little one saw this and said to Qin Bi, who was holding him: "Mother, Little Imperial Prince brother told me that Fu Bao doesn't lack spirit rice to eat; she eats spirit food every day, with spirit rice and spirit vegetables, and she even gets to eat from Imperial Uncle."

Qin Bi was not surprised at all; Qin He's child always found a way to get delicious food.

The child leaned on Qin Bi's shoulder and said, "Little Imperial Prince brother is very sad; he has nothing to eat."

Little Imperial Prince was probably dissatisfied. Qin Bi held great respect for the Great Yan Emperor and smiled at Rong Juan, saying, "Our Great Yan Emperor is an emperor blessed with fortune; his fortune is at the maximum level."

"Shouldn't he feed his own children?" Rong Juan asked, puzzled.

Qin Bi looked at the child, unsure if he was asking for himself or for Little Imperial Prince. She was powerless regarding Little Imperial Prince's situation; whatever the Great Yan Emperor did had his reasons.

However, Rong Juan's concerns were easy to resolve.

"Your father has doted on you since you were born; what do you want that he wouldn't give you?" Qin Bi said sincerely, "You are so blessed. I dote on you too, and the spirit food in our family is not given to other families' children."

Rong Juan's small face broke into a smile: "Rong Juan's."

Qin Bi smiled, deep in thought. Since Qin He wanted to compete, as long as Rong Juan received something from the Great Yan Emperor, Qin He's child would receive the same treatment; they would just have to wait and see.

He Yan has no children, so Qin He's child would claim to be He Yan's child.

Qin Bi scoffed, asked Rong Juan for a few sweet potatoes, about ten of various sizes. Rong Juan didn't ask many questions. Qin Bi found a bag to pack them, then held Rong Juan while tidying up.

The child's eyes widened roundly: "Who is it for?"

Seeing Qin Bi pack a bag of spirit food made Rong Juan worried. He had no strong feelings about his father from the Yan Guogong Prefecture giving Fu Bao things, but if anything from the Rong Wang Fu was touched, the child would cry.

"You always eat Imperial Uncle's spirit food; you must return the favor." Qin Bi hurriedly explained, holding the child and negotiating, "Your Imperial Prince brother can't even get spirit food. You have sweet potato spirit food; would you mind sharing some with Imperial Prince brother?"

The child sighed in relief; as long as it wasn't for Fu Bao.

"Okay." Rong Juan nodded.

Qin Bi happily said, "Sweet potato cakes are very delicious."

Rong Juan loved them and joined in the joy: "Delicious."

For dinner, they steamed sweet potato cakes mixed with spirit rice flour. The small cakes were baked golden brown, and the aroma spread as soon as the pot was lifted. Qin Bi ate one but dared not eat more; her appetite was small, and eating too much would make her feel stuffed.

Rong Juan nestled in Qin Bi's arms, eating the sweet potato cakes: "I can eat a lot."

"Later, when I go to the Immortal Sect, I'll buy you a chicken or duck raised by the Immortal Sect to eat." Rong Juan looked at Rong Juan, his eyebrows and eyes filled with affection. His child wanted to eat good things; it was no big deal.

Rong Juan's eyes widened again: "That's very expensive."

"It doesn't matter," Rong Juan said. "Father can afford to raise you."

Rong Juan happily laughed, eating several sweet potato cakes. He was a child who was loved and blessed. That night, the child counted the sweet potato spirit food in the bag again.

Qin Bi worried the child might dig through it too many times and peel the sweet potatoes.

Fortunately, the child was very careful and stored them neatly.

The next day, Rong Juan and Rong Juan went to court early. When the ministers saw the young heir carrying a bag, they immediately guessed; they figured it was a return gift, as last time he had brought a few sweet potatoes as a return gift.

"Rong Juan," the Minister of War asked, "What are you carrying?"

Rong Juan opened the bag to show the Minister of War. The Minister of Revenue nearby leaned in for a look, and the Prime Minister walked a few steps closer, naturally seeing it too; it was sweet potato spirit food.

"Sweet potatoes," Rong Juan said. "For Imperial Prince brother to eat."

This child is good. Several ministers glanced at the Rong Heir. Indeed, although the Rong Heir looked full of killing intent, the child he brought up was excellent and knew to return the favor after eating the Emperor's spirit food.

The Minister of Revenue looked at the Minister of War; this was far better than Qin He's child. Qin He's child had swallowed two auspicious clouds of the Great Yan Empire at birth, yet only asked for rewards without ever giving anything back.

He Yan glanced in their direction, narrowed his eyes, and took note of everyone's thoughts.

Once the Emperor ascended the court, Rong Juan listened to a few words, then took his ingredients to find Little Imperial Prince. Hearing that Rong Juan brother had brought them sweet potato spirit food, the Little Imperial Princes were momentarily stunned, then delighted, gathering to discuss how to eat them.

"My mother said sweet potato cakes are delicious," Rong Juan repeated.

"Then let's eat sweet potato cakes," said the older prince.

"Add spirit rice flour," Rong Juan added.

The Little Imperial Princes looked at each other. One went to find his Imperial Consort mother; her family was a noble house, so she surely had spirit rice. The Little Imperial Prince returned to his own palace and told her, and she produced one jin of spirit rice.

The Little Imperial Prince and Rong Juan ran to the Imperial Kitchen, waiting to eat the sweet potato cakes.

Inside the Rong Wang Fu, after breakfast, Lin Yao and Guard Yan were already waiting. They had planted half an acre of cabbage and radishes yesterday; if they worked diligently today, perhaps they could plant another half acre.

Qin Bi stepped into the teleportation array. Lin Yao activated it, and they instantly arrived at the Rong Heir's fiefdom.

A layer of snow covered the ground. The group stood stunned for a while before reacting. The guards walked out of the teleportation array, surprised and delighted, while Lin Yao even grabbed a handful of snow to feel it.

"I didn't expect it to actually snow," Lin Yao sighed.

In this cultivation world, rain and snow were scarce. When they left yesterday, it had started snowing, but in Lin Yao's view, this early winter snow would stop after a short while, leaving no trace on the ground.

Who knew it would actually snow a light snowfall.

"This snow scene is truly beautiful," Guard Yan said, his eyes shining.

The guards foolishly wandered around in the snow. Qin Bi was only briefly surprised before running to stand beside the radish field. She took out a tea bowl and summoned rain; instantly, a drizzle fell.

Thinking for a moment, Qin Bi pushed the rain over the vegetable field.

The snow on the ground met the rain and melted quickly, leaving the soil damp.

"Your Highness the Heir's Consort," Lin Yao said, heart aching, hurriedly blocking her, "There's no need to rain here, no need to rain here. Sending rain to water the vegetable field is a waste; the water should go to the dry areas. It was already thoroughly watered yesterday."

It had already rained. Qin Bi: "..."

She redirected the rain to fall beside the radish field, covering an area of about three mu. Anything more wouldn't be covered. She rained on each field one by one; the dry soil had snow on the surface, but underneath was completely dry earth.

How could crops grow like this? Qin Bi waved her hand, and the drizzle gradually became heavier. Lin Yao arranged for Guard Yan and others to summon plants to till the land, turning over the soil.

Qin Bi controlled the rain here for a while, then waved her hand again; the wind swept the rain diagonally across the vegetable field. After about the time it took to drink a cup of tea, the wind stopped, but the rain continued pouring. Qin Bi shifted her steps and continued raining.

After a while, the wind swept the rain over to the vegetable field again.

Lin Yao: "..."

Her water-controlling ability was poor, and her wind-controlling ability was no better; the vegetable fields no longer lacked water.
