Chapter 89: So Blessed

~8 min read 1,519 words

Rong Yu wanted to go to the Yan Guogong Prefecture but hesitated in his heart.

Qin He returned from Qin Yan Hou Prefecture to Xue Wang Prefecture; the maid's face was pale. Qin He asked a physician to examine her. The physician was a cultivator; after feeling the maid's pulse, he withdrew his hand.

"Her spiritual root is ruined," the physician said.

The maid's face turned even paler. Qin He could not believe it: "Impossible. She was merely waved away."

The physician said, "Indeed, her spiritual root is ruined."

Qin He did not believe it and found one of He Yan's advisors to examine the maid. It was confirmed: her spiritual root was ruined, and she had lost all cultivation base, making her equivalent to a useless person. The maid collapsed in despair, unable to believe it.

Xue Qing asked what had happened, puzzled: "For no reason at all, how could her spiritual root be ruined?"

Qin He did not know. This maid was a capable subordinate given to her by He Yan, who had done many things for her over the years. They had only exchanged harsh words at Qin Yan Hou Prefecture; neither side's guards had engaged in magical combat. How could one of her subordinates be ruined?

The cultivation base of the guards around Qin Bi was not much higher than those around her. There was no reason for a Green-level Martial Cultivator to be ruined under everyone's eyes, with Qin Bi merely waving her hand once. Could that ruin a spiritual root?!

Qin He did not mention it; Xue Qing did not know Qin Bi had acted.

Qin He was not protecting Qin Bi. She simply did not think someone with such a mixed spiritual root like Qin Bi possessed the ability to ruin a spiritual root. It was insignificant, not even worth considering, so Qin He did not bring it up.

Xue Qing was displeased: "I will go speak with Rong He Shizi about why you ruined one of your Martial Cultivators."

Qin He stopped him. She knew Rong He Shizi's temper well. Going to find Rong Juan would only invite mockery. Expecting Rong He Shizi to reprimand his subordinates was sheer fantasy. Besides, Qin He could not figure out who had struck the blow.

Thinking too much, Qin He disturbed her pregnancy qi. Xue Qing immediately used precious treasures of heaven and earth.

After learning the maid was ruined, He Yan's gaze remained calm. Ruined or not, it was fine. Back when Qin Bi was still his fiancée, this maid had dared to act. Ruining her was a light punishment.

Xue Qing sent someone to ask He Yan for precious medicinal materials. If there were good items, Yan Guogong Prefecture was wealthier than Xue Wang Prefecture, with birds, beasts, mountain delicacies, and sea treasures. The foundation of Yan Guogong Prefecture was more affluent than that of Xue Wang Prefecture.

He Yan met the person and, after listening, sent several items obtained from a small space within the Demon Beast Realm.

Qin He used the good items to nourish herself, which only alleviated things slightly, but her morning sickness was severe. Xue Qing was extremely anxious. Even the Xue Wang Fei visited Qin He's courtyard several times, worried that Qin He's inability to eat would harm the child.

Qin He was blessed, and the child she bore was also blessed. The Xue Wang Fei was very satisfied with Qin He.

Qin He was grateful, and the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship was harmonious.

Yan Guogong Prefecture kept sending things to Xue Wang Prefecture. The news spread throughout Jingcheng. Noble young ladies clutched their handkerchiefs, filled with envy, jealousy, and resentment. How could someone be so blessed and so doted upon?

Rong Yu stopped brooding. He was going to Yan Guogong Prefecture. Otherwise, his heart felt heavy. He might not acknowledge his father, but the people of Yan Guogong Prefecture could not protect Fubao and her mother.

Rong Yu was small, only six months old. He went to the palace and told the young Imperial Prince Yan Xun, who eagerly followed him. In winter, He Yan was rarely at home; he had just returned from the Demon Beast Realm space and wanted to rest at home for a few days.

A servant boy came to report: "He Shizi, the young Rong He Shizi and the young Imperial Prince have come to see you."

He Yan held a scroll in his study, turning the pages gently. Hearing this, he lifted his eyelids and glanced at the sky outside. It was a bright, sunny day. Every time the children came, they chose gloomy weather.

The children always played at the gate of the prefecture and never entered.

This time, they actually wanted to enter. He Yan thought for a moment: "Take them to the main hall."

The servant boy withdrew and shortly returned with the two children to the main hall. Rong Yu looked around Yan Guogong Prefecture. This place should have been his home; the child knew it in his heart and naturally wanted to take another look.

There was a charcoal stove in the main hall. It was not very warm, but not cold either.

He Yan went out to greet them, then entered the main hall and sat down. A guard carried the children and seated them on chairs. He Yan asked, "I wonder if the young He Shizi and the young Imperial Prince have come to my residence for a reason?"

The young Imperial Prince Yan Xun sat upright and pointed at Rong Yu: "He has something to say; I have nothing."

He Yan shifted his gaze, picked up his tea bowl, and drank. Clear tea was placed before the children; strong tea was unsuitable for them. Both the young Imperial Prince and the young He Shizi were of noble status, and even though they were small, they could not be treated with disrespect.

"What does the young He Shizi want from me?" He Yan asked.

"Is the person around Fubao's mother your person?" Rong Yu asked, sitting upright.

He Yan understood, set down his tea bowl, and said, "I gave her. What about it?"

"Your person protects Fubao's mother and treats my mother poorly." Rong Yu looked at He Yan, his voice milk-sweet yet his expression serious: "Withdraw that person. People of Yan Guogong Prefecture cannot protect others."

He Yan did not agree: "Who sent you?"

Rong Yu said, "I wanted to come myself."

The young Imperial Prince added, "He wanted to come himself."

He Yan fell silent, gazing at Rong Yu: "Why should I listen to you? Fubao is someone I watched grow up. Sending someone to protect her is only natural. The young He Shizi's request is excessive."

Rong Yu climbed down from the chair, walked unsteadily to He Yan, and looked up: "Father."

He Yan's eyebrows twitched, but he did not respond. Rong Juan's son was going too far. To make him withdraw the person, he actually called him father. If Rong Juan found out, how angry would he be?

"I call you father," Rong Yu said. "Can't you withdraw that person?"

He Yan spoke: "You are Rong Juan's son."

Rong Yu's eyes turned red. Looking up with his small face, he said, "I look like you."

He Yan looked at the child a few more times. The child's eyes were moist. Suddenly, He Yan's heart tightened strangely. Examining closely, the child's features were familiar. He had thought the child resembled Rong Juan or Qin Bi.

He Yan gazed at the child, his eyes flashing, his heartbeat quickening.

Rong Yu leaned into He Yan's embrace, aggrieved: "Withdraw that person. If you don't, what should I do?"

The child was about to cry, calling out: "Father."

He Yan's chest ached with a tight pain. Looking at the child in his arms, soft and pliable, he had never paid him much attention before. Qin Bi's child. He Yan did not want excessive entanglement, yet now the child had come to find him on his own.

"He is not your father," the young Imperial Prince spoke up.

"He is," Rong Yu affirmed.

He Yan's heart twisted. When had he married Qin Bi? He had deliberately forgotten. And when was this child born? He Yan pondered silently, saying nothing.

"No, no..." The young Imperial Prince pulled Rong Yu.

Rong Yu looked up at He Yan: "Father."

He Yan instinctively picked the child up. Rong Yu looked down at the young Imperial Prince and said, "He is."

The young Imperial Prince was worried: "Let's go, let's go. We won't come again."

He Yan felt a heaviness in his heart. Rong Yu did not leave; instead, he turned back to He Yan, still thinking of the matter: "Father, withdraw that person. Otherwise, I won't be able to come to Yan Guogong Prefecture anymore."

If the people of Yan Guogong Prefecture protected Qin He and made things difficult for Qin Bi, Rong Yu could not accept it.

He Yan was a powerful minister with extraordinary strategy. Looking at the child, he gave an order: "Withdraw that person."
