Chapter 128
In the early morning, when the first ray of sunshine shone on the earth, Zhang Fan had already, as wished, sat on Ba Ke Er's beast-form back and flown outward from the Tribe.
Along the way, Zhang Fan kept looking around on Ba Ke Er's back, searching everywhere. At that moment, Ba Ke Er suddenly noticed a group of violent dragon beasts going mad, fighting each other fiercely in the distance.
Seeing that, Ba Ke Er hovered in midair like that, while Zhang Fan's attention had originally been on the surrounding mountains; now Ba Ke Er suddenly stopped, and he gradually sensed that something unusual was happening.
Curiously asking Ba Ke Er the reason, upon learning that ahead there were roughly a dozen dragon beasts fighting, he also became unsettled. Almost at the same moment, he suddenly stood up on Ba Ke Er's back, stretched his neck, and looked in the direction Ba Ke Er pointed.
He had no idea that his sudden standing would scare Ba Ke Er half to death! Ba Ke Er even felt himself so frightened that his breathing stopped abruptly, and even his heart felt like it was about to jump out!
Ba Ke Er, with great effort, finally steadied himself; to prevent Zhang Fan from falling, he even tightly wrapped his tail around Zhang Fan's waist.
At the same time, he diverted half his attention to Zhang Fan, fearing that if he were inattentive or if Zhang Fan lost his footing, he would drop his beloved treasure! If that really happened, it would be a sin! And he would never forgive himself!
While Ba Ke Er was still hovering in midair, with half his attention still on Zhang Fan, Zhang Fan suddenly became even more excited! That excitement almost made him fall, but fortunately Ba Ke Er had already tightly wrapped his tail around his waist, saving him from the danger of falling from the air.
At this moment, Ba Ke Er felt even more grateful for having taken that precaution, while also silently lamenting in his heart that having such a trusting companion was also not a good thing.
After surviving that recent fright, Zhang Fan patted his chest, caught his breath, and sat firmly once more on Ba Ke Er's back. Seeing Zhang Fan settled, Ba Ke Er could not yet relax and retrieve his tail; instead, he wound it even more tightly around him.
At that moment, Zhang Fan suddenly lunged forward with force, throwing himself onto Ba Ke Er's body and tightly embracing his big head. With a slightly aggrieved tone, mixed with a pitiful plea and the relief of having survived a disaster, he whispered to Ba Ke Er:
"Ba Ke Er, thank you! It's all my fault for being careless, which made you worry!"
After saying that, Zhang Fan sat up again, turned Ba Ke Er's big head with his hand, aimed at his eyes, nose, and lips, and planted several kisses, then gently brought his own face close and lightly rubbed it.
Ba Ke Er, needless to say, knew that was quite happy! Still, he forced himself to steady his expression and whispered a few sentences in beast language into Zhang Fan's ear.
Zhang Fan is now different from before; ever since the Beast God granted him the right to learn the Tribe's script, it also bestowed upon him the ability to understand beast language.
Zhang Fan listened to Ba Ke Er's words, then kissed his eyes and moist nose again. Speaking to Ba Ke Er with a tone three parts flattering and seven parts apologetic, and with a completely sincere expression, he said: "All right, Ba Ke Er, please forgive me! I swear there won't be a next time!"
Seeing Zhang Fan's sincere oath, Ba Ke Er no longer pursued the matter, nor did he wonder why Zhang Fan had suddenly become so agitated. At that moment, Zhang Fan suddenly recalled that very important matter!
"Ba Ke Er, look quickly ahead! That's the group of violent dragon beasts you just pointed out to me! They actually ate the corpses of their own dead companions as food! It's horrifying! But it seems there are still many freshly dead bodies there; I estimate they can't finish them all, so… shall we go collect them?"
Zhang Fan pointed at the violent dragon beasts ahead and said excitedly.
Ba Ke Er, the loyal dog attacker who always takes every word of his beloved seriously, upon hearing Zhang Fan's words, immediately flapped his wings again and flew toward the violent dragon beasts.
Before Ba Ke Er had even flown above the violent dragon beasts, the whole group had already begun to act frenzied and uneasy! Not only because they smelled the ferocious beast aura emanating from Ba Ke Er!
Moreover, because they had just gone through a life‑and‑death battle, they were now spent forces. Zhang Fan noticed the beasts' reaction and immediately took out the prepared knockout drug packet.
Directing Ba Ke Er to fly straight above the violent dragon beasts, he quickly spotted the spot where the living beasts were most concentrated and threw the packet down.
Although the distance between Zhang Fan and Ba Ke Er made no difference for this throw, the violent dragon beasts on the ground where it landed were in for a nasty surprise: as soon as the packet hit the ground, it suddenly burst open.
The powder inside the packet drifted out with the wind, scattering around the violent dragon beasts. Even though the packet was small, the wind still spread its contents throughout the whole group.
At that moment, one could see the violent dragon beasts on the ground, which had been somewhat frenzied and uneasy, collapsing one after another.
Zhang Fan was overjoyed at the sight! Excited, he flung himself onto Ba Ke Er's back, grabbed his big head, and planted a fervent kiss, making Ba Ke Er feel extraordinarily happy!
At this moment, Ba Ke Er couldn't help thinking to himself: letting Zhang Fan secretly tag along really was a clear choice! Hahaha… look, how happy I am now!
While Ba Ke Er was still lost in his daydreams, unable to pull himself out, Zhang Fan had already had enough of the excitement down below.
"Ba Ke Er, Ba Ke Er! What's wrong with you? Hurry up and land! Those violent dragon beasts are all knocked out! Let's go down quickly, kill them, and stash them in the Yu pan zhi!"
Zhang Fan called out several times but saw no reaction from Ba Ke Er, and even thought he had fallen asleep! Yet seeing the tail still tightly wound around his waist and the white wings lightly flapping, every sign silently told Zhang Fan that Ba Ke Er was still awake.
Zhang Fan patiently called out Ba Ke Er several more times, but still got no response, and he began to feel a bit displeased.
With a forceful swing of his right hand, he slapped Ba Ke Er's golden‑colored big head with a "pa!" At that moment, Ba Ke Er yielded to Zhang Fan's "violence" and returned from his own world.
The first thing Ba Ke Er did after regaining his senses was not to complain that his head hurt from Zhang Fan's blow, but to affectionately rub Zhang Fan's right hand, which he had not yet withdrawn.
Then, in beast language, he said to Zhang Fan: "Fan Fan, does your hand hurt? It's all my fault for always daydreaming—don't be angry! I'll immediately find a place to land."
Zhang Fan wasn't really angry either; he was just a bit upset that Ba Ke Er ignored him. Now that Ba Ke Er had apologized, he no longer dwelled on the matter.
As soon as Ba Ke Er landed, Zhang Fan couldn't wait to grab the sharp bone knife Ba Ke Er had given him and ran toward the violent dragon beasts.
However, he failed to notice that one violent dragon beast still had its eyes open, clearly not looking dazed. Just as Zhang Fan passed by this heavily wounded beast that had already been knocked out,
suddenly, that violent dragon beast rolled over and pounced Zhang Fan to the ground. At that moment, Zhang Fan was pressed down by the beast's sudden lunge and nearly fainted.
When the beast's foul‑smelling maw was less than a centimeter from Zhang Fan's neck, he suddenly felt his body lighten. Summoning courage, he opened his eyes—and saw that Ba Ke Er had already flipped that violent dragon beast off him and onto the ground.
In the flash of an instant, Ba Ke Er used his sharp claws to end the violent dragon beast's life.
Seeing that, Zhang Fan secretly let out a breath of relief. Supporting himself with his hands, before he could even push himself up, Ba Ke Er had already set the beast down, shifted into human form, walked over, and helped him up.
After Ba Ke Er helped him up, Zhang Fan kept tightly holding Ba Ke Er's hand, following behind him as they slowly walked to the side of the violent dragon beast that Ba Ke Er had just killed.
Upon seeing the gruesome death of that violent dragon beast, Zhang Fan involuntarily burst out laughing. He even swaggered forward and kicked it several times, as if the person who had just been scared half‑senseless were not him at all.
"Hahaha, you've got your day too! Just now you were so arrogant, wanting to bite me to death—hahaha… now go ahead, bite! Bite! Humph, you can't bite me now, but I'm going to eat you!"
Ba Ke Er, standing nearby, heard Zhang Fan's boastful words and unintentionally broke into a smile. He walked over, embraced Zhang Fan, lowered his head, and imprinted a kiss on his forehead.
After the tender moment, Zhang Fan, accompanied by Ba Ke Er, killed the remaining unconscious violent dragon beasts one by one, then stuffed them one by one into the Yu pan zhi.
Once the entire violent dragon beast herd had been packed into the Yu pan zhi, Zhang Fan took out a full waterskin from it, and together with Ba Ke Er they washed their hands clean.
By now it was approaching noon; after all that activity, Zhang Fan was already starving to the point of his front touching his back, and he could even faintly hear his stomach's irregular "gurgle" sounds.
Ba Ke Er then realized that, unintentionally again, he had let Zhang Fan go hungry—what a sin! Immediately, he shifted into beast form, carrying Zhang Fan as they flew toward the nearest small river.
Upon arrival, Zhang Fan, holding a grudge, released that violent dragon beast which had almost bitten him to death from the Yu pan zhi and threw it directly onto the riverbank strewn with pebbles.
Ba Ke Er saw this, was not surprised, merely found it a bit funny, shook his head, walked over, and ruffled Zhang Fan's hair.
For lunch, the two ate the hind leg meat of that violent dragon beast; although Zhang Fan would have preferred the neck, Ba Ke Er stopped him, knowing that Zhang Fan does not eat neck meat—each time he did, he felt unwell for days.
Zhang Fan looked at the violent dragon beast missing a leg, gritted his teeth in resentment, and once again stuffed the beast into the Yu pan zhi.
After finishing lunch and cleaning up the traces of the fire, Zhang Fan again sat on Ba Ke Er's back, and Ba Ke Er carried him as they flew toward the Tribe.
All along the way, whenever Zhang Fan thought of himself as a man capable of scooping up an entire group of violent dragon beasts in one pot, he felt his whole being brimming with ambition and lofty aspirations!
He even told Ba Ke Er, "Please call me the 'Scavenger King'!"
Because of that, Ba Ke Er ended up suppressing laughter all the way. Zhang Fan, meanwhile, seemed unaware of it. The whole trip was in good spirits!
