Chapter 144: Baby Carrier?
Zhang Fan and Ba Ke Er, as a couple, rushed into their home as soon as they arrived, and after closing the doors and windows, they carefully placed the basket on the bed.
Seeing Zhang Fan put the basket down, Ba Ke Er hurriedly took the dragon egg out of the basket and held it tightly in his arms, his action clearly imitating how a big bird hatches its chicks.
But Zhang Fan felt something was off about Ba Ke Er's appearance at that moment—who incubates eggs like this? Artificial incubation either burns firewood to heat the kang or uses a warming lamp, right?
Although where we live now has no kang, no warming lamp, and not even electricity! The only thing that can generate power is Zhang Fan's hand-crank phone charger.
But that's low-power, it can't even drive a warming lamp, let alone when we don't even have an ordinary electric light, much less a warming lamp!
So, in Zhang Fan's view, those egg-incubation methods from Earth are useless on this primitive planet. He lowered his head, thought for a moment, and decided it would be better to first try some more practical methods.
So, Zhang Fan raised his head, smirking with ill intent, and said to Ba Ke Er, who was clutching the dragon egg and refusing to let go:
"Ba Ke Er, why don't you first go to the storeroom and see if you can find some soft, warm, and sturdy hides? We'll try to make a nest for our dragon egg, and incidentally make a baby carrier for us father and son."
Poor Ba Ke Er, his heart was completely immersed in the joy of soon becoming a father; he didn't even notice Zhang Fan's expression, and foolishly handed the dragon egg over to Zhang Fan's hands while grinning.
Then he obediently hurried off to the storeroom to look for hides. Of course, even if he had seen Zhang Fan's expression, he might have gladly done it anyway.
After all, for Ba Ke Er, whatever Zhang Fan asks him to do, he'll do it without complaint. Now it's just a matter of fetching some hides—not a big deal. He could finish it in a minute, without any trouble.
However, Ba Ke Er forgot to ask Zhang Fan what a baby carrier was, and precisely because of this small oversight, he would suffer terribly in the days to come!
By then, Ba Ke Er had already fetched a number of hides from the storeroom, each one carefully selected according to Zhang Fan's requirements—soft, warm, and sturdy.
Zhang Fan looked at the hides with satisfaction and gave Ba Ke Er's cheek an appreciative kiss. Seeing this, Ba Ke Er, whose mouth was already stretched wide from smiling, instantly grinned so wide it reached the base of his ears.
Seeing this, Zhang Fan felt both helpless and amused. It's just a kiss—why so happy? But whenever Zhang Fan imagined Ba Ke Er's appearance after the baby carrier was done, he couldn't help laughing out loud.
Seeing Zhang Fan laugh, Ba Ke Er quickly lowered his head, seized Zhang Fan's lips, and planted a big, hard kiss before letting go.
Zhang Fan's good mood instantly shattered; he gave Ba Ke Er a white-eye, then took out scissors, needle, and thread and began busily making the baby carrier.
Meanwhile, Ba Ke Er, upon seeing Zhang Fan give him a white-eye, felt no distress; instead, he became even more smug, picked up the dragon egg, walked over to Zhang Fan, aimed at his cheek, and planted a hard kiss.
Regarding Ba Ke Er's childish behavior, Zhang Fan was utterly speechless; this time, being busy making the baby carrier, he simply ignored Ba Ke Er.
Seeing Zhang Fan ignore him, Ba Ke Er, in a huff, kissed him a few more times, but still getting no reaction, he grew bored, so he clutched the dragon egg and crawled back onto the bed, beginning to mutter to the egg.
Time passed unnoticed, and by the time Zhang Fan finished sewing the baby carrier, it was almost noon. Only then did he realize that Ba Ke Er was no longer in the bedroom.
Now the bedroom held only Zhang Fan and the single dragon egg. Zhang Fan shook his head, rubbed his eyes, which were sore from prolonged use, then took the baby carrier and walked to the bedside.
After placing the baby carrier on the bed, Zhang Fan lifted the covers, felt inside, and discovered the bedding was still warm—indicating Ba Ke Er had only just left.
After glancing at his watch, Zhang Fan realized that, without noticing, it was nearly mealtime. From this he guessed Ba Ke Er's reason for leaving: that guy must have gone to cook rice!
So Zhang Fan thought it over and gave up the idea of putting the dragon egg in the baby carrier, instead letting the egg stay in the bedding.
After all, the baby carrier was still cold and unsuitable for incubating the egg for now, so it was better to let it remain in the warm bedding. Having decided, Zhang Fan took the baby carrier in his hand and left the bedroom.
At that moment, Ba Ke Er had just finished preparing lunch, was about to rush into the bedroom to see Zhang Fan come out to eat, when he saw Zhang Fan already carrying something of indeterminate shape into the kitchen.
The instant Zhang Fan saw Ba Ke Er, he couldn't help imagining Ba Ke Er in beast form, using the baby carrier to sling the dragon egg against his belly. Just thinking of that ridiculous image made Zhang Fan want to laugh.
However, to ensure the plan succeeded, he had to restrain himself; doing so, Zhang Fan himself felt nothing wrong. But Ba Ke Er, who was constantly watching him, could see every subtle facial expression of Zhang Fan crystal clearly.
Because Ba Ke Er knew Zhang Fan too well, that glance almost let him guess Zhang Fan's inner thoughts to a nine-out-of-ten accuracy. Although Ba Ke Er had figured out Zhang Fan's idea, he cleverly pretended not to know.
Instead, he wanted Zhang Fan to personally tell him his idea. Of course, for Zhang Fan, who was lost in his own imagination and unable to extricate himself, Ba Ke Er's reactions went unnoticed.
After finishing lunch, Zhang Fan didn't, as usual, eagerly volunteer to wash dishes, nor did he ask Ba Ke Er to do it; instead, he directly pulled Ba Ke Er along, taking the baby carrier with them into the bedroom.
As soon as they entered the bedroom, Zhang Fan grinned and said to Ba Ke Er, "Ba Ke Er, I really want to see your beast form right now—what should we do?"
Upon hearing that, Ba Ke Er immediately shifted from half-beast form to full beast form. He then rubbed his tail against Zhang Fan's arm, his ears—almost a full circle larger than in half-beast form—twitched slightly, as if he were being coquettish.
At that moment, seeing Ba Ke Er transformed into beast form, Zhang Fan could hardly restrain himself. In a flash, swift as thunder and too fast to cover one's ears, he draped the newly sewn baby carrier over Ba Ke Er's waist.
Seeing Zhang Fan's hands begin to wander all over his body, paying special attention to his waist and abdomen, Ba Ke Er couldn't help but feel his heart flutter.
What the hell is this situation? Could it be that Fan Fan suddenly wants to have a go with my beast form? Thinking of that, Ba Ke Er instantly refused to cooperate, since the hardware sizes are different—indeed they don't match!
If this ended up hurting Fan Fan, I'd feel guilty for a lifetime! Just thinking that my impulsiveness could leave Fan Fan bedridden for life makes me feel awful.
Thus, Ba Ke Er also began to resist, twisting his body so Zhang Fan's hands wouldn't touch his waist and abdomen, afraid that any reaction from his body would be seen by Zhang Fan.
When Zhang Fan noticed Ba Ke Er's lack of cooperation, he also couldn't hold back. He slapped Ba Ke Er's head hard and said, somewhat annoyed:
"Ba Ke Er, what the hell are you thinking about? It's not even dark yet, and you're already thinking about that? Stop moving around! You're messing me up—if the dragon egg fails to hatch, it'll all be your fault!"
Upon hearing Zhang Fan say that, Ba Ke Er realized his little thoughts had long been seen through, and he had completely misunderstood Zhang Fan's intention.
Thinking about it, even if Ba Ke Er had a thick skin, he couldn't help but start blushing; but since he was currently in beast form, his face was covered in thick fur, making the blush impossible to see.
Thus, sometimes, even when utterly embarrassed, as long as one has something extra on the face to hide behind, people feel completely at ease—just like this could cover everything up.
Needless to say, that's exactly what Ba Ke Er was thinking at that moment.
After Zhang Fan finally fastened the baby carrier securely on Ba Ke Er's back, he discovered it seemed a bit too short, making it impossible to tuck the dragon egg into the front pocket.
Moreover, this baby carrier was tightening Ba Ke Er so much he could barely breathe. Seeing this, Zhang Fan had no choice but to first undo the carrier.
The instant the baby carrier was undone, Ba Ke Er felt as if he had been reborn, for that carrier had indeed been squeezing him to the point of barely being able to breathe.
Even at one moment, he seemed to see the Beast God smiling, arms open to embrace him. Of course, he never told Zhang Fan about this, fearing it would make him feel guilty.
This shows that Ba Ke Er was thinking a lot; regardless of whether Zhang Fan would feel guilty, the fact that he never mentioned it to Zhang Fan reveals how much he cares about Zhang Fan, to the point of neglecting his own feelings.
After removing the baby carrier, Zhang Fan busied himself with lengthening it. Fortunately, this wasn't entirely a technical task; one just needed to add a strip of cloth to the ends of the two straps.
So, not long after, Zhang Fan finished modifying the baby carrier. Once it was ready again, he began experimenting with Ba Ke Er.
Fortunately, the straps had been lengthened enough this time, so Ba Ke Er didn't feel constricted; on the contrary, he found it quite comfortable.
However, once Zhang Fan placed the dragon egg into the hide pouch, Ba Ke Er stopped thinking that way, since a beast's belly is naturally the warmest, softest part of its body, and its own temperature is already high enough.
Now, with an additional dragon egg wrapped in thick hide, Ba Ke Er felt even hotter. Still, even a bit more heat, he thought, was tolerable.
What he couldn't stand most was the dragon egg's weight, and his own ridiculous appearance at the moment. Without even looking, Ba Ke Er could already picture himself in his mind's eye!
