Chapter 185: No Meat, No Joy
The next day, as soon as Zhang Fan woke up, he heard Ba Ke Er talking with someone in the main room, and the voice sounded extremely familiar. Full of curiosity, Zhang Fan immediately rolled out of bed, and after putting on his clothes and shoes, he walked out holding his belly.
Upon stepping outside, he saw that it was Fei Er and Mo De, the couple. Both wore happy expressions, their faces glowing red; it was clear they had encountered some joyous event.
Before Zhang Fan could speak, Fei Er, who had been sitting properly on the stool, jumped up, bounced over to Zhang Fan's side, grabbed his arm, and began to pout as he said:
"Fan Fan! Why did you get up so late? I've been waiting for you forever! I told Ba Ke Er to wake you up, but he refused! Humph! Now that you're grown, you don't listen to your older brother anymore! How annoying! Come help me teach him a lesson!"
Mo De, standing nearby, looked at Fei Er's lively energy and almost jumped in fright; his whole attention was on Fei Er, his eyes fixed on Fei Er's every move, fearing he might make a mistake.
As for Mo De's behavior, Fei Er was already used to it. After all, they had lived together for several years as a couple, and Fei Er knew Mo De's little tricks inside out.
However, Zhang Fan found Mo De's behavior quite surprising. Although Mo De used to dote on Fei Er, now he felt something was off. Mo De clearly paid more attention to Fei Er now.
Zhang Fan found this puzzling, so he asked Fei Er for an explanation.
"Fei Er, what's wrong with your Mo De? Why does his gaze seem glued to you? He stares at you without blinking! What's going on with him?"
As soon as Zhang Fan finished speaking, Fei Er burst into loud laughter, laughing exaggeratedly and even patting Zhang Fan on the shoulder.
Seeing Fei Er's huge gesture, Mo De and Ba Ke Er both panicked, leaping to their respective partners' sides and pulling Zhang Fan and Fei Er apart.
Having just been pulled apart, Zhang Fan was still dazed, looking blankly at Ba Ke Er and asking, "What's wrong? Fei Er didn't hit me hard at all! Why are you so nervous?"
Ba Ke Er looked at Zhang Fan and said calmly, "Let's first see what's happening with Fei Er, then you'll understand."
Before Ba Ke Er's words even faded, Zhang Fan followed his gaze and looked toward Fei Er.
On the other side, Fei Er's reaction after being pulled away was completely different from Zhang Fan's. He glared at Mo De with eyes flashing like sparks, face full of anger, hands on hips, shouting at Mo De:
"What are you doing?! I just laughed a little—do you have to be this tense? You won't even let me laugh—are you still the original Mo De? Humph! Since yesterday, you've been staring at me, stopping me from doing this, then stopping me from doing that! Are you really that annoying?"
Mo De saw Fei Er fly into such a rage and could barely control his own emotions, but then, for some unknown reason, he suddenly calmed down, forced an awkward smile, gently touched Fei Er's belly, and said softly:
"Be good, dear, don't torture yourself like that! Look, Fan Fan's belly is so big—if you hurt him, that wouldn't be good! Besides, your belly also holds our baby! Don't get angry—being upset is terrible, right?"
Unexpectedly, Mo De's words worked; as soon as he finished speaking, Fei Er gradually calmed down, turned around, and looked guiltily at Zhang Fan and Ba Ke Er, the couple, saying:
"Sorry, Fan Fan—it's all my fault; I shouldn't have used that much force on you. Are you okay? Should we go see my Am? If something happened, nobody would let me off the hook."
Zhang Fan was already shocked by Mo De's words; he didn't even hear what Fei Er said, just widened his eyes, walked over to Fei Er, placed his hands on Fei Er's shoulders, and exclaimed excitedly:
"Fei Er! You're pregnant too! Great! Hahaha! It looks like what Nuoya said will come true soon!"
Seeing that Zhang Fan wasn't blaming him, Fei Er's mood rose with Zhang Fan's voice. He eagerly wrapped his arms around Zhang Fan's shoulders, nodding uncontrollably, and exclaimed joyfully:
"Yes! Yes! It's wonderful! I've been with Mo De for so many years—finally we have a child! Hahaha! Hearing you say that, I also remembered Nuoya saying last time she hoped we four could go to the Tribe and play with the kids! Hahaha!"
"Exactly! Exactly! That's what I meant! By the way, you came over so early today—could it be just to tell me you're pregnant?" After his excitement faded, Zhang Fan gradually calmed down and realized he still hadn't asked Fei Er why he came over so early.
As soon as Zhang Fan finished speaking, Fei Er stopped laughing, glanced sideways at Mo De, saw he was busy talking with Ba Ke Er, seeking advice, not paying attention here, so he relaxed, leaned close to Zhang Fan's ear, and began to whisper.
"Fan Fan, it's like this: yesterday I came home after making dinner and just fainted. Then Mo De, who had just returned home, found me and took me to my Am for a checkup, and Am said I'm pregnant."
When Zhang Fan heard Fei Er say he had fainted yesterday, he also grew tense, looking worriedly at Fei Er and asking urgently, "What happened to you? Is it malnutrition or lack of sleep?"
Fei Er saw how much Zhang Fan cared about his condition, felt warm inside, quickly shook his head, and then said:
"No! Am said it was because I didn't keep warm, so I got a fever and fainted. When I got there, he gave me medicine. I only found out I was pregnant after I woke up."
Having said that, Fei Er furtively glanced at Mo De again, saw he wasn't looking this way, and continued speaking to Zhang Fan:
"Fan Fan, you wouldn't believe it! When Mo De told me I was pregnant, I somehow ended up blurting out that I had sneaked out to play, and then Mo De got angry and said he wanted to settle the score with me!"
"At that moment, hearing him say that, I instantly felt furious, jumped up, pointed at his nose and started cursing—I never expected that when my Am and father came over, they'd actually take his side, humph!"
He let out a soft hum, rolled his eyes, and continued, "After that, he hasn't stopped watching me for a moment! Even his guard duty was handed over to others—he's fixated on me like a thief‑catcher, afraid I'll sneak off again!"
After hearing Fei Er's account, Zhang Fan gradually understood what was going on. Once Fei Er finished speaking, Zhang Fan pulled him to sit together on the stool and began to complain about his own situation, hoping to ease Fei Er's worries.
"Fei Er, I now understand your situation! Put simply, your Mo De doesn't trust you, afraid you'll run out and freeze yourself, so he's come along with you."
"Besides, look at me—since the day I was found pregnant, has Ba Ke Er ever left my side by more than ten steps? I go wherever, and he follows."
"Look, my baby's almost due, and he's even more nervous—just now, when you patted my shoulder, he came rushing over like a madman to pull me apart. I'm being managed to the point of annoyance! He won't even let me drink water on my own; he insists on pouring it for me."
"I think, if it weren't for Le Le needing someone to look after him, he'd probably control me even more strictly!"
After hearing Zhang Fan's words, Fei Er instantly felt that, compared to Fan Fan, he was still doing okay—at least his Mo De wasn't as insane as Ba Ke Er.
Just thinking about the difference between Mo De and Ba Ke Er, Fei Er suddenly remembered that Mo De seemed to be still learning from Ba Ke Er! Goodness! If Mo De also learned Ba Ke Er's tricks, wouldn't he be even worse off?
So Fei Er decisively ran from Zhang Fan's side, rushed to Mo De and Ba Ke Er, grabbed the bewildered Mo De's hand, and took off running nonstop, as if something were chasing them from behind, all the while bidding farewell to Zhang Fan and his partner.
"Fei Er, Ba Ke Er! Mo De and I still have some business! We won't keep chatting—we're leaving now! Goodbye!"
Seeing this, Zhang Fan also felt that Fei Er was somewhat inclined to deviate, guessing it was because he feared that if Mo De followed Ba Ke Er he'd be led astray, so he hurriedly took him away.
Although Zhang Fan really wanted to speak up to stop Fei Er, at that moment the inner room sounded with Le Le's crying. To avoid making Le Le wait, Zhang Fan had to say goodbye to Fei Er, and although Ba Ke Er felt somewhat puzzled by Fei Er's sudden action, he did not investigate further.
Fei Er pulled Mo De out of Zhang Fan's house, then released his hand, looked up at the hazy Mo De, and said with a grin, "Mo De! I suddenly want to eat the barbecue you made! Let's go home!"
Hearing Fei Er say he wanted barbecue, Mo De dared not refuse! Although he felt a bit doubtful, he chose to bury it in his heart. Lowering his gaze to Fei Er's cute face, seeing the healthy flush, Mo De felt reassured and said gently:
"Although we just finished breakfast not long ago, since you're hungry, dear, let's hurry home! We can't let you and the little one in your belly go hungry!"
Having said that, Mo De scooped Fei Er up in a horizontal hold, then unfolded his wings and flew toward their home. While flying, Mo De didn't forget to shield Fei Er from the wind, fearing he'd catch a cold.
As soon as they arrived home, Fei Er couldn't wait to jump from Mo De's arms. Mo De, seeing this, thought Fei Er was impatient from hunger, so he hurried to the backyard. Not long after, Fei Er saw Mo De carrying a freshly killed rabbit into the kitchen.
The moment he smelled the blood on Mo De, Fei Er almost gagged, but fortunately Mo De quickly entered the kitchen, and the breeze that had just blown in carried the odor away.
After waiting a while, Fei Er also grew hungry. Although he had just said he wanted barbecue offhandedly, he was now truly hungry, hearing his stomach growl "gurgle," he felt he could hardly bear it.
In his heart he silently counted, waiting for Mo De to bring out the cooked rabbit meat, yet left and right he still waited in vain, and his emotions began to slip, he let out a furious roar:
"Mo De! What are you doing?! I'm about to starve! Did you hear me?! Me—and your son! —we're about to starve! Hurry up!"
Just then, before Fei Er finished shouting, Mo De was already smiling, holding a neatly arranged plate of grilled rabbit meat, walking out of the kitchen.
"Fei Er, come over and eat quickly! Aren't you hungry?" Mo De smiled at the still‑dazed Fei Er, his face full of indulgence.
Upon hearing Mo De's words, Fei Er could no longer hold back, and smelling the meaty aroma in the air made him even more unable to resist—he shot forward, grabbed the plate, and began to wolf down the food.
Mo De smiled at Fei Er and quickly said, "Eat slowly! No one's competing with you—don't choke!"
