Chapter 29: Chapter Thirty

Next morning, when Zhang Fan got up, he saw Ba Ke Er already preparing breakfast. Yesterday Ba Ke Er had agreed with the chieftain to take everyone to harvest the rice. Seeing Zhang Fan up, Ba Ke Er smiled and said:

"Fan Fan, come over and eat. In a bit I'll take everyone to harvest the rice. Do you want to come along? After we bring everyone to the rice field, we'll go check out some other place, how about that?"

"Can I go too? That's wonderful! I can also, by the way, also go see if there's anything else to eat."

After saying that, the two started eating breakfast. Midway through, many tribespeople came outside, all chatting. Zhang Fan heard the outside noise growing louder, so he asked Ba Ke Er.

"What's going on outside? Why is it so loud?"

"The people outside are all waiting for us to set off together. We need to eat quickly so we can go out and have more fun later." Ba Ke Er replied with a smile.

"Okay," said Zhang Fan, then he sped up and finished his own breakfast.

Since we're going out to play, Ba Ke Er brought some of the prepared barbecue sauce and various dried meats that Zhang Fan had ready, bringing the most of the tender bird jerky. After so long of adapting, Zhang Fan can now eat quite a bit of meat, and his appetite is much better than when he first arrived. However, in Ba Ke Er's view, Zhang Fan's appetite is only a little better than that of a ten‑year‑old cub. Even so, there is still some change, right?

As soon as Zhang Fan and Ba Ke Er stepped out, they saw Fei Er and Mo De also there.

"Hey! Fan Fan and Ba Ke Er, you're really slow! Didn't you say you were going to harvest the rice?" Fei Er said upon seeing Zhang Fan and Ba Ke Er walking out hand in hand.

"Sorry! Sorry to keep everyone waiting. Is everyone here now?"

After Zhang Fan asked, everyone looked around and then replied in unison: "All here!"

After saying that, all the females climbed onto the backs of their own beastmen. Soon, everyone left from the tribe's gate. Along the way, Ba Ke Er led Zhang Fan flying at the front to show the way, but fortunately the journey wasn't far. After arriving, Zhang Fan and Ba Ke Er taught everyone how to harvest, then they flapped their wings and bade farewell to everyone and left. Seeing Zhang Fan leave, Fei Er also wanted to go play, but Mo De still had to harvest the rice and couldn't take him. Having no choice, he went with some familiar females, carrying weapons to nearby "treasure hunt". And the beastmen were all busy working with great enthusiasm.

Zhang Fan and Ba Ke Er were flying toward the place of sunrise—the direction of Sunrise Mountain. Not long after, they reached the streambank at the mountain's base. It was already lunchtime, and after the two landed, Ba Ke Er did not go hunting, because he saw many fish, shrimp, and crabs in the stream.

Zhang Fan and Ba Ke Er were together in the stream, playing in the water while catching fish. The stream water was clear to the bottom, and the fish and shrimp swam in schools. Soon they had caught enough for lunch. Then came gutting the fish to prepare the meal: Zhang Fan handled the cooking, while Ba Ke Er took care of the preliminary preparations.

Soon the aroma of grilled fish and fish soup spread around. After finishing lunch, Zhang Fan and Ba Ke Er cleaned up the utensils and the fire traces by the stream, then headed up Sunrise Mountain.
