Chapter 50: Seeking Help

~3 min read 596 words

On the third day after the Heaven Lion Tribe finished its meeting, people from the surrounding small tribes began to come one after another seeking help.

The first to arrive was the Fox Clan Tribe, a tribe famed for its beautiful people—every member, male Beastmen or female, was a looker. Moreover, the Fox Clan Tribe had the highest proportion of females among the surrounding small tribes. The tribe numbered five hundred, at least two-thirds of whom were female.

As soon as the Fox Clan Tribe reached the outskirts of the Heaven Lion Tribe, the Beastmen guarding the tribe's gate immediately blew the signal horn.

Upon hearing the signal, the male Beastmen in the tribe tensed their muscles, while the females began to stir nervously—what was coming had finally arrived. After all, the Fox Clan Tribe was the nearest to the river, so it must have been the hardest-hit area by the flood.

Upon hearing the signal, the chief immediately shifted into beast form and flew to the tribe's gate. Seeing the Beastmen and females outside from the Fox Clan Tribe, each one lacked their former vigor, their hair disheveled, faces etched with fatigue, and many females looked sickly. After scanning the crowd, the chief noted that among the Fox Clan seeking aid, only a few older youngsters and a couple of elders in decent shape remained; the rest were able-bodied males and females. Seeing this, the chief could only sigh silently.

Meanwhile, outside the Fox Clan Tribe, upon seeing Fei Ji approach, they all began to step back, allowing their tribe's chief to step forward and speak with Fei Ji.

"Chief Fei Ji of the Heaven Lion Tribe! I am Chief Qiao Xi of the Fox Clan Tribe. This year's rainy season flash flood swept away our homeland, forcing us to abandon the youngsters who still needed much time to reach adulthood and the elderly tribe members, fleeing here to seek your aid. Our request is modest: we only need a place to stay. We will find our own food and will not trouble you overly."

Hearing this, Fei Ji understood—indeed, in the face of disaster, the first to be abandoned are the pitiful youngsters and the elderly Beastmen and females. Moreover, because their lives are so fragile, even if a new place is found, there is no guarantee they will survive to reach it.

"Our tribe's land isn't large either; I estimate it can't accommodate all of you. If you're willing, you may temporarily station outside our tribe."

"That's wonderful! Thank you so much, Chief Fei Ji, for your generosity! Our Fox Clan Tribe will surely never forget the Heaven Lion Tribe's great kindness!"

As soon as Qiao Xi finished speaking, he led all the Fox Clan Tribe's members to kneel on one knee, hands placed on their chests, bowing their heads to express gratitude to the Heaven Lion Tribe.

Thus, the Fox Clan set up camp outside the Heaven Lion Tribe.

Afterward, several more small tribes came seeking aid one after another. To prevent those tribes from allying and attacking the Heaven Lion Tribe, Chief Fei Ji could only arrange for the later-arriving tribes to station elsewhere, scattering all the tribes.

Upon hearing this, Zhang Fan kept praising Chief's wisdom to Ba Ke Er, causing Ba Ke Er to knock over a large vat of vinegar. That night, he forced Zhang Fan to work until dawn before letting him rest.

Zhang Fan had thought Ba Ke Er had received some sort of stimulus, but upon learning the reason later, he found it utterly laughable.
