Chapter 256: Long Po and Han Batian Recognize Each Other

~11 min read 2,026 words

Duan Fengyun brought Han Batian to the outside of the temple, and Duan Fengyun pointed at the temple and said:

"Senior Han, the old woman is right inside."

After hearing this, Han Batian could not care that this was a holy Buddhist site; he charged straight past the monks blocking the way and ran inside with a menacing aura.

Duan Fengyun shook his head; this old man Han was already over fifty, how could he still be so agitated upon hearing about a woman.

Duan Fengyun was truly being a bit of a humble-bragger here.

He and Youruo had only been separated for a few years, while old man Han had been separated from Long Po just after they were married, and his longing over these thirty years had almost gathered into a river.

Duan Fengyun followed closely behind, and after explaining the situation to a few monks, Duan Fengyun continued to chase after Han Batian.

Duan Fengyun ran ahead of Han Batian and led him to the room where Long Po, Tong Bo, and Dou Dou were.

Duan Fengyun pointed at the door and said:

"The old woman is inside; go ahead and knock to enter."

Upon hearing this, Han Batian excitedly reached out his hand, but when his hand was halfway there, he pulled it back again.

Having not seen his beloved for thirty years, now that they were finally going to meet, Han Batian felt both excited and terrified in his heart.

He did not know if his bitter waiting had any meaning, and he did not dare to push open this door.

Seeing the hesitant old man Han, Duan Fengyun was speechless.

I've already brought you to Long Po's front, yet at the final step you shrink back; you really are disappointing, old man Han.

Seeing this, Duan Fengyun decided to give old man Han a hand; Duan Fengyun deliberately picked up a small pebble and threw it at the door.

When old man Han saw Duan Fengyun's action, it was already too late to stop him.

The sound reached the ears of Tong Bo and the other two, and the three of them immediately stopped talking.

Dou Dou cautiously opened the door, and old man Han was also waiting at the entrance full of anticipation.

"Dad!

Why is it you!"

"Dou Dou!

Why are you here?"

After the father and daughter met here, they asked each other.

Neither of them had expected it to be the other person.

When Han Batian turned his head to ask Duan Fengyun what was going on, he discovered that Duan Fengyun had already disappeared.

When Dou Dou opened the door, Duan Fengyun had already left this place at an extremely fast speed.

Anyway, he had his Spirit Sense, so he wasn't afraid of not knowing the story that would follow.

Looking at the vanished Duan Fengyun, old man Han's first reaction was that he had been tricked.

Old man Han held onto Dou Dou's shoulders and said angrily:

"Dou Dou, your dad stumbled today; I've been tricked by someone!"

Dou Dou looked at Han Batian, completely bewildered; her dad had suddenly come to her, and then said he had been tricked—what on earth had happened?

Just as Dou Dou was bewildered, Tong Bo and Long Po walked out.

Long Po shouted angrily:

"Who is it, making such a racket outside the door where this old woman is burning incense and praying to Buddha? Are you not afraid of disturbing the peace of the Buddhist grounds?"

Han Batian, who was still feeling heartbroken because he had been deceived by Duan Fengyun, raised his head after hearing the voice that haunted his dreams.

The moment he saw Long Po, old man Han recognized her.

It's her!

It really is her!

Although thirty years had passed and Long Po had changed from the vibrant young girl of those years into an old woman over fifty, Han Batian recognized her at a glance.

But Long Po did not recognize Han Batian; looking at Han Batian who was staring at her, Long Po became even angrier.

"You old fellow, what is your business running to this holy Buddhist site?"

Immediately after, Long Po said to Tong Bo:

"Bo, could this old fellow have overheard our plan? For your safety, this old fellow cannot be allowed to live in this world; you must get rid of him as soon as possible.

To avoid news leaking out and putting you in a dangerous situation."

When Dou Dou heard that they wanted to kill her father, that was unacceptable.

She immediately stood in front of Han Batian, shielding him and saying:

"Grandmother, this is my father.

He must have a reason for coming here; I ask that you spare my father this once."

Before Long Po could speak, Han Batian pushed Dou Dou aside and said:

"Yan Er, if you want to kill me, then go ahead and do it.

Being able to see you again, I have no regrets even if I die."

Upon hearing this, Long Po looked at Han Batian as if struck by lightning; she asked with a choked voice:

"Who are you? How do you know my name?"

Han Batian said with a tearful smile:

"Yan Er, I am Han Batian; I am your husband, Han Batian."

Once these words were spoken, Dou Dou and Tong Bo looked at Han Batian and Long Po as if struck by lightning.

And Long Po looked at Han Batian with moist eyes, asking in disbelief:

"Are... are you really Batian?"

Han Batian also said with moist eyes:

"It is me, Batian."

"Yan Er, do you still remember? Thirty years ago, on the morning after our wedding night, you received a letter."

"The letter said your master's family was in trouble, and at that time, you left me without a second thought."

"You told me you would return as soon as possible."

"Yet you have been gone for thirty years. In these thirty years, I have searched for you every day and every night, hoping only to see you one more time."

"Batian!"

"Yan Er!"

Separated for thirty years, the couple Han Batian and Long Po finally embraced each other once again.

Han Batian pointed at Long Po and said to Dou Dou:

"Dou Dou, you must call her Mother!"

Fearing that Long Po might misunderstand, Han Batian immediately explained to her:

"Yan Er, please do not misunderstand."

"In these thirty years, I have been searching for news of you and have not remarried; Dou Dou, Zhu Er, and Zhao Yun are all adopted daughters I took in."

Dou Dou looked at the old woman who had transformed from Long Po into her adoptive mother, and Dou Dou smiled:

"Dou Dou greets Mother."

"Mother, you don't know, but every night after my father drinks, he mumbles your name."

"Several times when he was drunk and I helped him to bed, he would cry while calling your name."

"Father has truly been thinking of you every moment; now you have finally met."

Long Po looked at Han Batian, touched his face full of the vicissitudes of life, and said:

"Batian, these years have been hard on you."

"This is all my fault; I have let you down."

Han Batian shook his head and said:

"It was not hard; as long as I could see you again, everything was worth it."

The two held each other tightly, as if they never wanted to part again.

"Ahem, ahem, ahem!"

Seeing this, Tong Bo and Dou Dou coughed twice at the right moment; after all, such hugging and holding in a sacred Buddhist site was not appropriate.

The two people nearing fifty, upon hearing the coughing from Tong Bo and the other, actually separated while blushing.

Tong Bo spoke up:

"Uncle Han, Grandma, you shouldn't just stand here."

"Let's go inside to talk."

Long Po held Han Batian's hand as they entered the room, and after Dou Dou and Tong Bo exchanged a smile, they followed the two into the room.

Tong Bo poured a cup of water for Han Batian, and after Han Batian took a sip, Tong Bo finally voiced the doubt in his heart: "Uncle Han, how did you know we were here?"

"Besides me, Dou Dou, and Yin Tianxue, no one else knew that Grandma was here. Did Tianxue tell you?"

Han Batian shook his head and said:

"It was not Yin Tianxue; the one who brought me here was a young man named Nie Feng."

"He came to my shop, looked at two Jade Pendants, and then said he wanted to give them to his wet nurse, Grandma."

"Then he told me his wet nurse, Grandma, was named Long Yan, and that she had left her newlywed husband thirty years ago just to take care of him."

"Through my conversation with him, I only then learned that Yan Er was here."

"Later, he brought me to this temple and pointed out that you, Yan Er, were in this room."

"What!"

Tong Bo and Long Po exclaimed in surprise at the same time.

Because the story being told was exactly the story between Long Po and Tong Bo.

Yet now it was spoken by a person named Nie Feng; they had not told anyone this story, so how could this Nie Feng have known?

Tong Bo asked:

"Uncle Han, what did this Nie Feng look like? Do you remember?"

Han Batian said:

"Nie Feng's build and age are about the same as yours; he wore a long blue robe, had very defined facial features, a high nose bridge, and looked like the son of a wealthy family."

Upon hearing Han Batian's words, Tong Bo's first reaction was to think of Duan Fengyun.

He fetched paper and a brush and drew Duan Fengyun's appearance to let Han Batian confirm.

"Uncle Han, take a look and see if it is this person."

After looking carefully, Han Batian shook his head:

"It is not him. That Nie Feng did not look as effeminate as this lad; Nie Feng looked as sunny as you."

Tong Bo asked:

"Uncle Han, are you sure?"

Han Batian nodded and answered with certainty:

"I am sure. This Nie Feng swindled two priceless Jade Pendants from me using news of Yan Er; I would recognize him even if he turned to ash."

After hearing Han Batian's words, Tong Bo finally dismissed his suspicion of Duan Fengyun.

Tong Bo turned to Long Po and said:

"Grandma, our relationship has been discovered by someone; from now on, you must be extremely careful."

Long Po nodded and said:

"You are the one who needs to be more careful."

"Your journey to Shuiyue Dongtian will surely be even more fraught with danger."

"I am a bit worried; I should accompany you, so if anything happens, I can help you."

Hearing that Long Po was going to some place called Shuiyue Dongtian, Han Batian immediately stood up and said:

"Yan Er, wherever you go, I will go; I will not let you leave me again."

"Even if there is a mountain of blades and a sea of fire ahead, I will follow you; you cannot leave me alone again."

Tong Bo smiled and said:

"Granny, Uncle Han is right; you two have finally reunited after so much difficulty, how could I let you be separated?"

"This time going to Shuiyue Dongtian, Tong Xin, Tong Zhan, Yinxiu, and I will all be going, so it will certainly be fine."

"You and Uncle Han haven't seen each other for so many years; you should have a good talk and make up for the lost time."

Han Batian looked at Tong Bo and smiled:

"You brat, not only did you trick my precious daughter away."

"Thirty years ago, it was even because of you that Yan Er and I were separated for so many years."

"I often thought about how I would deal with the person who caused our separation if I ever ran into them."

"But I never expected it to be you, you stinking brat; oh well, forget it!"

Tong Bo rubbed his head and laughed awkwardly.
