Chapter 28: Meeting Youruo Again
Seeing that Jiansheng was already dead, Bu Jingyun quickened his pace toward the Huiting.
Inside the Huiting, Xiongba looked at the wound on his chest; he had been only a hair's breadth away from dying on the spot.
Enduring the intense pain, he said to the martial artists below the dais, "Heroes, the great battle today was won by this old man after all; I am the number one."
Duan Fengyun, in the crowd, could not help but let out a scoff; the sound was soft, but Xiongba still heard it.
Xiongba looked in the direction of the sound; he didn't need to be anxious, but upon looking and locking eyes with Duan Fengyun, he found that this person gave him an illusion of familiarity.
Seeing that he might have been exposed, and that Xiongba was already severely wounded, Duan Fengyun shed his disguise and walked out.
Having shed his disguise, Duan Fengyun looked at Xiongba and gave a mocking smile: "Xiongba, you didn't expect it to be me, did you? Your young master has returned."
Xiongba said in surprise: "It's you! Duan Fengyun."
Before Xiongba could finish, a voice rang out from outside the door: "And me."
Bu Jingyun also strode in with great strides.
Bu Jingyun walked to Duan Fengyun's side and greeted him: "Junior Brother Duan, long time no see."
Duan Fengyun also replied: "Senior Brother Yun, long time no see."
Watching the two exchanging pleasantries, Xiongba mocked: "You don't need to greet each other; very soon you will be companions on the road to the Yellow Springs."
Xiongba looked at his two former disciples before him, and when he saw Bu Jingyun's left hand, he asked in shock: "How can this be? Wasn't your arm crippled by me?"
Bu Jingyun raised his left Kirin Arm to show off to Xiongba: "Heaven allowed me to be reborn with the Kirin Arm precisely so that I could take your dog life."
Looking at Bu Jingyun's Kirin Arm, Duan Fengyun was quite envious; he also hoped he could have such a Kirin Arm, which was like a divine weapon and impervious to water and fire, but he could not bear the pain of losing an arm.
Moreover, from the perspective of modern medicine, he thought that Yu Yue's blood type was the same as Bu Jingyun's, otherwise the transplant would not have been so smooth. In his view, the so-called Three Passes and Mysterious Focus were actually just adverse reactions.
He did not want to use himself as an experiment, and besides, if he didn't transplant someone else's arm, he would have to go to Lingyun Cave to douse his arm in Qilin Blood, which would allow him to regenerate a Kirin Arm with the help of the Qilin Blood's magic.
Both of these points were too fantastical, and he did not want to try them, so he had long ago given up on the idea of a Kirin Arm.
Watching the Kirin Arm that Bu Jingyun was showing off, Xiongba said in surprise: "Oh, a Kirin Arm?"
Having said that, he gathered his Three-Point Origin Qi in his hands, preparing to strike at Duan Fengyun and the other, when a man and a woman entered from outside the door.
The man and woman who walked in were none other than Jian Chen and Chuchu; unfamiliar with the layout of the World Society, they had been left behind by Bu Jingyun and were only arriving now.
Xiongba looked at the two who had entered, and suddenly he saw the sword in the man's hand, muttering to himself: Isn't this sword Wuming's Hero Sword? Who is this man, and how could this sword be in his hands?
To verify his guess, Xiongba asked Jian Chen: "Is that the Hero Sword in your hand? Who are you?"
Jian Chen held his sword and cupped his fists: "Leader Xiong, I am Jian Chen. The Hero Sword was passed down to me by my master."
Xiongba sought confirmation: "You are Wuming's disciple?"
Jian Chen replied: "My master is indeed Wuming."
Hearing this, Xiongba could not help but feel terrified; he had just finished a great battle with Jiansheng and had been severely wounded by Jiansheng's Sword Twenty-Three. Now, in the open, there were the three eyeing him like tigers: Duan Fengyun, Bu Jingyun, and Jian Chen; and in the shadows, there was still Wuming, the Martial Arts Myth.
Jian Chen said considerately: "Leader Xiong, I have come this time under my master's orders to stop this great battle. Now that Senior Jiansheng has passed, I hope Leader Xiong will let the matter rest and not add to the slaughter in vain."
Xiongba was overjoyed; it was truly like being handed a soft pillow just as one was feeling sleepy—he could use this step to climb down.
Xiongba pretended to think for a moment, then looked at Duan Fengyun and Bu Jingyun and said: "Today, I will give Wuming some face and spare your two lives. Next time we meet, I will surely take the lives of you two who betrayed your master and ancestors."
Duan Fengyun and Bu Jingyun had actually already seen that Xiongba was at the end of his rope, but both still chose to leave.
As they left, they said to Xiongba: "Xiongba, today you are at the end of your rope. To repay your kindness in teaching and raising us for these ten years, we will spare you today. From today on, we sever our master-disciple relationship; we are finished. Next time we meet, it will be either you die or I live."
Having said this, the two dashed out the door, and Chuchu ran out after Bu Jingyun. Seeing that Duan Fengyun and the others had already left, Jian Chen bid farewell to Xiongba.
Arriving at the entrance of the World Society, the four saw Youruo, who had been waiting there for a long time. Bu Jingyun glanced at Duan Fengyun and said: "Junior Brother Duan, we will go ahead and wait for you."
Having said that, Bu Jingyun called for Chuchu and Jian Chen to leave, leaving Duan Fengyun and Youruo behind.
Duan Fengyun looked at Youruo before him, rubbed his nose, and said to her: "Why did you come?"
Youruo said resentfully: "If I hadn't come to find you, would you never have come to see me? What did you promise me before?"
Having said this, Youruo actually hugged Duan Fengyun's shoulder and cried.
Duan Fengyun had been through all kinds of storms and waves, but he could not bear to see a girl cry. At a loss, he comforted Youruo: "Oh, how could I not come to see you? It's just that your father doesn't like the look of me right now and wants to kill me at any moment. If I were to rashly come to see you, aren't you afraid your father would tear me to pieces?"
Youruo looked up at Duan Fengyun and said: "Can't you just apologize to my father? With the master-disciple relationship you've had for so many years, my father will surely let you go."
Duan Fengyun muttered to himself: With your father's superstitious mindset, he would love to grind us to dust; and you want me to go apologize to him? I'd be seeking death.
He certainly couldn't tell Youruo his inner thoughts, so he said to her: "It's too late to say anything now; I just severed my master-disciple relationship with your father."
Then, in order to appease Youruo, he could only lie: "Youruo, believe me, I will soon make a name for myself and make your father look at me with new eyes. When that time comes, I will definitely come to the World Society in a grand sedan chair to pick you up."
Youruo chose to continue believing in Duan Fengyun; she never imagined that her father and the four of them were already at odds, to the point where only one side could survive.
Duan Fengyun patted Youruo's head and said: "It's getting late, I must leave quickly. Otherwise, your father will send people to hunt me down again. Wait for me, I will come to see you very soon."
Youruo nodded slightly, looked at Duan Fengyun's face, gathered all her courage, kissed him, and then turned to leave. She turned her head and said: "I'll believe you one last time; you must come to see me."
Duan Fengyun nodded and waved his hands to say goodbye to Youruo.
After Youruo's figure disappeared, he touched the spot where she had just kissed him, giggled for a while, and then left.
