Chapter 28

~8 min read 1,453 words

At a little after 8:00 a. m., the preparatory bell had not yet rung, and the classroom was already essentially full. A few minutes later, the foreign‑language teacher wearing black‑rimmed glasses arrived at the podium carrying a stack of test papers.

The audience below instantly erupted in wails, and the foreign‑language teacher scanned the students, lingering a little longer—two seconds—on Su Chen, her gaze filled with dissatisfaction, a hatred that iron had not become steel.

She placed the test papers on the podium and slammed the desk with a book several times, signaling for silence.

The clamor below vanished in an instant, and everyone turned to look at the teacher on the stage.

The moment they saw the test papers, they knew what was about to greet them.

When the crowd fell silent, the female teacher first scolded them, then instructed the English class representative to distribute the test papers.

Soon the classroom was filled only with the rustle of pages, the swish of writing, and the continual tap‑tap of high heels striking the floor.

Thirty minutes later, the female teacher adjusted her glasses, looked toward Su Chen's direction, and discovered that he was actually sleeping with his eyes closed.

A surge of anger rose in her heart, and she walked toward Su Chen.

Su Chen opened his eyes before she arrived, let out a slight sigh, thinking he didn't want to waste any time; he had just been cultivating, and as for the test paper, he had finished it in fifteen minutes.

The female teacher stepped up to Su Chen, about to scold him, but saw him hold the test paper up to her face, forcing the words at the tip of her tongue to be swallowed, and she changed to: "You think you can just fill in the test paper carelessly and get away with it?"

Su Chen said nothing, gesturing for her to look.

The female teacher stared at the resolute Su Chen, and the contempt and disbelief in her eyes faded considerably.

She picked up the test paper and scanned it quickly, her eyes gradually showing shock.

She looked at Su Chen as if recalling something, let out a cold sneer, and said, "After the exam, come to my office for a moment."

Su Chen had anticipated it, gave a slight nod, and kept his eyes closed.

The female teacher saw this, a flash of displeasure crossing her eyes, but she said nothing more and continued to wander around the classroom.

The surrounding students, seeing this, didn't know what had happened and began whispering softly.

Hearing the murmurs, the female teacher let out a light cough, and the classroom fell silent again, as if nothing had occurred.

A little after ten o'clock, Su Chen walked out of the office under the teacher's surprised and shocked gaze.

Su Chen recalled the teacher's gaze, feeling both amused and bewildered; the look seemed as if it wanted to devour him, yet she also kindly asked how his food was, whether he slept well, and so on.

The morning passed quickly, but for Su Chen, it was far from calm.

The foreign‑language teacher's drastic change in attitude, and the classmates were shocked that Su Chen could walk out of the teacher's office "unscathed," and they began asking about it.

At noon, while walking side‑by‑side with Qin Ziyang toward the cafeteria, Su Chen's eyes flickered slightly; he smiled at Qin Ziyang and said, "I have something to take care of, I need to step out, I'll owe you this meal."

Su Chen patted Qin Ziyang's shoulder and headed toward the school gate.

In a secluded corner of the school gate, three petite thugs looked somewhat fearful as they watched Yu Gu Mo struggling toward them, revealing jealous and cruel sneers.

"You bitch, you're still obedient."

The girl leading the three, whose looks were fairly decent, had wine‑red long hair casually tied in a ponytail, wore two exaggerated earrings, and sported bold red eye‑shadow and heavy blush.

She looked at Yu Gu Mo's delicate face, her jealousy and hatred unmistakable.

"Who told you to go after Brother Qiang? You bitch, I'll teach you a lasting lesson."

She shoved Yu Gu Mo hard; Yu Gu Mo staggered and fell backward, and the other two girls burst into loud laughter.

Su Chen slightly Condense brow, and with a single lunge he rushed to the Yu Gu Mo who was about to collapse onto the ground,

He lifted her up.

Yu Gu Mo, whose eyes reflected fear and despair, suddenly felt a pair of warm, large hands supporting her.

She opened her eyes in surprise and saw a pair of cold yet familiar gazes reflected in her sight.

Seeing Su Chen, she first felt joy, then forced a smile and said, "I'm fine, you don't need to worry about me."

While speaking, she glanced fearfully at the three girls before her.

The leading girl, seeing this, immediately said, "Who are you? This has nothing to do with you; you'd better not meddle in idle matters."

Her words were saturated with a strong threatening tone.

Su Chen didn't even glance at her, and in a cold voice asked, "What's going on?"

Yu Gu Mo was about to say nothing, but after noticing Su Chen's unquestionable gaze, she went ahead and explained the whole story.

It turned out that the red‑haired girl before them was the school bully Zhang Qiang's girlfriend, named Wang Qian.

But Zhang Qiang had recently grown weary of her and started pursuing Yu Gu Mo.

Wang Qian, angry, demanded an explanation from Zhang Qiang, who naturally ignored her. She then vented her anger onto Yu Gu Mo.

Yu Gu Mo briefly recounted the incident, but Wang Qian, displeased, shouted at the two, "Do you two act as if I don't exist?"

Mid‑sentence, she lifted her leg and swung it horizontally at Su Chen.

"Seems you've been fighting a lot," Su Chen said coldly, shielding Yu Gu Mo behind him with his left hand, and with his right hand he easily grabbed Wang Qian's foot and flipped her onto the ground.

"Ouch!"

Wang Qian let out a painful cry as she fell to the ground and immediately shrieked, "How dare you hit me?"

Her eyes were filled with disbelief; ever since she entered this high school, she had become Zhang Qiang's girlfriend.

Everyone in the school gave her at least three points of respect; not only would anyone who laid a hand on her be punished, but even anyone who dared to utter a single insult would be dealt with.

She shook off the two girls trying to help her, muttering low, "Useless."

The two girls exchanged a glance, stepped back a pace, and dared not say anything.

Wang Qian stood up and hysterically shouted at Su Chen, "How dare you hit me? You're doomed; I want my boyfriend…"

Before she could finish, a compressed gust of wind brushed her scalp and slammed into the wall behind her, accompanied by a "Bang" that left an irregular large hole.

Wang Qian's expression immediately became dazed, and the words she was about to say fell silent.

She struggled to turn her head toward the wall behind her, and for a moment she couldn't grasp what had happened.

She had just seen Su Chen's icy gaze, a finger snap directed at her, and the wall behind her was silently ripped open by something, creating a large hole.

The three girls, stunned, immediately let out high‑pitched screams, but Su Chen, having prepared, silently deployed a sound‑proof shield.

Meanwhile, Yu Gu Mo beside him had already covered her mouth, looked at Su Chen standing before her, and a bright gleam flashed in her eyes.

Let this be the end of it, my name is Su Chen—if anything comes up later, come at me. Don't lay a hand on him/her again; next time I won't miss.

Su Chen coldly threw down those words, grabbed Yu Gu Mo's hand and turned to leave.

Yu Gu Mo did not struggle; instead, her pretty face flushed slightly, allowing him to pull her away from here.

Gradually arriving at a crowded place, Su Chen noticed he was still holding Yu Gu Mo's hand, hastily let go, and said in a cold voice: "If anything comes up in the future, don't just try to solve it yourself."

As he spoke, Su Chen turned and left.

Seeing Su Chen release her hand, Yu Gu Mo's eyes showed disappointment. Upon hearing his final words, her eyes regained some spirit.

She stared blankly at Su Chen's silhouette until he disappeared from her sight, then she let out a soft breath, using a voice only she could hear: "Come on, Yu Gu Mo."
