Chapter 506: Old Matters Revisited, Ma Chao's Mistake
"Are you the Divine Doctor?"
The Divine Doctor blinked.
"Yes, I am. Do you know my rules?"
"We know! Wherever there's a problem, we bring it."
Zhang Fei shook the bone in his hand, uncertainly.
"We brought it."
The Divine Doctor smiled upon seeing what Zhang Fei had brought.
"Hmm, I can treat it."
Zhao Yun quickly thanked him.
"Thank you, Divine Doctor."
The Divine Doctor looked at Zhao Zilong, her face flushed, speaking softly.
"Can you go outside? Staring at me like this makes me uncomfortable."
Zhao Yun realized it was indeed impolite.
"Oh! Then I'll go out!"
Zhao Zilong stepped out, and the Divine Doctor returned to her cold, distant demeanor.
"Then, let's begin."
Zhang Fei looked at Ma Chao.
"Ma Chao! Hold down my second brother."
Ma Chao became interested upon hearing this.
"Hmm!"
The Divine Doctor, hearing Ma Chao's name, turned and asked.
"You're Ma Chao! Your grandfather founded the National Arts Academy, and your mother is that famous writer?"
Ma Chao admitted openly.
"Yes."
Upon hearing this, the Divine Doctor's mood suddenly changed.
"Out! All of you, get out!"
The Divine Doctor's apprentice explained beside her.
"Master is angry."
Everyone was confused—why had the Divine Doctor, who had just been preparing tools, suddenly become furious?
"Sorry, what's wrong with the Divine Doctor?"
The Divine Doctor's apprentice added.
"Nothing! I won't treat you. Are your ears stuffed with hair? Get out now!"
The Divine Doctor's disciple shouted.
"Get out quickly! If Master gets angry, you'll all go deaf!"
Outside, Guan Yu sighed helplessly.
"Forget it. Since they don't want to help, I'll leave it to fate."
Lin Yu stopped Guan Yu.
"Second brother, we've come this far—unless you're healed, we're not leaving."
Zhang Fei was dissatisfied.
"This Divine Doctor is so strange, with such unstable temper—could she have some mental illness?"
Ma Chao, recalling the Divine Doctor's reaction after asking about his family, muttered.
"The Divine Doctor seems to hate me!"
After being driven out, the Divine Doctor sat alone inside, heavy-hearted. Her apprentice stood beside her, holding a plate of her favorite snacks, speaking softly.
"Master, these are all your favorites—please try a little."
The Divine Doctor answered calmly.
"No need. I don't want to eat, and I have no heart left for treating patients."
The apprentice persisted, urging again.
"Master, you're the kindest person—just this once..."
The Divine Doctor stopped him.
"You don't understand. I told you—it's impossible."
The apprentice hesitated.
"But they're all good people!"
The Divine Doctor suddenly shouted.
"Good people don't die. You leave too."
Seeing this, the apprentice silently left the room. The Divine Doctor rose, walked to the framed photo on the wall, her gaze tender yet sorrowful. She stared at the photograph, tears slipping down.
"I'm a failed mother, and not a doctor who saves lives... Ren'er, are you watching me, Mother?"
At that moment, Ma Chao entered to understand, unintentionally overhearing the Divine Doctor's whispered words to the photo—astonished to realize the Divine Doctor was Ren's mother.
Ren had always been Ma Chao's deepest wound. As children, he and Ren were close friends, always playing and roughhousing together.
During a sparring practice, Ma Chao accidentally struck Ren, causing him to lose consciousness and ultimately die. Since then, Ma Chao despised combat and focused solely on learning defense.
Learning the Divine Doctor's connection to Ren, Ma Chao was filled with guilt, unable to face her, and walked out silently.
"Ma Chao, what's wrong? Did the Divine Doctor bully you?" Everyone asked with concern, staring at Ma Chao's grim expression.
Ma Chao shook his head: "I'm fine."
