Chapter 10: You're Fired

~8 min read 1,442 words

"Chen Yu, what did you say? Try saying that again." Li Qin exploded instantly; she considered her figure and appearance to be quite good, and Chen Yu's jab made her feel extremely uncomfortable.

"What's going on?" Just then, a property manager happened to pass by.

"Manager Yang, these two people snuck in, hurry and kick them out." Li Qin pointed at the two and shouted, "What is the security guard at the gate doing, letting people in so casually?"

"May I ask which unit you two are from? Would it be convenient to register?" Manager Yang was actually quite professional.

"Building 8, Area C." Chen Yu reported his room number: "My name is Chen Yu."

"Chen Yu?" Manager Yang was startled, and his attitude immediately became respectful: "Mr. Chen, I am truly sorry. This Xiao Li is new and doesn't understand the situation."

"Manager Yang, why are you being so nice to him? He's just a gambler who drinks, gambles, and beats his wife every day—a piece of trash from the bottom of society. Hurry and kick them out." Li Qin, standing to the side, still hadn't figured out what was going on.

"Li Qin, shut your mouth! Didn't I tell you that a distinguished guest was coming today and to go serve them?" Manager Yang was furious; this woman really had no eyes.

Chen Yu was someone Lin Wenfu had personally given instructions about, and the developer of this residential complex was also a subsidiary of Lin Group. He had to serve the boss's distinguished guest with the utmost care, yet this woman had actually gone and scolded Chen Yu.

"Yes, yes, you did mention that a new owner was moving into Building 8, Area C today and told me to be their private housekeeper, could it be..." Li Qin's face turned pale instantly. Could this new owner really be Chen Yu? That was impossible.

"That's right, it's me." Chen Yu sneered: "A servant really has lost sight of their place. Manager Yang, either replace her, or I will tell President Lin that living here is uncomfortable. You decide."

"Li Qin, you are fired. Leave immediately." Manager Yang made a prompt decision.

"Manager Yang, I know I was wrong. I will definitely be careful in the future, please don't fire me." Li Qin instantly wilted and pleaded.

She had put a lot of effort into getting this job as a private housekeeper; for one, the benefits here were truly good, and for another, there were more opportunities to come into contact with the wealthy. Yet, she had been fired before she had even worked for a few days.

"Say no more. Disappear from Mr. Chen's sight immediately, right now!" Manager Yang barked.

Li Qin had no choice. She glared at Chen Yu resentfully and turned to leave. She just couldn't understand: Chen Yu was clearly just a hoodlum from the very bottom of society, so how did he suddenly transform into a distinguished guest?

"Mr. Chen, Mrs. Chen, I am truly sorry. I will arrange another housekeeper service for you immediately." Manager Yang bowed in apology.

With the matter of Li Qin over, Chen Yu helped Ye Xinyu back home.

Ye Xinyu was stunned by the luxury before her eyes. It was three stories high, luxuriously decorated, and the furniture was all imported. She had never imagined in her life that she would be able to live in such a luxurious house.

"Wife, quit your job and just stay here peacefully to nurture the baby," Chen Yu said with a smile.

"No, I can still work. Besides, I've been following two big orders recently; once they are negotiated, I might get a promotion," Ye Xinyu said. "There will be more places where we need money after the child is born."

"Don't worry, just leave those things to me," Chen Yu smiled.

"Husband, I'm a little homesick," Ye Xinyu said blankly.

"Then let's go back. I'll go with you." Chen Yu was taken aback; Ye Xinyu hadn't been in contact with her family for several years.

"But..."

"There are no 'buts.' You don't need to consider me in everything. I know they look down on me, but as long as you want to go back, it doesn't matter how they mock me," Chen Yu said. "After all, it wasn't easy for your father to raise you."

"Really? I'm just afraid you won't be able to stand their cold sarcasm," Ye Xinyu said happily.

"For you, I can endure it," Chen Yu smiled slightly.

"My dad's birthday is the day after tomorrow. Let's take this time to go back. I hope he can accept us," Ye Xinyu said.

"He will accept us. I'll go pick out a gift for him later," Chen Yu smiled slightly.

After buying daily necessities, Chen Yu pondered that he hadn't visited his father-in-law's home in years and should buy a decent gift. His father-in-law liked calligraphy and painting, as well as antiques, so Chen Yu decided to go to the Antique Street to take a look.

Fengling Antique Street had been around for quite a few years. It was after lunch now, and there weren't too many people. Chen Yu had no specific goal, so he just wandered around aimlessly.

"Yo, Chen Yu, you're in the mood to stroll through the Antique Street too? I haven't seen you at the card games these past few days; were you thinking of picking up a bargain to make a fortune?"

Just a few steps in, a mocking voice came from behind him.

Turning his head, he saw a man with a sleazy appearance walking over.

"Brother San, it's you." Chen Yu smiled. This was his card-playing friend Liu San, who, like the former Chen Yu, spent his days drinking and playing cards without doing any proper work.

It was just that this guy was shrewd—the type who only took advantage and never suffered a loss—so he lived slightly more comfortably than Chen Yu.

"Let's go, let's go play a few rounds." Liu San slapped Chen Yu heavily on the shoulder.

"No thanks, Brother San. I'm not playing cards anymore," Chen Yu shook his head and said.

"Hmm, turned over a new leaf?" Liu San looked at Chen Yu in surprise: "This isn't your style."

"I'm about to be a father, so I have to think about the child," Chen Yu smiled.

"Chen Yu, you really don't know what's good for you," Liu San shook his head: "What are you looking at here?"

"Looking for some calligraphy or painting. My father-in-law's birthday is coming up, so I'm taking my wife back to visit," Chen Yu said.

"Looking for calligraphy? You should have told me! A buddy of mine owns a calligraphy and painting shop. Come, I'll take you to take a look; there's definitely something you'll be satisfied with." Liu San smiled with ill intent and, without waiting for an answer, pulled Chen Yu along.

"Old Ji, I've brought you a customer." Liu San brought Chen Yu to a calligraphy and painting shop, and a shopkeeper came up to greet them.

"Old Ji, this is my buddy Chen Yu. He wants to look at some calligraphy and painting. Can you introduce a good one?" Liu San winked at the shopkeeper.

"Haha, no problem. Anyone brought by Brother San is a friend of the house. Brother, my name is Ji Jie. How about I introduce a few to you?" Ji Jie understood as soon as he saw Liu San's expression, and he greeted them with enthusiasm.

"Then I'll trouble you, Brother Jie." Chen Yu nodded.

"Come take a look at this one, 'Picking Chrysanthemums.' It's from the hand of Ouyang Xun of the Tang Dynasty. You know, Ouyang Xun is one of the four great masters of Tang regular script, and this painting..."

"Let's try another one." Chen Yu had received the Medical Dao Martial Artist Inheritance and was well-versed in the Strange Gates Yin and Yang; he saw at a glance that this was a fake.

"My brother doesn't like it? That's fine, how about this one? This is..."

"Brother Jie, we're all doing business here, can you show a little sincerity?" Chen Yu didn't even glance at it.

"Brother, your standards are quite high. Wait a moment, I have a treasure of the shop here; I'll take it out for you to see right away." Ji Jie smiled and pulled Liu San to the side.

"Liu San, is this guy an expert?"

"Expert my foot! He's just a gambler. Let me tell you, no matter how much it sells for, I want thirty percent of the profit," Liu San whispered.
