Chapter 1338: I Want to Follow You
"That Dream Weaver is nothing much, after all," Ping'er said. "I was merely keeping my mind tense, and he couldn't do anything to me?"
"This... no one can say for sure," Chen Yu said with a wry smile. "Your situation is just an isolated case; no one can clearly explain how it works, so you still need to be careful in the future."
"I want to stay and follow you," Ping'er hesitated for a moment, then looked up and said.
"Follow me for what?" Chen Yu was a bit bewildered.
"I don't know, I should be able to find a reason later." Ping'er was silent for a moment and said, "After retiring, my mind has been in a state of constant tension."
"I don't know how long it has been since I had a good night's sleep, but after your treatment, I slept very deeply and soundly, and for the first time in my life, I didn't have any dreams."
"Is that the only reason?" Chen Yu asked with some surprise. "Actually, I can make your mind completely relaxed; even if you don't follow me, you won't have dreams anymore."
"It's different. You are a Dharma Cultivator, and the world you come into contact with is different from our world," Ping'er said.
"You want to enter this world?" Chen Yu looked at her. "The reason?"
"No reason, I just simply want to come into contact with people from this world." Ping'er paused and said, "So, can you agree to my request?"
"You could actually just tell me directly that you want to become a bit stronger," Chen Yu said with a wry smile. "Is that it?"
"To be precise, that is it. I want to become a bit stronger," Ping'er smiled slightly. "I know this request is a bit difficult for you, but if you don't agree, then forget it."
"It's not that it's impossible. Since you were able to dodge the Nightmare of the Dream Weaver, it shows you have a certain ability to withstand pressure," Chen Yu said. "So, it's not impossible for you to practice some things on a spiritual level."
"Then you agree?" Ping'er looked at Chen Yu, a look of anticipation on her face.
"I suppose so." Chen Yu smiled and said, "Alright then, you can follow me from now on. The Spirit Root in your body is passable, though it belongs to medium aptitude."
"Cultivation is not impossible, but it requires effort several times harder than an ordinary person, and you must be clear that once you step into this line of work, you will have to make a clean break with everything you have now."
"A clean break?" Ping'er's expression was complex. She said slowly, "My only connection to this world right now is that I am still alive. I have no family, and my comrades-in-arms have almost all died in battle."
"Being alive is nothing more than being a Walking Corpse to me, so I feel there is nothing left in this world that I look forward to."
Chen Yu fell into Silence. Previously, he had always thought her situation was caused by post-war syndrome, but now he realized it was not.
The saddest thing in life is a dead heart—family members passing away, comrades falling before her eyes one by one, while she was powerless to do anything.
The Heavenly Dao is something no one can contend with, or rather, something Ping'er could not contend with, so she could only let those things happen, and apart from enduring them, she had no other way.
"Alright then, you can follow me from now on, but I still have some matters to resolve for the time being." Chen Yu paused and said, "I'll have to trouble you to act as a bodyguard for a while."
"I am a bodyguard by trade," Ping'er smiled slightly. "Why talk about trouble or not?"
"That's good, I'll let my mother know." Chen Yu nodded.
Chen Yu was out for another half a day. By the time he returned to the company, Liu Ruxi had just finished losing her temper at several operations staff.
Seeing Chen Yu, she couldn't help but glare at him and say, "Where did you go?"
"Took care of some private business." Chen Yu spoke the truth; there was nothing to hide.
"Private business? Is work time for you to handle private business?" Seeing him being so candid, Liu Ruxi became even angrier. Chen Yu simply did not take any of the company's rules and regulations to heart.
"I really was handling private business. If you want to punish me, then punish me." Chen Yu gave a wry smile.
"I'm docking your perfect attendance bonus." Liu Ruxi glared at him.
"Fine." Chen Yu nodded, then said, "How about I introduce a bodyguard to you?"
"Aren't you a bodyguard? You are a Dharma Cultivator; is there a bodyguard even more powerful than you?" Liu Ruxi couldn't help but look at Chen Yu in confusion, not quite understanding what he meant.
"My apprentice," Chen Yu thought for a moment and said.
"Your apprentice? You even have an apprentice?" Liu Ruxi was taken aback.
"I suppose so. She has nowhere to go right now, so she'll stay at the company for a while." Chen Yu said with a wry smile, "I have some matters to handle, so I often can't protect you. Let her follow you; she can protect you."
Liu Ruxi stared at Chen Yu, seemingly verifying the truth of his words.
After a long while, she smiled: "Alright then. Seeing how serious you are, it doesn't look like you're joking. Let her come in; I'll meet her."
"Alright." Chen Yu nodded and turned to let Ping'er in.
"Were you a soldier?" Looking at Ping'er's appearance, Liu Ruxi became interested at once.
Ping'er wore her hair short and stood with a straight posture; one could tell from the aura about her that she was certainly no ordinary person.
And Liu Ruxi particularly admired soldiers, so as soon as she appeared, this aura immediately conquered her.
"Yes, I was a soldier," Ping'er nodded and said.
"That's good, you can stay. Do you have any requirements for your salary?" Liu Ruxi asked.
"None, just having a place to stay is enough," Ping'er said indifferently.
"That's no problem. I'll pay you a normal salary. If you have any requests, just bring them up. If you don't have a place to live, find Chen Yu and have him take you back," Liu Ruxi said.
"Good." Ping'er's speech was extremely concise.
"Alright, Chen Yu, you take her home first, then come back to work. You need to go with me to discuss a partnership," Liu Ruxi said.
"I can go by myself. Mr. Chen, go ahead and get busy," Ping'er said.
"What kind of partnership are we discussing?" After getting into the car, Chen Yu turned his head and asked.
"A new project. We don't know the first thing about this project here," Liu Ruxi said, "So we need the other party's technical support."
"I actually think that if you don't understand something, you shouldn't invest blindly," Chen Yu said speechlessly. "You don't understand, but some things are about occupying a spot in advance. Industry development is diversified; if you don't lay out your strategy in advance, it will be too late when these things develop."
"Alright then, I really don't understand," Chen Yu said helplessly.
"So you should talk less and just follow me," Liu Ruxi said.
"Why do you insist on dragging me along?" Chen Yu said, puzzled. "I don't understand it anyway."
"You're my lucky charm. Chen Yu, you don't know, but I've discovered that since I've had you, my success rate in negotiating partnerships has greatly increased," Liu Ruxi giggled.
