Chapter 1651: In Troubled Times, Use Heavy Codes

~7 min read 1,278 words

The man waved his hand, and two people immediately closed in on Chuan Naizi.

Chuan Naizi reached back, drew her gun, and pointed it at the two men walking toward her.

The two men were slightly stunned; before they could react, two gunshots rang out—bang, bang—and Chuan Naizi shot them both in the head.

The remaining three men were so frightened by the sight that they stood frozen like wooden chickens; they dropped the woman they had been robbing and ran away.

Bang, bang, bang—a few more shots, and the men were all knocked to the ground; Chuan Naizi ejected the magazine and then familiarly loaded a new one.

Chen Yu looked at Chuan Naizi before him with some surprise; he had not expected that she possessed such a decisive and ruthless side.

"Don't be afraid, I am a Detective, I am here to help you." Chuan Naizi put away her gun, walked up to the terrified woman, comforted her, and then picked up the supplies that had fallen to the ground and handed them to her: "Go home quickly, don't come out lately, it's not safe."

"Thank you." The woman carried the supplies in her hands, bowed repeatedly to Chuan Naizi in thanks, and then left, expressing her gratitude profusely.

"They were just small-time thugs; even if they were detestable, their crimes didn't warrant death. You just took your gun and finished them off—this isn't your style." Only after the woman had left did Chen Yu look up and stare directly at Chuan Naizi.

"Whether they are thugs or villains, in this critical time, one should not be soft-hearted, otherwise, the social order will become unstable." Chuan Naizi picked up her walkie-talkie, made a report, and then said: "You have an old saying in Huaxia, 'In troubled times, use heavy codes.' This saying is excellent and very applicable to Fusang right now."

"You've learned our language quite well," Chen Yu said. "You know quite a lot, too."

"There is another saying: 'Know yourself and know your enemy.' Huaxia has a cultural heritage spanning thousands of years, so there are many things that are worth us learning from you." Chuan Naizi smiled slightly: "I don't find it embarrassing at all to learn from your culture to improve our own cultivation."

"Fine, you are much more honest than the Bangzi," Chen Yu nodded and said. "At least you dare to admit that you learned things from us. The Bangzi are something else; they learn but won't admit it, and they even try to claim those things as their own. They are quite a bizarre people."

"At least we dare to act and take responsibility, but the Bangzi cannot do that," Chuan Naizi said.

As they spoke, several Detectives arrived at the scene and saw the people lying in a pool of blood. The lead Detective couldn't help but be shocked: "Officer Chuan Naizi, what happened here? What is going on with these people?"

"Robbery, attempted assault, and they threatened a police officer in the line of duty, so I sent them on their way. Take them away and file a report on this matter," Chuan Naizi instructed. "If any problems arise, just come find me."

"Very well, Miss Chuan Naizi, I understand." The Detective nodded slightly and then signaled his subordinates to begin disposing of the bodies.

Chen Yu vaguely heard a mutter: This is the third time this week she has shot someone dead directly; what is wrong with Officer Chuan Naizi?

"Shh, keep your voice down. This is a special period; to prevent riots in some places, we have to kill one to warn a hundred."

The Detectives whispered to each other while handling the bodies, feeling that Chuan Naizi's recent abnormal behavior was somewhat unbelievable.

Chuan Naizi had become accustomed to such talk, and her hostility had indeed been very heavy these past few days; she would draw her gun at the slightest disagreement.

Although it was somewhat extreme, it had to be said that this was the best way to shock these people at the moment.

"In troubled times, use heavy codes"—this saying was absolutely correct. The current world was a troubled one, so one had to use such methods to deal with them.

"Chen Yu, let's go to the village. The port area is a disaster zone; we have already sent people to Chinatown to purchase the traditional Chinese medicines you wrote down," Chuan Naizi said.

"Alright, let's go." Chen Yu nodded, got into a car with Chuan Naizi, and drove directly to the village most severely affected around the port.

"The situation in Huayong Village is the worst; the surrounding area is sealed off, and no one can enter or leave." Chuan Naizi got out of the car, looked at the Detectives guarding the perimeter, and said to Chen Yu: "I don't know what the situation is like inside now."

"Let's go, we'll go in and see." Chen Yu frowned; he could tell that the death energy here was too heavy, and he feared that many people had died inside.

"Have you already seen what the situation is like inside?" Seeing Chen Yu's expression, Chuan Naizi seemed to understand something.

Chen Yu looked up at the sky and saw that a wisp of black energy was vaguely visible in the surroundings.

He hesitated for a moment, then raised two fingers of his right hand, and with Primordial Qi surging, he swept them across Chuan Naizi's eyes.

In an instant, Chuan Naizi opened her Heavenly Eye. She looked at the top of the village in astonishment, seeing a faint wisp of black energy floating above.

Much of the black energy had formed cloud-like masses, and these clustered masses of black energy seemed to have developed a consciousness of their own.

They hovered incessantly above the village, seemingly wanting to leave, yet they were bound by an invisible force.

They were angry, emitting silent roars, and they were also deeply resentful.

"These, these people..." Chuan Naizi couldn't help but let out a cry of alarm.

"Departed souls. No need to ask further; many people must have died in here. These people died unnatural deaths, so they cannot escape the shackles of your Fusang Domain Boundary's power, and thus they can only hover in this place," Chen Yu said indifferently.

Chuan Naizi stopped talking. From this, she could tell that the situation inside must be tragic. Moreover, this place was currently sealed off by Yamamoto Masao, and no one was allowed in or out; the situation inside could be imagined.

"Let's go, let's go in and take a look, but you must prepare yourself mentally. You probably won't be able to adapt to the situation here," Chen Yu said.

"I am a Detective; I have seen all kinds of scenes. Beheading cases, dismemberment cases—these are all minor scenes." Chuan Naizi's tone was clearly unconvinced.

"It's not those kinds of situations." Chen Yu shook his head helplessly: "Alright then, you must hold yourself together when you go in; it might be more miserable than you imagine."

"Let's go." Chuan Naizi gritted her teeth and walked in with Chen Yu.

As soon as they entered the village, a thick, pungent odor rushed toward them, and Chuan Naizi's face changed instantly.

As an experienced police officer, she could smell that this was the odor of rotting corpses mixed with the smell of charred bodies.

She had solved a corpse-burning case before, so she was very sensitive to these mixed odors. How had this place become like this?

Facing a small two-story house, Chuan Naizi stopped. She gritted her teeth, stepped forward, and knocked on the door: "Is anyone there?"
