Chapter 1779: Small Town

~7 min read 1,208 words

The scenery of this small town is quite nice; it would be better to stay here for a night and continue the journey the next day.

"Hello, sir, would you like to stay at our inn?" Just then, a girl in very charming attire bowed deeply to Chen Yu, revealing a charming smile.

"That's right," Chen Yu nodded.

"Are you from Huaxia?" As soon as Chen Yu spoke, the other party recognized it. She switched to fluent Huaxia language and said, "Sir, why not come and take a look at my home? My home is a guesthouse, right by the sea, and the environment is very good."

Seeing her expectant expression, Chen Yu nodded slowly. The girl jumped up happily and then said, "Sir, do you have any luggage? My home is not far from here; I can help you."

"No, thank you. Let's go," Chen Yu said.

"Very well, sir, please." The girl bowed deeply, then smiled sweetly and led the way.

"My name is Gong Meizi; you can just call me Meizi. What is your surname, sir?" The girl's smile was very healing.

"Chen Yu," Chen Yu smiled and said, "You have a very sweet smile."

"Thank you for the compliment." Meizi seemed very happy to be praised: "Are you a traveler from afar?"

"You could say that, just looking around," Chen Yu said, "The scenery in your place is very beautiful."

"Yes, the scenery is beautiful, but sir, it is best not to go out after midnight," Meizi said.

"Why?"

"Because behind us is the Snow Mountain. It is said that there is a Snow Woman on the mountain, and the rule she set is that one cannot go out after midnight, otherwise one will be caught and taken to the Snow Mountain," Meizi said.

"Snow Woman?" Chen Yu was a bit surprised: "That legendary monster?"

"Yes, she goes out late and returns early, and she is very beautiful. She uses her appearance to bewitch men and finally drags them away," Meizi said cautiously: "We call her Snow Lady here. You must not call her a monster directly, or she will hear you."

"Haha, what if she hears me?" Chen Yu smiled slightly: "Could it be that she can run to my house in the middle of the night and drag me away?"

"That wouldn't happen," Meizi shook her head and smiled: "This is just a legend, but there is no nightlife in our small town. Before midnight, everyone consciously goes home to sleep."

"So, actually, no one here has ever seen the Snow Woman, right?" Chen Yu asked.

"Yes, but... you really cannot go to the Snow Mountain side, because people who go to that place disappear inexplicably, and it is indeed very dangerous there," Meizi hesitated and said.

"Why do people disappear at the Snow Mountain? Is there any danger there?" Chen Yu asked.

"I don't know, but some say it is the Snow Woman's territory and cannot be intruded upon casually. If you enter there, you have to pay a price," Meizi said.

"Alright, I understand. I won't run around," Chen Yu smiled: "I will follow your rules here."

"Thank you, sir. You are truly a good person." Meizi bowed to Chen Yu again.

"There is nothing to thank me for. Respecting your local customs and habits is something we should do anyway," Chen Yu smiled slightly.

"No, some guests just don't understand, especially guests from out of town. They feel that our rules here are too many," Meizi shook her head.

Soon, Meizi brought Chen Yu to a guesthouse with a very nice style.

The decoration style of this place was very warm: a wooden cabin, flowers and plants planted in the courtyard, and an endless ocean behind the cabin.

"Sir, please..." Meizi knelt on the ground and took out a pair of slippers.

"Thank you, please get up, I'll do it myself." Seeing that she was about to change the shoes for him, Chen Yu was somewhat dumbfounded.

He was not used to this kind of service; after all, the person kneeling before him was a girl.

"You are welcome, sir. These are all things we should do," Meizi smiled faintly.

"Really, no need. Please get up quickly," Chen Yu said hurriedly: "I am not very used to this."

"Alright then, sir, please." Watching Chen Yu put on the shoes, Meizi nodded slightly and then stood up.

Chen Yu changed his shoes and went inside.

Outside his bedroom, there was a small pavilion where one could get a good view of the sea.

Just then, a girl of about fourteen or fifteen years old walked out, leaning on a cane.

The girl's face was very delicate, but her eyes were listless; she must be blind.

"Youzi, why did you come out?" Meizi hurriedly went up to support the girl.

"Sister, has a guest arrived at home?" Youzi asked.

"Yes, Youzi, a guest from Huaxia, a very good person." Meizi smiled and said to Chen Yu: "This is my younger sister, Youzi. Her eyes are a bit inconvenient."

"I can see that," Chen Yu nodded, then he stared at Youzi's eyes and said: "Her eyes are very beautiful."

"Thank you, sir," Youzi smiled sweetly: "You are the first person to praise my eyes as beautiful."

"Both you sisters have very pure hearts," Chen Yu smiled and said: "Talking to you makes me feel very calm."

"Is that so? Thank you for the compliment, sir. I will go prepare dinner for you. I know some Huaxia dishes," Meizi smiled.

"Have you been to Huaxia?" Chen Yu asked.

"Yes, I took my sister to Huaxia to seek medical treatment. It is said that Traditional Chinese Medicine there can cure her eyes, but I did not find that practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine," Meizi said with some regret.

"Her eyes have been blind for more than ten years, right?" Chen Yu glanced at Youzi.

"Yes, after a fall, she could never see again," Meizi sighed slightly. She stroked Youzi's head and said gloomily: "It's all my fault; I didn't take good care of her."

"Actually, these things are not your fault. By the way, where are your parents?" Chen Yu asked.

"They passed away. They have been gone for a long time. We two sisters grew up together," Meizi smiled: "It was a long time ago; the impression of them is actually already blurred."

"You are very strong," Chen Yu looked at her and said: "And your attitude toward life is also very good."

"Thank you. No matter what happens, life must go on," Meizi smiled slightly: "So we must live happily."

"I am also a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I might be able to help with your sister's situation," Chen Yu said.

"Really?" Meizi looked at Chen Yu, both surprised and delighted: "Do you really know Traditional Chinese Medicine? Do you really have a way for my sister's eyes?"

"I can try; it shouldn't be a big problem," Chen Yu smiled: "And if I have no way, then no one in this world has a way."

"Ah? Then your medical skills must be very brilliant." Meizi looked at Chen Yu in surprise; she did not expect her luck to be so good.
