Chapter 1852: Is This Holy Water?
"Reveal yourself, all you heretics." Auben roared, preparing to fling the Holy Water.
But just at this moment, his expression suddenly stiffened, and his body inexplicably became uncontrollable.
His hands trembled incessantly; the Holy Water that was meant to be sprinkled was instead gripped tightly in his hand.
Then, under the watchful eyes of everyone, he actually brought the bottle to his lips and drank it all in one gulp.
Auben's eyes widened, his expression turning bizarre.
This Holy Water had been imbued with magic; although it wasn't lethal, the taste was absolutely unbearable, and he felt as if his throat were instantly burning like fire.
He clutched his throat and retched, the burning sensation causing him agony.
"Does it taste good? Do you usually hold your Holy Water in your mouth and then spray it out?" Chen Yu leaned in close to Auben and said with a chuckle, "Why were you so careless as to swallow the Holy Water directly? Will your Lord be angry?"
"What... did you do to me?" Auben gritted his teeth as he looked at Chen Yu.
It was impossible for him to make such a mistake, but just now he had been unable to control his own actions, as if someone were controlling his consciousness, forcing him to drink the water.
"How could I possibly do anything to you? I am merely an ordinary person; your behavior is quite incomprehensible to me. Isn't Holy Water meant for sprinkling?" The smile on Chen Yu's face deepened.
"Do you still want to verify it now? If you aren't going to verify it, I'm leaving," Chen Yu asked.
Auben's complexion grew increasingly ugly. He wanted to verify it, but the other party's strength was evident; if he continued to be forceful, he would only be the one to lose face and suffer.
"Your actions will be condemned by God." Auben straightened his body and stared at Chen Yu with a warning gaze.
"Save it. I don't believe in your damn Lord either," Chen Yu said. "If he were truly going to condemn me, he wouldn't have waited until today."
"You dare..." Auben was furious. He instinctively straightened his body, wanting to berate Chen Yu, but the other party's strength was unfathomable. As he opened his mouth, Chen Yu's cold gaze swept over him.
With just this one look, the words he intended to say were forced back down. He let out a long sigh and waved his hand, saying, "You may go."
"Eve, let's go." Chen Yu did not want to entangle himself with him further. He glanced at the guy and, taking Eve with him, prepared to leave.
"A heretic is always a heretic. Though you may hide for a moment, you will ultimately not escape God's judgment."
As he passed Auben, he suddenly raised his head, and a trace of milky-white light surged from his eyes.
Eve let out a muffled groan and stumbled back a few steps.
That strand of Holy Light had ultimately managed to hurt her. Today, when she was at a loss, Chen Yu pulled her in time and blocked her behind him.
At the same time, the light was severed. Eve breathed a slow sigh of relief, hiding behind Chen Yu, not daring to show her head.
The radiance in Auben's eyes slowly faded. He turned his head away, avoiding direct eye contact with Chen Yu.
Even as proud as a Pope, when he came into contact with Chen Yu's gaze, he still felt a sense of trepidation.
In his view, the gaze of the man before him was not something a human could emit; that soul-captivating feeling made him afraid to look directly.
"Pope, good methods. I've seen them." Chen Yu left behind these words and took Eve away.
"No one can rescue any heretic from before the Pope's eyes, and you are no exception." Auben gave Chen Yu a warning.
"Others perhaps cannot, but I certainly can, because I have never been bound by any rules." Chen Yu smiled slightly before leaving.
"Respected Lord Auben, we are all human here. You just verified it yourself; would you like to search again?" Seeing Chen Yu leave, Jinsang's tone became sarcastic.
"We are merely business people. We cannot afford to be labeled as heretics by you. Your Pope is so overbearing; if there really were any Dark Creatures, they wouldn't just inexplicably run here, would they?"
Auben's face looked terrible. He snorted, flicked his sleeve heavily, and left the place.
District 55 in the night appeared exceptionally lively.
People gathered in twos and threes, and from time to time, one could hear the sounds of insults and fighting from the nearby grass.
"Thank you for what happened tonight," Eve said, still feeling a lingering fear. "The Pope's people know I have been tainted, and they want to use that to blackmail my father into following their orders."
"That is why they have been trying every possible way to find evidence that I am of the Blood Clan. If they once confirm I am of the Blood Clan, they will burn me to death under the pretext of a religious dispute. If my father wants to save me, he must listen to them."
"This group of people from the Pope, aren't they being a bit too despicable?" Chen Yu's brows locked slightly. "What is the reason for them doing this?"
"The Pope has actually been competing for territory with the local authorities. If my father listens to them, their influence will inevitably increase greatly." Eve lowered her head. "This is also why my father would rather build an Ancient Castle at home than let me go out."
"Understood. That person today was aiming for you, right?" Chen Yu asked.
"It's highly likely. He said his name was Auben, but I didn't know him before," Eve said. "Judging by his strength, he should be a leader. I was targeted after I appeared at the Vampire Bar."
"It seems you will have to be careful from now on," Chen Yu said. "You cannot come to the Vampire Bar often. If you really want to come, call me to go with you. This is no joke."
"Will you guard me like my Prince Charming?" Eve smiled slightly.
"I will," Chen Yu said earnestly. "At least I will ensure you won't be harmed. And I keep my word; one day, I will find that Prince, kill him, and break your Curse."
"Thank you. With those words from you, I feel very safe." Eve nodded.
Suddenly, with a crash, a wine bottle smashed in front of the two, giving Eve a fright.
Her pupils flashed with a dark hue; this was an instinctive self-protection when startled.
Following the bottle hitting the ground, several drunken revelers surrounded them.
A non-mainstream man with a nose ring, holding two delinquent girls, laughed loudly, spraying alcohol breath and speaking words that were hard to understand.
"What are they saying?" Chen Yu looked confused. Although he could communicate with consciousness, he still couldn't understand this guy's gibberish.
"Nothing, just two guys who drank too much and don't know who they are anymore." Eve smiled. "Don't mind them, let's go."
