Chapter 2001: You Have Been Played
However, a gunshot rang out; the sniper hidden in the shadows had made their move.
Boom... With a single shot from the anti-materiel heavy sniper rifle, flesh and blood flew from Bageer's body.
His body fell heavily to the ground, the immense impact force nearly cutting him in half at the waist.
Immediately following were several more booming shots, and the few people closest to Bageer were dealt with by thunderous means.
A second flare rose once more, and a huge voice rang out from a loudspeaker: "Drop your weapons and put your hands on your heads. This is the second warning. When the third flare rises, it will be the beginning of a massacre."
Clatter, clatter—everyone threw the guns in their hands away without hesitation, then put their hands on their heads and squatted on the ground.
The hot-bloodedness this group of people had just felt had now basically vanished without a trace.
Are you kidding? Under this kind of formation, is there still any need to resist? As long as someone has a slightly normal brain, they wouldn't try to be a hero right now, would they?
Clatter, the door was opened, and a group of people came out from inside and rounded everyone up.
Ming Lun silently put down the gun in his hand; he was clear that the situation was lost for him now, and even if he resisted, it would have no meaning.
He was taken back into the Dungeon, and this time, it was An'er who was looking for him.
That Warden, who had previously helped Ming Lun open the door, stood quietly to one side.
Ming Lun looked at that Warden; he was the one who, that night, had sworn to follow him in a big undertaking to overthrow An'er just to seek a transfer out of the Prison.
"Lord Ming Lun, is there something you wish to say to me?" The Warden smiled slightly; in fact, he knew what Ming Lun was going to say.
"Are you one of An'er's people?" Ming Lun finally understood now.
This Warden's previous pledge of allegiance was fake from the start; he was merely a person sent by An'er to test him.
And at that time, his heart was actually wavering; if this Warden hadn't appeared, perhaps he wouldn't have done such a thing in a moment of impulse.
But unfortunately, it was too late to say anything now; An'er had his psychology gripped tight, making him willingly jump into a pit, and the kind where he would crash headfirst into it and not come back out.
"Understood, everything is understood." Ming Lun nodded slowly, and he laughed miserably: "No wonder; he has insight into everything I have."
"So he had arranged all sorts of people around me. This time, my loss is truly not unjust at all."
"But you..." Ming Lun stared at the Warden with hatred: "Why are you so loyal to him? Are you willing to stay in this dark, gloomy, and damp place where the sun never shines for your whole life?"
"I am willing." The Warden spread his hands: "Lord An'er's arrangements are the best."
"I have post-traumatic stress disorder and cannot adapt to life outside at all, so I can only stay here, because only by staying with the prisoners can I be slightly normal."
"Ming Lun, your defeat today really cannot be blamed on anyone." The Warden said: "Because you never figured out one fact, which is that you don't know your own status in the hearts of many people."
"What status do I have in your hearts, exactly?" Ming Lun was very curious about this.
Before this, he had always thought that his status among An'er's subordinates was extremely high.
Because he was young, had drive, and gave away money and women in large quantities.
He felt that he could win people over this way, but now it seemed the facts were not like that at all.
"A very low status. As a person who is calculating, you don't seem to understand that everyone is very repulsed by people like you." The Warden said: "Because after you use a person up, you can discard and cast them aside at any time."
"Compared to the things you gave, if we followed you, we would need to pay a greater price, so we are loyal to Lord An'er because he will not abandon us."
"So that's how it is? So this is the image I have in your hearts?" Ming Lun nodded; he seemed to know where he had failed.
"Yes, Lord Ming Lun. Now that it has reached this point, can you tell the truth?" The Warden smiled.
"What truth do you want to hear?" Ming Lun raised his head and glanced at the Warden.
"I want to know, if you had really succeeded, what would happen to me? Would you reward me according to my merits and give me everything I wanted, or would you use me and then discard me, casting me aside?"
"Want to hear the truth?" Ming Lun raised an eyebrow.
"Of course, I want to hear the truth. I want to know if my actions were wrong." The Warden smiled slightly.
"The truth is, if you had really followed me, after the matter was accomplished, I would have abandoned you without hesitation." Ming Lun said: "Because An'er is very good to you; you have followed him for more than ten years."
"If you betrayed him to follow me, then I wouldn't guarantee whether you would betray me for someone else in the future."
"Alright, I understand. It seems my choice was not wrong." The Warden nodded slowly.
"Your choice was not wrong, and facts have always been cruel." Ming Lun shook his head and said: "But saying anything now has no meaning, because I am a loser, a loser through and through."
"You have not failed; at least, you are liberated." The Warden bowed slightly, then made a cross on his chest: "The Lord will bless you to enter Heaven, and you will no longer have to suffer in this hellish world."
Just at this moment, An'er walked over, and the Warden bowed slightly to An'er.
"Shisen, well done." An'er nodded slightly at him; he was very satisfied with the scene the Warden had performed.
"I am willing to risk everything to serve you, my Lord." The Warden said with a slight smile: "Lord An'er, I will wait on the side; if you have any needs, you can contact me at any time."
"Good, thank you for your hard work." An'er patted his shoulder, then stepped into the Prison.
"An'er, you won." Ming Lun sighed, and he sat down.
"Do you really think I wanted to win this?" An'er looked at him: "Ming Lun, in fact, all along, I have held great expectations for you."
"Oh, is that so? Is this your so-called expectation for me? You tried every way to test me, and in the end, you cast me into the abyss." Ming Lun sneered: "Don't forget, you are my father."
"Although there is no blood relationship between us, I also feel that we shouldn't have reached this point, right?"
"Yes, we shouldn't have reached this point, but you pressed me step by step and forced me to this point." An'er looked at him and said: "Don't you still think that you have no fault at all, even now?"
"My greatest mistake was coming out of the slums and becoming your adopted son." Ming Lun said coldly: "You gave me everything, and then you snatched it all away from my hands by force."
