Chapter 277: The Black-Cab Driver
"That's right, get out of the car," the driver said in a muffled voice.
"But I haven't reached my destination yet. Did you make a mistake?" Chen Yu asked, looking up with some confusion.
"Heh, the destination is too far. I'm not driving anymore; I'm going home," the driver sneered. "Go back yourself."
"Understood. Double the fare, let's go." Chen Yu was speechless; he had run into a black-cab driver.
"Not enough, get out," the driver said.
"Brother, just say how much you want. We're in the middle of nowhere; where do you expect me to hail a cab?" Chen Yu frowned.
"Five thousand yuan to take you back. Cash. Pay first." The driver had the air of someone who had him cornered.
"Five thousand? Fine. I don't have cash, let's do a transfer," Chen Yu said indifferently.
"Fine." The driver pulled out a QR code for Chen Yu to scan. Chen Yu didn't want to stir up trouble, so he scanned it directly.
But after scanning the QR code, the driver still refused to drive. He pulled out the key and sat in the driver's seat, not moving an inch.
"Driver, the money is paid. It's time to go," Chen Yu asked.
"Paying so readily, heh, looks like a big spender who doesn't care about money. Bring another ten thousand yuan over," the driver sneered.
"You're being a bit excessive now," Chen Yu said with a smile. "Driver, I really don't advise you to earn ill-gotten gains, because even if you earn them, you might not have the Life to spend them."
"Heh, I've got you pegged today. When I make money, I never care if it's earned righteously or not," the driver sneered. "See outside? This is a public cemetery, and over there is a mass grave."
"It's not far from the city, just a few dozen kilometers. Let me give you a kind reminder: you won't be able to hail a cab in this place," the driver said with a chuckle.
"Hmm, so what? What do you want?" Chen Yu asked.
"So, however much money I ask for, you pay. Otherwise, you walk back. But let me warn you, this place isn't very clean; both sides are full of dead people," the driver sneered.
"Are you sure I won't get out of the car?" Chen Yu smiled.
"That's right, I'm sure you don't dare to get out of the car now. Why don't you get out and let me see?" the driver sneered.
"Alright then, I won't take the car. You can wait here properly," Chen Yu sneered, turned, and got out of the car.
"You—you actually dare to leave?" The driver was stunned. He hadn't expected Chen Yu to actually get out of the car.
Chen Yu got out, turned around, and vanished without a trace. The driver cursed, "What an idiot. This place has the heaviest Yin energy; if you don't take the car, just wait to see a ghost."
He started the car to leave, but suddenly, a chill swept over, and the driver couldn't help but shiver involuntarily.
And after the chill, a person suddenly appeared in the passenger seat. This person was none other than A Fu, though his clothes had been changed to modern attire.
"What are you doing? Don't you know that appearing without a sound will scare someone to death?" the driver asked in a rage.
"Drive." A Fu sat bolt upright, his tone somewhat eerie, which gave the driver a huge fright.
"Where to?" the driver asked irritably. He was still muttering to himself, wondering how someone could be in this place so late.
"The funeral home." A Fu turned his head and smiled slightly.
"I'm not going to that place." The driver couldn't help but shiver again.
"Ten thousand." A Fu directly took out a stack of money and placed it on the dashboard.
"Ten thousand?" The driver's eyes lit up. "Add another ten thousand and I'll go."
"Add another twenty thousand. Drive immediately, and I'll give you another twenty thousand when we arrive." A Fu grinned.
"Alright, let's go." The driver was overjoyed. He was in the black-cab business anyway; this was a case of not opening for business for three years, but one job feeding him for three years. Although the funeral home was in the opposite direction and he'd heard that place wasn't very clean, it was worth it for this much money.
"Friend, why are you going to the funeral home so late?" the driver asked.
"They didn't do my makeup right, so I'm going to find them," A Fu replied eerily.
"They only put makeup on the dead, you..." The driver sneered, but suddenly he stopped abruptly, because he realized that A Fu had somehow changed into a Republic-era outfit.
And the hat he was wearing was that old-fashioned burial hat from long ago. The driver was shocked: "Who—who—who are you?"
"Human? Did I ever say I was human?" A Fu grinned. Suddenly, his neck made a cracking sound and was twisted forcibly to the back of his head.
At the same time, his originally handsome face became a bloody mess, and the inside of the car turned a ghastly green.
"Ah..." The driver screamed in terror. In his desperation, he slammed his foot on the accelerator, but the car engine roared violently without moving an inch forward.
"Help, help!" The driver used all his might to open the door, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get the door open.
"Go on, why open the door? Why aren't you driving?" The terrifying, eerie face twisted to the back of A Fu's neck smiled strangely.
"Big brother, please let me go. I have no grudge against you, please let me go," the driver cried with a mournful face.
"Drive," A Fu said sinisterly. "You've taken the money, why aren't you going?"
"I'm going, I'm going, but I can't move," the driver cried, frantically stomping on the accelerator.
Suddenly, with a loud boom, the car moved. Because he had stomped on the accelerator with too much force, the car surged forward with a buzz and slammed heavily into a large tree in front.
Crash! The glass shattered, the airbag deployed, and the driver squeezed his way out and ran for his life.
He didn't know how long he had been running. Seeing some light ahead, he collapsed to the ground. When he came to his senses, he realized he was in a pile of mass graves.
The so-called light came from some burning incense and candles. An old woman was poking at the fire and muttering, "I'm old, no one is willing to come see me, and no one burns any money for me."
"Who—who are you?" The driver stood up with a start and asked tremblingly.
"Who am I?" The old woman turned her head abruptly, revealing a face as thin and dry as tree bark. The features on her face were a mess; *plop*, an eyeball fell to the ground.
"Ghost!" The driver shrieked hysterically. He jumped up and fled in a panic in the other direction.
But along the way, he encountered countless people dressed in white with pale faces lying on both sides. He ran forward, screaming all the way, but the further he ran, the more unclean things there were.
Finally, he slammed into a tree and fainted.
It wasn't until the next morning that he woke up. Only then did he realize he hadn't moved from the spot of the car accident at all.
The front of his car was deeply embedded in the tree, and the engine was likely totaled. He suddenly remembered the money A Fu had given him. He mustered his courage, ran into the car, grabbed the money from yesterday, and was stunned.
Where was this money? It was a thick stack of Yin Money, and it was all brand new.
