Chapter 306: Don't Walk on Night Roads
"You lunatic." Bai Jingxian chased after Ning Ruoxue in anger, the two of them laughing so hard they were swaying like flowers, drawing more than a few lingering gazes from men along the way.
Bai Jingxian had just returned to the country and was still suffering from jet lag; she chatted with Ning Ruoxue until very late before heading back.
The place she was staying temporarily was in the suburbs; at eleven o'clock at night, she ran and hurried to catch the last bus. Aside from her, there were only a few people on the bus. She plugged in her earphones and listened to music.
Suddenly, someone tapped her on the shoulder, and a chilling aura wafted over. She couldn't help but shiver, and she hurriedly took off her earphones to look back.
She saw an old woman who had just boarded the bus holding a large banknote, saying with a blank expression, "Young lady, help me change this for some small change; I don't have any change for the fare."
"No need, ma'am, I'll just pay it for you." Bai Jingxian grabbed her bag, took out some change, and dropped it into the box.
"You really are a good person, young lady, but I, an old woman, don't take advantage of others. Help me change this money." The old woman grinned, revealing a few sparse teeth.
"Really, there's no need, ma'am," Bai Jingxian said with a smile.
"No, if you do this, I won't be able to sleep tonight. You should still help me change it," the old woman said with a chuckle.
Bai Jingxian felt helpless and had no choice but to reach out to take the large banknote. Having just returned from abroad, she wasn't used to mobile payments and had prepared some change in her bag.
Suddenly, a hand reached out and gripped Bai Jingxian's hand: "Ma'am, it's just a little money, there's really no need."
Bai Jingxian looked up and saw that Chen Yu had boarded the bus at some point. He held Bai Jingxian's hand, staring fixedly at the old woman.
"Young man, my grandmother has lived to be over a hundred years old; her eyes are sharp and her ears are keen, and she is in very good health." The old woman stared fixedly at Chen Yu: "She has lived this long for no other reason than that she never meddles in other people's business."
"Ma'am, you're at such an advanced age, stop causing trouble here." Chen Yu said, turning his head to glance at Bai Jingxian, and said viciously: "Every time we argue you run away from home, blocking my calls and WeChat. If you do this again, I'm breaking up with you."
"Chen Yu, what are you saying? Are you crazy?" Bai Jingxian was incredulous. What did Chen Yu mean by this?
"If you want to live together, let's live together properly. If you don't want to, let's break up right now. Come with me." Chen Yu said, grabbing Bai Jingxian's hand and shouting at the driver: "Stop the bus."
Screech—the bus came to a steady stop. Chen Yu, without a word of explanation, grabbed Bai Jingxian and got off the bus.
"Hey, what are you doing? I'm not even close with you. Help! I don't know her!" Bai Jingxian was shocked. She had only met Chen Yu once and they were definitely not close. This guy was demanding she get off in the middle of nowhere; who knew what he was up to?
"Friend, do you know her?" There was a young couple on the bus, and the man stood up with a sense of justice.
"I advise you not to meddle in other people's business," Chen Yu said, turning his head.
"Forget it, don't meddle," the woman hurriedly pulled on the man and said in a low voice.
"No way, this young lady doesn't even know him. Who knows if he's a bad guy?" The man shouted: "Kid, I'm a boxing coach. Who exactly are you to her?"
"I don't know him at all." Bai Jingxian tried hard to remain calm: "I don't know what he wants to do either."
"Don't know me? Bai Jingxian, let's have our arguments, but don't be like this every time you get angry. Get off the bus with me." Chen Yu shouted.
"Young lady, get off the bus with him. It's fine, I'm here. I don't believe he can do anything to you." The man stood up, pulled his girlfriend along, and shouted at Chen Yu: "Kid, if you have something to say, say it off the bus. Don't delay the other passengers."
Several people got off the bus, the bus doors slowly closed, and then it drove away. When Bai Jingxian looked back, she saw the old woman's face pressed tightly against the bus window; her face was filled with a sinister, terrifying aura.
Bai Jingxian felt a jolt. For some reason, she suddenly felt that getting off the bus was the right thing to do.
"You surnamed Chen, what exactly are you trying to do? Do you believe I'll call Ruoxue right now?" Bai Jingxian stared coldly at Chen Yu.
With people around, she wasn't too afraid. Besides, she was a forensic doctor by trade; as long as Chen Yu dared to do anything untoward, she could instantly release the chemical gas in her bracelet to sedate him.
"Don't bother calling, lest she worry. Do you know that I just saved you all?" Chen Yu watched the bus drive away and finally let out a sigh of relief. He casually plucked a few leaves from a pomelo tree nearby, pinched a Dao Formula with his right hand, and handed them to the group.
"Place them over your eyes, then look at that bus," Chen Yu said indifferently.
Bai Jingxian took the pomelo leaves, glared at Chen Yu, then placed them over her eyes and looked at the bus that had driven away.
At this look, she couldn't help but be shocked. The bus had somehow turned into a Spirit Hearse. There was no one on the bus, and there was no one in the driver's seat. The vehicle was just moving forward eerily like that, and a moment later, it disappeared.
Pomelo leaves could open the Heavenly Eye, allowing her to see things she couldn't normally see. She looked at the people beside her and saw that there was a ball of fire on each of their shoulders and the back of their heads.
"Hey, why can I see fire? Everyone else has three balls, why do you only have two on you?" the man asked in surprise.
Bai Jingxian turned her head to look and saw that there was no flame on her right shoulder. She could only see the fire on her left shoulder, and this ball of fire was flickering, seemingly about to go out at any moment.
"Did that old woman pat you on this shoulder?" Chen Yu asked.
"Yes, what is going on?" Bai Jingxian, who had never been superstitious, was also a bit bewildered this time.
"I told you before, don't walk on night roads, otherwise you'll see ghosts. You didn't believe me. Now look at where this is—is this the road to your home?" Chen Yu asked again.
"Where is this? This isn't Huaxi Station," the girl exclaimed.
The three of them realized then that they were in the middle of the wilderness. A few kilometers ahead of this place was the Graveyard. There were no buses running here at night at all. Where was that Spirit Hearse from earlier planning to take them?
Thinking of what they had just encountered, Bai Jingxian broke out in a cold sweat.
"Do you want this thing or not?" Chen Yu took out the Brocade Pouch again: "If it weren't for the fact that you are Ruoxue's friend, I wouldn't be staying up in the middle of the night to come to this place and argue with ghosts for you."
"I want it, thank you." Bai Jingxian didn't care about superstition anymore. She hurriedly took the Brocade Pouch from Chen Yu's hand. After receiving it, she felt a warmth in her palm, and a surge of masculine Spirit spread through her entire body.
"And you two, you're lucky today too. I'll give you two an Amulet each. Your birth dates are yin-aligned, so you are naturally prone to encountering unclean things. Don't go to remote places at night in the future." Chen Yu took out two more Amulets and gave them to the couple.
